Has Rahul Dravid Quit? ‘Growing a World Class Indian Cricket Team’ is the BCCI Established Objective for a New Coach.

For a position that will last until December 2027 as Team India’s head coach, the BCCI is accepting candidates. Age restriction, playing experience, and coaching experience are requirements for eligibility. In every format, the coach is supposed to be the team’s leader.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially invited applications for the next head coach of the men’s national team. Notably, current head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure came to an end after last year’s ODI World Cup, but was later extended until June in view of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

According to BCCI, the new head coach will have a three-and-a-half-year tenure, starting immediately after the T20 World Cup and ending in December 2027, just after the conclusion of the next ODI World Cup.

Announcing the update in a release, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated, “The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.”

What is the eligibility for applying to be India’s next head coach?

The BCCI has stated that to be eligible for the post of Team India head coach, candidates should be under the age of 60, have played a minimum of 30 Tests or 50 ODIs and have held a similar position with a full member Test nation for a minimum of two years. The Indian Cricket Board has also made it clear that it is looking for one coach to lead Team India in all three formats, meaning that the BCCI isn’t in favour of a split coaching system like the one adopted by the English and Pakistan cricket boards.

Explaining the responsibilities of the new head coach in a release, BCCI stated, “The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a world-class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”

No more Rahul Dravid?

Jay Shah had previously said that current head coach Rahul Dravid was also eligible to reapply. Meanwhile, the BCCI top executive had also stated that he wasn’t sure if the new head coach for Men in Blue will be of Indian or foreign origin.

Shah said, “Rahul Dravid’s tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years,”

IPL 2024

One of the most thrilling IPL tournaments to date is expected to be the 17th edition. The favorites, MS Dhoni and CSK will still be in the running, but Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Titans will still be contenders.

With Hardik Pandya as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians, it will be interesting to watch how Rohit Sharma acclimates to his new position without the extra responsibilities. Virat Kohli, who took a long hiatus to be with his wife for the birth of his second kid, will be back in action in Bengaluru. Ahmedabad now has a new leader as Gujarat Titans’ manager, Shubman Gill, has taken on the role.

In the meantime, Rishabh Pant, the nation’s favorite son, returns to the capital city following an incredible comeback from a potentially fatal injury. Will this be MS Dhoni’s final season? That is still the major issue.

IPL 2024 Points Table

In the Indian Premier League 2024, a win earns two points for each team. Two groups of five players each are formed from the teams. In the league stages, each team plays one match against the other five teams and two against the opponents in their group.

After the league phase, the top four clubs in the IPL 2024 points standings will advance to the playoffs. The top-seeded team in the IPL 2024 standings and the second-placed club will square off in Qualifier 1, with the winner advancing straight to the championship match.

The two teams that place first and second in the points chart are rewarded by the IPL. The third and fourth-placed teams in the points table will square off in the Eliminator, which will determine who advances to the final. The loser of Qualifier 1 will have an additional chance to advance to the championship match.

Over the years, the T20 league has been more competitive due to the additional incentive given to clubs that finish in the top two slots in the IPL Standings.

Chennai and Gujarat faced each other in the final of 2023 after finishing 1-2 on the points table. Chennai defeated Gujarat in Ahmedabad to win the title.

This is the revised IPL 2024 points table with the most recent alterations to the 10 teams’ standings.

IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell became a wet cat in front of Mayank Yadav, and surrendered like this on a ball with a speed of 151!

Mayank Yadav, the fast bowler who is quickly becoming the new star of the Indian cricket team, lit up the Indian Premier League with his speed. In front of Mayank, even batters like Glenn Maxwell were observed changing like wet cats.

Bengaluru: In the Indian Premier League 2024, Mayank Yadav has established himself as the second name in speed. In his second game for the Lucknow Supergiants, Mayank again caused havoc against Royal Challengers Bangalore, after making waves with his furious bowling against Punjab Kings. The batsmen’s legs were shaking from Mayank’s rapid speed. In just four overs, Mayank claimed three wickets for his team’s 14 runs. In this, Glenn Maxwell also claimed one wicket. Mayank was bowling so quickly that he finished Maxwell’s innings in two balls.

Maxwell played for RCB in the sixth over of the match. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis had already been removed from the game. In addition to the pressure the team was under, Mayank Yadav was causing mayhem with his difficult ball. Mayank bowled a ball against Maxwell at a pace of 151 km/h in a scenario where he was unable to comprehend anything.

Maxwell managed to avoid getting hurt in front of Mayank, but he was unable to prevent his bat from making contact with the ball. The ball bounced in the air in this scenario, and Nicholas Puran made an easy reception of Maxwell after 30 yards. Glenn Maxwell, who thinks of himself as a fearless batsman in T20 cricket leagues throughout the world, gave up in front of Mayank in one swift motion and looked like a wet cat in the process. The game was won by Lucknow by 28 runs.

The RCB team lost at home for the second time in a row. In this game, Lucknow beat RCB by a margin of 28 runs. With Quinton de Kock scoring a strong fifty during the first 20 overs of the match, Lucknow, batting first, amassed 181 runs at the loss of 5 wickets; in reply, RCB was restricted to 153 runs.

Imad Wasim was observed smoking in the locker room following Islamabad United’s five-wicket victory in the PSL 2024 finals!

Imad Wasim, who became the first bowler to take five wickets in a PSL final, was observed smoking in the Islamabad United dressing room.

Imad Wasim, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, was found smoking in the dressing room on Monday after he astonishingly claimed five wickets for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine final against Multan Sultans at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena. The impressive bowling performance and Martin Guptill’s half-century were key components of Islamabad’s two-wicket win and third PSL title.

