‘Apni Aukaat Mat Bhulo’: Social Media Slams ‘Classless’ RCB Players for Neglecting CSK’s MS Dhoni After Playoff Decider Clash.

Fans and followers alike referred to RCB’s post-match celebration and their failure to give MS Dhoni a handshake as “classless” and “over the top” on social media, which sparked a discussion over the true spirit of the game.

A apparently insurmountable task presented as simple. Last night, Royal Challengers Bengaluru shocked everyone by winning six straight games and securing the final playoff berth, a point ahead of CSK, whom they routed by 27 runs in the Chinnaswamy on Saturday.

The RCB players came to the pitch in wild celebration to commemorate their stunning playoff qualification. Reaching a goal of this magnitude demands joy as well.

But as usual, there is more scrutiny when there are greater stakes. The “classless” and “prideful” celebration style that the Bengaluru team adopted following their victory over CSK has also gained popularity recently.

Fan footage from the Chinnaswamy last night following RCB’s triumph has surfaced on X. In it, the home team is shown celebrating by charging to the middle of the crease while the losers, CSK, are seen line up in order to shake hands with their opponents, with talisman MS Dhoni leading the pack.

Fans and followers alike referred to RCB’s post-match celebration and their failure to give MS Dhoni a handshake as “classless” and “over the top” on social media, which sparked a discussion over the true spirit of the game.

But, as a counter, many other users have also raised the question to MS Dhoni’s reaction, who is seen promptly walking away before shaking the players’ hands, who were in the middle of the crease.

Others pointed out Dhoni’s reaction as ‘arrogant’, stating that the CSK man could have indulged in some patience had he looked to address his rivals.

No matter what the case may be, one thing is for certain. RCB pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in IPL history, after clinching only one win in their first 8 games to securing playoff qualification. And that is surely something that calls for celebration.

La Liga: Villareal and Real Madrid Play to a Thrilling 4–4 Draw, While Barcelona Defeats Rayo to Take Second Place.

Barcelona took the lead in the third minute when Lamine Yamal cut in from the right wing and chipped the ball to Lewandowski, La Liga who expertly controlled the pass with his chest and volleyed home.

In their final home game of the season, Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-0. Thanks to goals from Pedri and Robert Lewandowski early in the game, they were able to earn second place in La Liga.

The result moved Barcelona to 82 points, four points above Girona, who won 3-1 away at Valencia. Champions Real Madrid are 12 points above Barcelona with one more round of games left.

Barcelona took the lead in the third minute when Lamine Yamal cut in from the right wing and chipped the ball to Lewandowski, who expertly controlled the pass with his chest and volleyed home.

Although Rayo had their chances to level, Barcelona doubled their lead with some magical footwork from Joao Felix who saw his shot saved but Pedri managed to score from the rebound to give the home side a two-goal cushion.

Barely three minutes later, Pedri spotted a gap in Rayo’s high defensive line and he was put through on goal with a long ball from centre back Ronald Araujo, allowing the 21-year-old to fire home and double his goal tally for the season.

Barcelona will finish their season away at Sevilla next weekend while Rayo, who are 16th, host Athletic Bilbao.

Garcia brace helps Osasuna win 4-1 at Atletico

Raul Garcia scored in each half as Osasuna secured their first win at Atletico Madrid since 2009, beating the hosts 4-1 in LaLiga on Sunday and handing them their second home loss of the league campaign.

The visitors scored in the 26th minute when Alejandro Catena headed it down inside the box for Garcia to score. Osasuna doubled their lead in the 52nd minute with Atletico keeper Jan Oblak’s block falling to substitute Aimar Oroz for a close-range finish.

Atletico struck back three minutes later with Alvaro Morata scoring off Angel Correa’s cross from the left. But Garcia restored Osasuna’s two-goal cushion in the 64th minute, before Lucas Torro sealed the victory, hammering home with his right foot in the 88th.

Osasuna’s first win in seven matches lifted them to 11th place in the league with 44 points from 37 matches. Atletico, who have 73 points, will finish fourth after falling five points behind third-placed Girona.

Villarreal’s Sorloth scores four in thrilling 4-4 draw with Real Madrid

Villarreal forward Alexander Sorloth struck four times in 17 minutes to help his side fight back and snatch a 4-4 home draw against champions Real Madrid on Sunday as the Norway international became LaLiga’s top scorer.

Real opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Turkish youngster Arda Guler slotted home a low strike off a Brahim Diaz pass before Joselu doubled the lead with a close-range header on the half-hour mark.

Sorloth pulled one back for Villarreal with a towering header in the 39th minute, but Lucas Vazquez restored Real’s two-goal advantage only a minute later before Guler made it 4-1 in the final seconds of the first half.

