Delhi Chalo march: ‘ ₹2 lakh crore is not a huge amount’, farmer leader Sarwan Singh urges Govt to remove barriers!

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher urges PM Modi to accept demands as farmers aim to march towards Delhi with peaceful intentions.

Delhi Chalo march today: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come forward to accept their demands and the farmers should be allowed to march towards Delhi.

He said, “An amount of ₹1.5-2 lakh crore is not a huge amount…We should be allowed to remove these barriers and march towards Delhi.”

“We tried our best from our side. We attended the meetings, every point was discussed and now the decision has to be taken by the central government. We will remain peaceful,” Pandher added.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said protesting farmers, who have been camping at two border points between Punjab and Haryana after they were stopped by security personnel, will peacefully march towards Delhi.

“Our intention is not to disturb peace, “Dallewal said ahead of the farmers’ plan to march towards the national capital.

He also condemned the Centre for setting up multi-layered barricades at the border points between Punjab and Haryana to prevent them from heading towards Delhi.

“It is our request that we want to go to Delhi peacefully. The government should itself remove the barricades and give us the permission to march towards Delhi and make arrangements for our sitting in Delhi,” Dallewal told reporters at the Shambhu border point.

The farmers protesting at two border points between Punjab and Haryana will resume their “Delhi Chalo” march on Wednesday after they rejected the Centre’s proposal for procuring pulses, maize and cotton at the MSP by government agencies for five years.

Thousands of farmers, who began their march to Delhi on February 13, were stopped at the Haryana border itself, where they clashed with security personnel. The farmers have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since then.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are spearheading the “Delhi Chalo” march to press the Centre to accept their demands, including a legal guarantee on the MSP for crops and farm loan waiver.

Massive traffic jam at Delhi-Gurugram border ahead of farmers’ protest!

More than 200 farmer unions will be marching to the Capital after the last round of talks with the government remained inconclusive.

Massive traffic jam at Delhi

Vehicular traffic was disrupted in the national capital on Tuesday ahead of the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march day after their meeting with two Union ministers over their demands remained inconclusive.

Videos shared by news agencies showed vehicles stuck in jam at Delhi-Gurugram border due to the restriction of traffic movement along the borders. The authorities have also restricted traffic movement at Singhu, Ghazipur and Shambhu borders in the capital.

Multi-layered barricading has been enforced at these borders to restrict the protesting farmers from entering the national capital.

“Section 144 is in place. Bringing in tractor trolleys and assemblies is restricted. The Delhi Police and the CAPF are here. We have prepared to seal the border. We will ensure that no one breaks this border. If there is any untoward incident we will seal it completely,” Ankit Singh, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), north east district, told ANI.

On Tuesday, more than 200 farmer unions will be heading to the capital after the last round of talks with the government remained inconclusive.

“We do not think the government is serious on any of our demands. We do not think they want to fulfil our demands…. Tomorrow, we will march towards Delhi at 10 am,” farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had told reporters on Monday.

Union agriculture minister Arjun Munda along with food and consumer affairs minister Piyush Goyal had attended the meeting with the farmers. Munda said that a consensus was reached on most issues and the Centre had proposed that the remaining concerns be addressed through the formation of a committee.

“The government always wants that we can resolve every issue through dialogue…. We are still hopeful and we welcome talks,” Munda was quoted by PTI as saying.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha had announced that more than 200 farmer unions will head to Delhi to press the Centre to accept their demands.