Wasim ran riot through the Multan Sultan batting line-up after Islamabad were put to bowl first in the summit clash. He handed the team the first breakthrough, in the second over, dismissing opener Yasir Khan before combining with captain Shadab Khan to send Multan four down for 85 runs in the 12th over.On returning to attack, Wasim dismissed Khusdil and Chris Jordan in successive deliveries, but was denied a hat-trick. He eventually finished with 5 for 23, becoming the first-ever bowler to pick up a fifer in a PSL final as Multan were restricted to 159 for nine.

After the impressive show with the ball, Wasim went to the dressing room and was seen smoking, a visual of which went viral on social media.

This isn’t the first instance that a cricketer was spotted smoking in the dressing room. Back in 2022, during an international match, Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad was caught smoking and was later reprimanded by match officials. More recently, during the 2023 ODI World Cup tournament, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell was seen smoking an e-cigarette in the dressing room.

In reply, Guptill’s 32-ball 50 kept Islamabad alive in the chase despite wickets falling at regular intervals. The veteran New Zealand batter later found himself in a 47-run stand with wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan which revived the side. However, it was Naseem Shah’s cameo of 9-ball 17, laced with a maximum and two boundaries, and Hunain Shah’s title-winning boundary in the last ball that seal the victory for Islamabad.

‘BCCI had discussions with Hardik Pandya’: How India all-rounder escaped Kishan-Iyer treatment at the last moment!

According to the top BCCI official, the apex board had discussions with Hardik Pandya. Here’s how Hardik escaped the ‘Kishan-Iyer treatment’.

There were no doubts about what Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer bring to the table as premier batters at Team India. However, the batting duo was deemed surplus to requirements when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its annual central contracts on Wednesday. Iyer and Kishan were not part of the 30-player list for the 2023-2024 season. After Kishan and Iyer lost their BCCI contracts, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan shared an interesting post mentioning the curious case of all-rounder Hardik Pandya.

Contract extensions were not handed out to Iyer and Kishan for ignoring BCCI’s directive to play in the Ranji Trophy. Wicketkeeper-batter Kishan refused to show up for Jharkhand in the Ranji season. Mumbai’s Iyer was not available for the quarterfinal against Baroda following his exit from the Indian Test squad. Kishan’s teammate at the Mumbai Indians (MI), all-rounder Pandya, bagged a Grade A contract from the apex cricket board for the 2023-2024 season.

How Hardik Pandya escaped ‘Kishan-Iyer treatment’?

In his explosive tweet, Irfan suggested that Pandya was not judged on the same parameter. All-rounder Pandya only plays white-ball cricket for India. So, how did Pandya manage to escape the Kishan-Iyer treatment at the last moment? According to a report filed by the Indian Express, Pandya will play for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s and Vijay Hazare Trophy when he is not a part of the national side. As per a top BCCI official, Pandya vowed to ply his trade with Baroda in domestic tournaments when the all-rounder is not on national duty.

‘Playing Ranji Trophy out of equation for Pandya’

“We have had discussions with Pandya, who has been told to play domestic white-ball tournaments when he is available. At this stage, according to the assessment of the BCCI’s medical team, he is not in a position to bowl in red-ball tournaments. So playing Ranji Trophy is out of the equation for Pandya. But he has to play other white-ball tournaments if there are no India commitments. If not, he will miss out on a contract,” the official was quoted as saying.

What’s next for Hardik?

Recovering from an ankle injury ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Pandya returned to competitive cricket for the first time after the 2023 World Cup at the DY Patil tournament. Pandya represented the Reliance One side in the local tournament. Pandya picked up two wickets and leaked 22 runs in three overs for Reliance One. The newly-appointed captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise also trained individually in Vadodara. However, Pandya also made sure that his fitness is his being monitored at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The 30-year-old last played for India against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in 2023.

Indian team management vexed at cricketers’ Ranji Trophy reluctancy: ‘In Hardik Pandya’s case…’

It became a matter of grave concern amid the rising talk over Ishan Kishan continued absence from all forms of cricket.

Hardik Pandya's

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are all set to take a decisive step against players idly waiting for the start of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) without showing any interest in participating in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, which is almost done with its league stage. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the Indian team management is particularly furious at a section of players who have shown reluctance to be part of the domestic first-class tournament despite being fit.

It became a matter of grave concern amid the rising talk over Ishan Kishan continued absence from all forms of cricket. The India wicketkeeper-batter had taken a break during the middle of the South Africa tour reportedly citing mental health fatigue. Team head coach Rahul Dravid emphasised that if and when Ishan chooses to return, he has to show some game time before returning to the Indian side, hinting at wanting him to participate in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season for Jharkhand. But the 25-year-old has stayed out of six straight league games so far. Meanwhile, he was spotted practising with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda, which seemed that he has been gearing up for IPL 2024 instead, leaving BCCI officials irked, added the report.

The decision makers in BCCI are well aware that some players don’t want to play any red ball cricket. If they are out of Indian team, they would at best play a few Mushtaq Ali T20 games and then not report for state team duty during red ball season,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “To rein in such players, board in all likelihood will make it mandatory to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which, they can’t play IPL or even appear in IPL auction if released by their franchise. The state units feel unless the diktat comes from top of BCCI, some of the young stars will treat Ranji Trophy with disdain.”

While the board official admitted that Hardik’s case was different given his long struggle with a back injury, owing to which the all-rounder hasn’t been part of the red-ball format since 2018, he revealed that other young players openly refuse to participate in Ranji Trophy.

“We can understand Hardik Pandya’s case as his body can’t take the rigours of red ball cricket. He can’t withstand the workload of Test cricket and India needs him fit for ICC events. But some of the other youngsters, whenever you call them, they will cite that they are currently doing physio work. There needs to be a stop somewhere,” the official said.
