New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, filed a petition to challenge his detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the purported excise policy fraud, but the Supreme Court today dismissed his request for an early hearing. In response to Mr. Kejriwal’s plea contesting the Delhi High Court ruling that had maintained his arrest in the case, the court served notice to the ED.
The judge announced that the case would be heard the week of April 29 and requested that the ED submit a response to the plea by April 24.

On March 21, just hours after the high court denied him protection from coercive action, Mr. Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Department. Currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail, his judicial custody is about to expire.