But the hosts rallied after the break, with Sorloth scoring three goals in eight minutes, between the 48th and 56th, as he reached 23 league goals this season.

In a thrilling encounter, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerged victorious over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs, securing their place in the playoffs of IPL 2024. Rachin Ravindra’s explosive 61 off 37 balls and Faf du Plessis’s solid 54 off 39 balls laid a strong foundation for RCB. On the bowling front, Shardul Thakur and Yash Dayal delivered crucial spells, each taking two wickets, helping RCB to restrict CSK effectively.

Despite a valiant effort, CSK couldn’t chase down the target, leading to their elimination from the tournament. This win not only bolsters RCB’s confidence as they head into the playoffs but also marks a disappointing end to CSK’s campaign. RCB’s all-round performance highlights their potential as strong contenders for the title this season.

Sunil Chhetri, Indian Football Team Captain, Announces Retirement; World Cup Qualifier Against Kuwait to be his Swansong.

The top goal scorer for India, Sunil Chhetri, has declared his retirement from international football.

The most decorated football player in India, Sunil Chhetri, has declared his retirement from international competition. The 39-year-old Chhetri announced in a video posted on the social networking site X that the forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier between India and Kuwait in Kolkata on June 6 will be his final match.

“The recollection of the last 19 years is a combination of duty, pressure and immense joy. I never thought that these are the many games I would play for the country, good or bad but now I did but these last one and half two months I did. And this (the feeling) was very strange. I was probably going towards the decision that this game (against Kuwait) is going to be my last,” Chhetri said.

Sunil Chhetri, a name synonymous with Indian football, boasts a glittering career spanning over two decades. This gifted forward has not only dominated domestic leagues but also carved his name on the international stage. Call it coincidences or a twist of fate, Chhetri will play his final game in the city where he made his India debut 19 years ago. India’s game against Kuwait is a must-win to stay in contention for a World Cup Qualifiers Round 3 berth. Currently ranked second in Group A with four points from four games, India travel to face Qatar in their final group stage match. Only the top two teams progress.

“There is one day that I never forget and remember it quite often is the first time I played for my country man, it was unbelievable. But the day before, morning of the day, Sukhi sir, my first national team coach, in the morning he came to me and he’s like, you’re going to start? I can’t tell you how I was feeling man. I took my jersey, I sprayed some perfume on it, I have no idea why. So that day, everything that happened, once he told me, from breakfast to lunch and to the game and to my first goal in my debut, to conceding late 80th minute, that day is probably that I will never forget and is one of the best days of my national team journey,” Chhetri added.

“And the moment I told myself first, that yes, this is the game that is going to be my last, is when I started recollecting everything. It was so strange, I started thinking about this game, that game, this coach, that coach, that team, that member, that ground, that away match, this good game, that bad game, all my individual performances, everything came, all the flashes came. So I decided that this is it.”

Watch Sunil Chhetri’s retirement speech below:

Chhetri’s journey began in 2002 with Mohun Bagan. His talent soon propelled him abroad, with stints at the USA’s Kansas City Wizards (2010) and Portugal’s Sporting CP reserves (2012). Back in India, he donned the jerseys of prestigious clubs like East Bengal, Dempo, Mumbai City FC, and currently, Bengaluru FC. It’s with Bengaluru that Chhetri truly flourished, lifting trophies like the I-League (2014, 2016), ISL (2019), and Super Cup (2018). He even led them to the AFC Cup final in 2016.

Chhetri, the goal-scoring machine

While club success is impressive, Sunil Chhetri’s true magic lies in his international exploits. He has been instrumental in India’s victories in the Nehru Cup (2007, 2009, 2012) and the SAFF Championship (2011, 2015, 2021). Most significantly, his contribution to India’s 2008 AFC Challenge Cup win secured their first AFC Asian Cup appearance in 27 years.

But it’s his goalscoring prowess that sets Chhetri apart. Since his debut goal in 2002, he has amassed a staggering tally. With 94 goals in 150 international appearances, he sits comfortably as the third-highest active international goal-scorer, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Argentina’s Lionel Messi. This achievement places him fourth on the all-time list.

Chhetri’s international debut came in 2005, followed by his first goal against Pakistan. A defining moment arrived in the 2011 SAFF Championship, where he surpassed Indian legend I.M. Vijayan’s record of six goals in a single edition by scoring a phenomenal seven, propelling India to victory and becoming the national team’s highest scorer.

