Removed Art. 370, BJP will now win 370 seats

The ambitious goal set by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is to win 370 seats in the Lok Sabha by 2024, which is 67 seats more than they did in 2019. This will enable it to surpass the 400 mark, another ambitious goal for its National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The BJP has won 282 and 303 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019, respectively.

The objective of 370 has been associated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the repeal of Article 370 in the former state of J&K. Not long after seizing power again in August 2019, the Modi administration removed Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted the former state special status.

“370 is not just a number for the BJP,” Modi declared in February, speaking to a gathering of the party’s national office-bearers. It represents a deep emotion. In order to maintain the unity and integrity of our country, Mookerjee offered the ultimate sacrifice for the repeal of Article 370. The BJP ought to win 370 seats as a fitting homage to him.”

Though the NDA is expected to win the polls handily, the figure highlights the BJP’s growing aspirations as well as a cunning goal-setting tactic when the cadre gets complacent. But the party may find it difficult to win 67 more seats.

How arithmetic in the chairs is done
The BJP faces a difficult task in trying to win 370 seats, even though most pundits concur that the party is quite likely to return to power. In states where it won all the seats in 2019, it would not only have to make sure that it replicates that success, but also maintain its advantage in states where it won more than half the seats, maximize its gains in areas where it performed below expectations, and secure seats in places where it came up empty.

Case against BJP leader after chaos at Bengal police station.

Agnimitra Paul, a West Bengal BJP leader, and other party employees are the targets of a formal complaint (FIR) for causing disturbance at a police station when they attempted to submit a complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The biggest flop actor in India gave up acting after multiple setbacks and turned to business, owns a private airplane, and has a net worth of…

According to police sources, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul and 14 other employees are the targets of a First Information Report (FIR) for causing mayhem at a police station in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal. Paul had gone to the police station to register a complaint against Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister.

Paul and the BJP representatives went to the district’s Kotwali police station to complain to Banerjee, claiming that she had made an offensive comment about Ram Navami at a gathering in north Bengal, according to police sources.

But after the police declined to file a formal complaint against Banerjee, Paul and the BJP employees began to demonstrate in front of the police station.

During the demonstration, Paul secured the police station’s gate.

Banerjee said earlier on Wednesday that there were schemes afoot to instigate unrest in the state on Ram Navami.

A few hours later, stones were thrown from rooftops in Murshidabad’s Shaktipur neighborhood at the Ram Navami procession, injuring about twenty people.

In a letter to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari requested that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) look into the altercations that occurred during a Ram Navami parade in Murshidabad.

Ram Navami: Bengal police on ‘high alert’ ahead of Hindu Jagran Manch’s 5,000 religious processions

Ram Navami celebrations in Bengal have become a political battleground in recent years with rallies escalating into major political face-offs and communal riots.

Ahead of the state’s Ram Navami celebrations, has reported that a number of police stations in West Bengal are on high alert in an effort to prevent any communal unrest. In all of the state’s districts, the Hindu Jagran Manch is said to organize over 5,000 religious processions at the ward or panchayat level. The group, which is connected to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has also organized large-scale processions in Burrabazar, Kolkata, and Barasat, Siliguri.

The publication said that the district administrations of Hooghly, Howrah, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, Asansol, and Barrackpore—which have previously seen intercommunal strife during the Ram Navami celebration—are also on guard.

According to the authorities, anyone caught disobeying the legislation would face harsh consequences.

“We have not forgotten”: The Supreme Court’s remarks regarding the “paper ballot”.

The Supreme Court has been contacted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and other parties in an attempt to cross-verify the votes cast via VVPAT.

During its Tuesday hearing on a number of petitions seeking cross-verification of votes cast using Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), the Supreme Court raised concerns about returning to paper ballots for general election voting.

Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan made three recommendations to increase voting transparency during his appearance on behalf of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), one of which was to go back to paper ballots. Bhushan offered two further options: either make the VVPAT glass transparent or give voters the slip that the VVPAT generates to place in the voting box.

A paper slip has been produced by a VVPAT equipment and is shown to the voter on a screen for approximately seven seconds before being placed inside a sealed drop box.

Bhushan stated, “We can go back to paper ballots.” Giving the voters in question a VVPAT slip is an additional choice. If not, the slips fall into the machine, from where they can be taken by the voter and placed in the voting box. Subsequently, the original design of the VVPAT was altered. Originally intended to be transparent glass, it is now made of black opaque mirror glass that is only visible during brief periods of light.

In answer, Judge Sanjiv Khanna said, “We are in our 60s.” You may have forgotten, but we all know what occurred when there were ballot papers.

One of the petitioners, the ADR, has asked the supreme court to order the Election Commission and the Union government to make sure that voters can use VVPATs to confirm that their vote has been “counted as recorded”.

The plea states that while the VVPAT slip is visible for roughly seven seconds after pressing the button on the EVM through a transparent window, the need that voters confirm that their votes have been “recorded as cast” is partially satisfied.
