Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Jhon Duran two late goals put Unai Emery’s side on brink of Champions League

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Two goals from Colombian substitute Jhon Duran saw Aston Villa salvage a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Villa Park. Unai Emery’s side are now five points clear of Tottenham in the race for fourth as Jurgen Klopp is denied victory in penultimate Liverpool game

hon Duran came off the bench to score twice and earn Aston Villa a 3-3 draw with Liverpool that all but ensures they will play Champions League football next season.

Emiliano Martinez’s early own goal was the worst possible start for Villa but they equalised through Youri Tielemans only for Cody Gakpo to restore Liverpool’s advantage midway through the first half. Jarell Quansah added a third early in the second.

That came after Diego Carlos produced an extraordinary miss from near the goal-line that would have levelled it, while Ollie Watkins also had one disallowed for offside. But Duran’s spectacular intervention turned the tide late on to salvage a point for Unai Emery’s side.

The comeback means that anything less than victory for Tottenham at home to Manchester City on Tuesday evening would mean Villa are certain of fourth. It was a dramatic if unwanted finale for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his final away game in charge.

The course of the drama

The world’s top scorer, Martinez, had been introduced by the Aston Villa announcer, but it took Argentina World Cup champion 62 seconds to be humbled in front of the Holte End, as he pushed the ball into his own net to give Liverpool the lead.

Even though Pau Torres diverted Harvey Elliott’s cross, the custodian should have had an easy time stopping it. Rather, he attempted to grab the ball, failed, and let it strike his chest. He grabbed it from behind him and shoved it in out of panic. A massive mistake.

Team news

  • Aston Villa brought Youri Tielemans into their team after recovering from a knock – the only change from the defeat in Greece with Matty Cash not in the squad.
  • Jurgen Klopp made one change to the Liverpool side who beat Tottenham with Joe Gomez filling in at left-back with Andy Robertson unavailable.

Mohamed Salah went close soon after but it was brilliant play from Watkins that brought Villa level. He outwitted Quansah in the left channel, pulling the ball back for Tielemans to lash in the equaliser. It was an unusually open start but that continued throughout.

Liverpool’s comeback to take the lead was highlighted when Gakpo tapped home the cross after Luis Diaz found Joe Gomes on the overlap. The finish at the opposite end was very simple, but Diego Carlos managed to miss that opportunity for some reason.

It was one for the ages, an expected-goals value of 0.99. Leon Bailey squared the ball to leave Watkins with the simple task of stroking into the vacant net but the Brazilian arrived at speed to nick it off his toe and inexplicably divert the ball wide of the far post.

Emery could not believe it and he was just as frustrated when Moussa Diaby went clean through just before half-time only to shoot high and wide of the goal. Villa paid for that profligacy immediately after the restart when Quansah put Liverpool two up.

Elliott’s free-kick on the angle was lofted towards the far post and though Lucas Digne lost the defender too easily it was a spectacular climb by the young centre-back, angling his header perfectly to loop the ball beyond Martinez for his first senior goal.

Such was the nature of the contest, it did not feel over. Villa thought they had pulled one back within minutes only for Watkins’ goal to be ruled out because Bailey was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up. Watkins then squandered another opening.

Elliott almost found Liverpool’s fourth only to be denied by the flag and just when Villa’s supporters were beginning to doubt, Alexis Mac Allister’s slack touch presented Duran with the chance to set up a stunning finish. The mood inside Villa Park was transformed.

The equaliser seemed to owe as much to that momentum as any design by Duran. When Diaby rushed towards goal, his shovelled pass struck the substitute, the ball ricocheting off him to leave Alisson stranded and send the Holte End wild with delight.

Klopp could only smile at the end, serenaded by the away support despite the disappointment. But it was a fitting final home game of the season for Emery’s Villa. They have confounded expectations all campaign. The Champions League now looms.

Klopp: It got away from us

“It got away from us tonight, there is no doubt about that,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We played a really good game. One team was playing for absolutely everything and one team was playing football and wants to win the game.

“I think the character and the attitude the boys showed was outstanding. I would have loved to have won the game – Dom had a chance in the box but when we gave away the 3-2 it was then really, really tricky. Then 3-3 and then they wanted to win.”

Speaking in the press conference afterwards about the emotions of taking charge of Liverpool away from home for the final time, Klopp joked that he was more professional than he thought. “I was completely in the game,” he said.

“But I appreciate so much what these boys and girls are doing. The away fans are always absolutely insane. It was a wonderful relationship, is a wonderful relationship. I always try to show my appreciation. The boys showed that as well with how many they played.”