Across club and country, Chhetri’s goal tally stands at a remarkable 252 in 515 appearances, averaging almost a goal every two games. This consistency and talent haven’t gone unnoticed. In 2022, FIFA honoured him with a documentary titled “Captain Fantastic,” celebrating his journey and achievements.

Manchester City 0–2 Tottenham Highlights: City Defeats Arsenal in the Premier League Title Chase Thanks to a Brace From Haaland.

View the highlights of the Premier League game between London, United Kingdom’s Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City (MCI).

This page is now closed. Thanks for joining us. These were the updates as Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the Premier League on Tuesday, May 14:

  • Defending champions Manchester City beat Tottenham 2-0 in the Premier League.
  • Erling Haaland scores twice to settle what had been a nervy affair.
  • City climb back to the top of the table with one game remaining in the season.
  • Arsenal entertain Everton in their final game of the season on Sunday, while Manchester City host West Ham United.
  • The Spurs miss out on the fourth spot with the defeat as Aston Villa qualify for next season’s Champions League.

That’s it from our live coverage of Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City in the Premier League.

City move two points clear of Arsenal at the top with one game to play after a brace for Erling Haaland.

It was a nervy affair at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and defeat for the home side means they miss out on Champions League football next season.

The battle for the title will go to the wire and so will the battle for the Europa League spots. Join us on Wednesday for our coverage of Manchester United and Newcastle United.

For now, though – from me, Kevin Hand – it’s goodbye.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou bristles after defeat

“The last 48 hours have revealed to me the foundations are pretty fragile,” he said at the post-match news conference.

“Outside and inside we need to go back to the drawing board with everything.

“I probably misread the situation in what is important in what you need to do to be a winning side.”

Speaking to Sky Sports, he added: “It was a tight game. In the big moments we weren’t able to capitalise and they were.

“We were in the goal the whole time. Even at 1-0, we had the chance to level. Up until their second we were in it.

“We had opportunities within the game to punish them. We still have some work to do.

“We lost the game so I’m disappointed (to miss out of the Champions League), we’ll assess the season as we go.

“Wherever you finish is a fair reflection of where you are at.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola gives his reaction to the win

“These type of games, with the emotions, are difficult,” he told Sky Sports.

“The opponent was difficult but in the right moment we punished them.

“They have a lot of pace to get in behind. They are an exceptional team.

“When you play thinking about the consequences, losing the Premier League, they feel the pressure and cannot perform to the usual level.

“It will be there against West Ham on Sunday, the emotions are there. You need to relax and do what you need to do.

“They are not celebrating anything. Relief because we lead going into the last game but everything can happen.”

Manchester United and Newcastle United face off on Wednesday

The battle for the Europa League positions, and indeed Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United manager, is our focus on Wednesday.

‘We know how things can swing in football’

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker gave his reaction to the win:

“It was always going to be difficult with the emotions and everything riding on it,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s one step closer, it’s still not the job done but at least we bring it down to a game in front of our own fans.

“We had a job to do and we have done that. We know how things can swing against us in football.

“As the manager just said, we recover and prepare over the next three days and go and make history for this club.

“It’s not job done. There is still a game to go and a game to win.”

The points tally for Manchester City and Arsenal

Arsenal’s superior goal difference will give them some hope that a West Ham draw at Manchester City will be enough to offer the Gunners the chance to claim the title.

How Sunday shapes up for Manchester City and Arsenal

Manchester City host West Ham United on Sunday, while Arsenal entertain Everton.

Match Preview

Pep Guardiola said “history is in front of us” as he prepares his Manchester City team for a potentially tricky match at Tottenham on Tuesday that could ultimately decide the destination of the Premier League title.

City, chasing an unprecedented fourth straight top-flight English league crown, is one point behind leaders Arsenal but crucially have a game in hand.

If City beats Spurs, it will be able to seal the championship with a win at home to West Ham on the final day of the season on Sunday, when Arsenal hosts Everton.

Guardiola’s men are charging towards the finishing line, hitting 28 goals in their past seven Premier League matches and conceding just five times.

But the City boss, who said he was relishing the high-pressure title run-in, denied that the race was already effectively over.

City has never won a league match at Tottenham’s new stadium, which opened in 2019, and has not even scored a goal, though it won there in the FA Cup in January.

Has Rahul Dravid Quit? ‘Growing a World Class Indian Cricket Team’ is the BCCI Established Objective for a New Coach.

For a position that will last until December 2027 as Team India’s head coach, the BCCI is accepting candidates. Age restriction, playing experience, and coaching experience are requirements for eligibility. In every format, the coach is supposed to be the team’s leader.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially invited applications for the next head coach of the men’s national team. Notably, current head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure came to an end after last year’s ODI World Cup, but was later extended until June in view of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

Also Read Aston Villa vs Liverpool Live Premier League Highlights.