Villa players share excitement

“There are some of us who have never been close to the Champions League in our life,” John McGinn told Sky Sports. “The manager has a no-excuse mentality. People have written us off and we have floated under the radar. We will have our Man City tops on tomorrow.”

Martinez was more succinct when addressing the supporters from the pitch. “Let’s go to the Champions League, baby,” he yelled. It was a more measured response from Emery, as one might expect. He preferred to focus on the final game against Crystal Palace.

Asked whether he will be watching Tottenham’s game against Manchester City, Emery said: “I will analyse this game tonight and I will watch Palace. It is my only objective.” He added: “Inch by inch. And still another inch to fight against Palace.”

Player of the match: Jhon Duran

“Big Jhon is a bit nuts and is a nightmare to have in your team but he has got quality,” Villa captain McGinn told Sky Sports. “We need to keep his feet on the ground over the next couple of days.” When those comments were put to Emery, he elaborated.

“He is very young, 20 years old but his potential is impossible to calculate or predict,” said the Villa boss. “But I believe in him.”

Emery added: “Football is different in Colombia. Tactically, this is the most difficult league in the world. You have to be compact always. We are working with him a lot to be very demanding. When he is not [demanding of himself], I am pushing him.

“But I know he will score, I know he will create chances. Today, I am very happy with how he helped us.”

Trading strategy for Tuesday, May 14 – Should you be a buyer or seller today? Here’s what market experts recommend:

Osho Krishan, Sr. Analyst – Technical & Derivative Research at Angel One recommends to remain cautious amidst the rise in volatility, which may be deceptive and could trap traders on either side. He adds that traders should refrain from aggressive overnight bets, and maintain exclusivity with stock selection.

On the level-specific front, Osho expects support for the Nifty around 22,000 – 21,900, followed by the sacrosanct support of the 89-DEMA around 21,800 zone. At the higher end, 22,200-22,300 is likely to act as intermediate resistance, and a sustainable surpass could only trigger a fresh round of longs in the system.

What are Shares and Types of Shares?

Analysing the F&O data, Ashwin Ramani, Derivatives & Technical Analyst of SAMCO Securities, reveals that both the 21,800 & 21,900 Strikes saw strong put writing. The Nifty has formed a hammer pattern on the daily chart, which is considered to be a bullish reversal signal. If call writers (Bears) exit from the 22,000 Strike, then Nifty is likely to move higher.

Echoing similar terms, Om Mehra, Technical Analyst of SAMCO Securities, said the Nifty has formed a hammer candlestick pattern at the support of its rising trendline on the daily chart, signaling a potential reversal.

The Nifty may trade within a broader range of 21,950 to 22,250 in the coming sessions. While the Nifty closed above its 100-day Moving Average (DMA), but needs to close above the crucial level of 22,300, to confirm a bullish stance to continue, Om Mehra added.

Bank Nifty halted its eight-session losing streak, showing resilience as it formed a morning star pattern on the hourly chart and rebound from lower levels, closing the session at 47,754. Currently, Bank Nifty is positioned near a crucial rising trendline. The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 46 levels. Immediate resistance remains at 48,000; if crossed, we expect a rally till 48,250-48,300, the analyst concluded in the note.

Similarly, Neeraj Sharma, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research at Asit C. Mehta Investment Intermediates suggested that as per the hammer candlestick pattern, as long as the Nifty holds the support of 21,820, the relief rally will continue. The 21-DEMA is placed near 22,315, which will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. Thus, for the short term, we expect a pullback towards 22,300 levels. If the index sustains above 22,315, the pullback rally might test 22,500 levels.

Mumbai Weather: The internet is filled with visuals of sand storms and rain, and the commercial capital of India can be seen in a very dystopian look.

Mumbai witnessed the first rains of the season on Monday afternoon as heavy rains accompanied by an intense sandstorm made their way into the city. The residents of the city, who had been facing scorching heat over the past few days, seemed happy with the change in weather. The internet is filled with visuals of sand storms and rain, and the commercial capital of India can be seen in a very dystopian look.

Mumbai, Thane and other adjoining areas of Maharashtra received rains on Monday, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecasted lightning & gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places. The regional weather centre has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for regions like Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.

Here’s some visuals of Mumbai rains

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is Rumored to Reach 4.26GHz; Aims to Outperform Apple A18/Pro.