According to BCCI, the new head coach will have a three-and-a-half-year tenure, starting immediately after the T20 World Cup and ending in December 2027, just after the conclusion of the next ODI World Cup.

Announcing the update in a release, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated, “The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.”

What is the eligibility for applying to be India’s next head coach?

The BCCI has stated that to be eligible for the post of Team India head coach, candidates should be under the age of 60, have played a minimum of 30 Tests or 50 ODIs and have held a similar position with a full member Test nation for a minimum of two years. The Indian Cricket Board has also made it clear that it is looking for one coach to lead Team India in all three formats, meaning that the BCCI isn’t in favour of a split coaching system like the one adopted by the English and Pakistan cricket boards.

Explaining the responsibilities of the new head coach in a release, BCCI stated, “The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a world-class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”

No more Rahul Dravid?

Jay Shah had previously said that current head coach Rahul Dravid was also eligible to reapply. Meanwhile, the BCCI top executive had also stated that he wasn’t sure if the new head coach for Men in Blue will be of Indian or foreign origin.

Shah said, “Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years,”

Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Jhon Duran two late goals put Unai Emery’s side on brink of Champions League

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Two goals from Colombian substitute Jhon Duran saw Aston Villa salvage a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Villa Park. Unai Emery’s side are now five points clear of Tottenham in the race for fourth as Jurgen Klopp is denied victory in penultimate Liverpool game

hon Duran came off the bench to score twice and earn Aston Villa a 3-3 draw with Liverpool that all but ensures they will play Champions League football next season.

Emiliano Martinez’s early own goal was the worst possible start for Villa but they equalised through Youri Tielemans only for Cody Gakpo to restore Liverpool’s advantage midway through the first half. Jarell Quansah added a third early in the second.

That came after Diego Carlos produced an extraordinary miss from near the goal-line that would have levelled it, while Ollie Watkins also had one disallowed for offside. But Duran’s spectacular intervention turned the tide late on to salvage a point for Unai Emery’s side.

The comeback means that anything less than victory for Tottenham at home to Manchester City on Tuesday evening would mean Villa are certain of fourth. It was a dramatic if unwanted finale for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his final away game in charge.

The course of the drama

The world’s top scorer, Martinez, had been introduced by the Aston Villa announcer, but it took Argentina World Cup champion 62 seconds to be humbled in front of the Holte End, as he pushed the ball into his own net to give Liverpool the lead.

Even though Pau Torres diverted Harvey Elliott’s cross, the custodian should have had an easy time stopping it. Rather, he attempted to grab the ball, failed, and let it strike his chest. He grabbed it from behind him and shoved it in out of panic. A massive mistake.

Team news

  • Aston Villa brought Youri Tielemans into their team after recovering from a knock – the only change from the defeat in Greece with Matty Cash not in the squad.
  • Jurgen Klopp made one change to the Liverpool side who beat Tottenham with Joe Gomez filling in at left-back with Andy Robertson unavailable.

Mohamed Salah went close soon after but it was brilliant play from Watkins that brought Villa level. He outwitted Quansah in the left channel, pulling the ball back for Tielemans to lash in the equaliser. It was an unusually open start but that continued throughout.

Liverpool’s comeback to take the lead was highlighted when Gakpo tapped home the cross after Luis Diaz found Joe Gomes on the overlap. The finish at the opposite end was very simple, but Diego Carlos managed to miss that opportunity for some reason.

It was one for the ages, an expected-goals value of 0.99. Leon Bailey squared the ball to leave Watkins with the simple task of stroking into the vacant net but the Brazilian arrived at speed to nick it off his toe and inexplicably divert the ball wide of the far post.

Emery could not believe it and he was just as frustrated when Moussa Diaby went clean through just before half-time only to shoot high and wide of the goal. Villa paid for that profligacy immediately after the restart when Quansah put Liverpool two up.

Elliott’s free-kick on the angle was lofted towards the far post and though Lucas Digne lost the defender too easily it was a spectacular climb by the young centre-back, angling his header perfectly to loop the ball beyond Martinez for his first senior goal.

Such was the nature of the contest, it did not feel over. Villa thought they had pulled one back within minutes only for Watkins’ goal to be ruled out because Bailey was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up. Watkins then squandered another opening.

Elliott almost found Liverpool’s fourth only to be denied by the flag and just when Villa’s supporters were beginning to doubt, Alexis Mac Allister’s slack touch presented Duran with the chance to set up a stunning finish. The mood inside Villa Park was transformed.

The equaliser seemed to owe as much to that momentum as any design by Duran. When Diaby rushed towards goal, his shovelled pass struck the substitute, the ball ricocheting off him to leave Alisson stranded and send the Holte End wild with delight.

Klopp could only smile at the end, serenaded by the away support despite the disappointment. But it was a fitting final home game of the season for Emery’s Villa. They have confounded expectations all campaign. The Champions League now looms.

The Match in Stats

  • This was just the second time Liverpool have failed to win a Premier League game having led by two or more goals as late as the 84th minute, also drawing 3-3 with Southampton in August 2000.
  • Cody Gakpo’s strike to put Liverpool 2-1 ahead was the 1,196th Premier League goal of 2023-24 (now 1,199) making it the second-highest scoring season in the competition’s history after 1992-93 (1,222).
  • Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez scored his third own goal in the Premier League, the most ever scored by a goalkeeper in the competition’s history.
  • Liverpool have conceded two or more goals in four consecutive Premier League games for the first time since 2014.
  • Harvey Elliott assisting Jarell Quansah is the first time two English players aged 21 or younger have combined for a Premier League goal for Liverpool since Steven Gerrard assisted Michael Owen against Blackburn in 2001.

Klopp: It got away from us

“It got away from us tonight, there is no doubt about that,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We played a really good game. One team was playing for absolutely everything and one team was playing football and wants to win the game.

“I think the character and the attitude the boys showed was outstanding. I would have loved to have won the game – Dom had a chance in the box but when we gave away the 3-2 it was then really, really tricky. Then 3-3 and then they wanted to win.”

Speaking in the press conference afterwards about the emotions of taking charge of Liverpool away from home for the final time, Klopp joked that he was more professional than he thought. “I was completely in the game,” he said.

“But I appreciate so much what these boys and girls are doing. The away fans are always absolutely insane. It was a wonderful relationship, is a wonderful relationship. I always try to show my appreciation. The boys showed that as well with how many they played.”

Villa players share excitement

“There are some of us who have never been close to the Champions League in our life,” John McGinn told Sky Sports. “The manager has a no-excuse mentality. People have written us off and we have floated under the radar. We will have our Man City tops on tomorrow.”

Martinez was more succinct when addressing the supporters from the pitch. “Let’s go to the Champions League, baby,” he yelled. It was a more measured response from Emery, as one might expect. He preferred to focus on the final game against Crystal Palace.

Asked whether he will be watching Tottenham’s game against Manchester City, Emery said: “I will analyse this game tonight and I will watch Palace. It is my only objective.” He added: “Inch by inch. And still another inch to fight against Palace.”

Player of the match: Jhon Duran

“Big Jhon is a bit nuts and is a nightmare to have in your team but he has got quality,” Villa captain McGinn told Sky Sports. “We need to keep his feet on the ground over the next couple of days.” When those comments were put to Emery, he elaborated.

“He is very young, 20 years old but his potential is impossible to calculate or predict,” said the Villa boss. “But I believe in him.”

Emery added: “Football is different in Colombia. Tactically, this is the most difficult league in the world. You have to be compact always. We are working with him a lot to be very demanding. When he is not [demanding of himself], I am pushing him.

“But I know he will score, I know he will create chances. Today, I am very happy with how he helped us.”

What’s next?

The Premier League final day will take place on Sunday May 19 with all games kicking off at 4pm. Aston Villa take on Crystal Palace, while Liverpool host Wolves in Jurgen Klopp’s final game in charge.

Bundesliga: Leverkusen Crushes Bochum 5-0 to Extend their Winning Streak to 50 Games.

With its first Bundesliga title already secured and a spot in the German Cup and Europa League finals, no other elite European team has gone undefeated for as long as Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen erased memories of its last defeat almost a year ago by beating Bochum 5-0 away in the Bundesliga to stretch its unbeaten start to the season to 50 games across all competitions.

Sunday’s win atoned for Leverkusen’s 3-0 loss to Bochum at the same ground on the final day last season. Xabi Alonso’s team has not lost any game since – a run that has eclipsed Portuguese club Benfica’s record of 48 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions from late 1963 to early 1965.

No other top-flight European team remained unbeaten for as long as Leverkusen, which has already wrapped up its first Bundesliga title and will play in both the German Cup and Europa League finals.

“I think already the Bundesliga – you can’t imagine how much that means for the club or the fans,” Leverkusen midfielder Robert Andrich said. “We’ll lift the trophy next week in our stadium. It’s going to be very emotional. And then we go to Dublin and we go to Berlin. We want to get two titles there and then go on vacation with the triple in our backpack.”