The weather department has also issued an ‘Orange’ alert for several other districts of Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Nashik, Kolhapur, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Jalna and Parbhani districts. “Possibility of light rain/thundershower in evening/night over the next 24 hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 35°C and 28°C respectively,” the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said in a post on X.

The strong winds also uprooted some trees in several areas of Mumbai, causing traffic snarls. No one was injured in the incidents, and the administration is rerouting traffic from vulnerable areas to avoid any untoward incidents.

The change in weather has impacted flight operations at Mumbai International Airport, where takeoff and landing were suspended for 30 minutes, according to a report by the news platform NDTV. The suspension of flight operations came amid a forecast of hail and gusty winds (50-60 kph) and heavy rain in some districts of Maharashtra on Monday.

The rain forecast in several regions of India will relieve the country’s intense heatwave of the past few weeks. This year, anticyclonic conditions and El Nino effects have contributed to record-high temperatures in several states.

Urfi Javed Goes BALD? Actress Shares Bold Pic With No Hair, Shocked Fans Spot The Truth

Urfi Javed has gone bald? This question has been on everyone’s minds since the actress dropped a selfie from her car on Monday, May 13. The selfie featured the actress in a bald avatar, leaving fans shocked. But has Urfi Javed really gone bald?

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Urfi either used a filter or badly photoshopped her picture since a chunk of her hair was visible near the shoulders. Moreover, her bald ‘hair’ doesn’t align with her head. Thus, Urfi Javed has not gone bald. Check out her post here:

While Urfi hasn’t gone bald, she certainly took the internet by storm and left fans shocked. One person wrote, “Bata do yeh filter please.” Another added, “I hope it’s only a filter.” Another person added, “Wtffff woahhhhh did u actually do this?” One comment read, “Worst editor lambe bal dikhra hein .” Another added, “Filter hai piche ke Baal dikh raha hai .”

Meanwhile, on the work front, director Dibakar Banerjee revealed that Urfi Javed will be seen stripping down in Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2. The actress will have a cameo in the film. Speaking about the scene, Banerjee said that it is an uncut scene and added that he loves the scene.

Speaking with Zoom TV, the filmmaker said, “I love Urfi’s virtual avatar. She challenges you up front. The way she dresses, the way she exposes and hides her attitude, I like it. I held a meeting with her then. It seems like no one has ever said these things to her. She has a guest appearance in the film but I am sure she will get lead roles someday. But I love Urfi’s personality.”

Opening up about the scene, the director added, “We had this scene and Urfi was in a different mood that time. It’s a long scene with no cuts and Urfi is just stripping. That will be worth seeing. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is Rumored to Reach 4.26GHz; Aims to Outperform Apple A18/Pro.

Qualcomm’s acquisition of Nuvia will enable it to provide processors with its proprietary CPU cores. Along with unique cores, the forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will have a 2+6 CPU cluster—two speed cores and six energy-efficient cores. A new rumour on X from @jasonwill101 claims that the forthcoming chip, which aims to reach a frequency of 4.26GHz, may have its design updated by next month. It is purportedly intended to rival the Apple A18.

To put things in perspective, the Cortex-X4 super core of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can clock in at up to 3.3GHz, which is substantially less than the frequency Qualcomm plans to maintain with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The chip’s design was once stated to be completed by April, with a 4.00 GHz target frequency. It is claimed that Qualcomm was motivated to boost clock speed further by the Apple M4’s single-core score and performance core’s 4.4GHz clock speed.

Bharat Yoga Mala by Kaivalyadhama Sweeps Across India, Garnering Massive Participation

With the redesign, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could receive a boost in performance, especially when it comes to single-core based tasks.

TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process node is used in the Apple M4 and is also expected to be used to fabricate both the A18 series chips and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Looking at the latest Apple Silicon, it seems that the second generation 3nm node is efficient enough to sustain such high frequencies.

However, the one from Qualcomm does not support the ARMv9 instruction set and won’t have Scalable Matrix Extension (SME), which enables chips to perform complex tasks more efficiently. So we will need to see how Qualcomm manages the power efficiency this time. Some earlier reports claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be more power-hungry and will require smartphone manufacturers to use larger batteries.

Qualcomm is expected to unveil the chipset in the Snapdragon Summit which is likely to be held in October and the Xiaomi 15 series could be the first Oryon CPU powered Android flagship.

Notably, the company is also working on two ARM-based chips with the custom Oryon CPU cores for Windows PCs – the 12=-core Snapdragon X Elite and another 10-core Snapdragon X Plus.

Bundesliga: Leverkusen Crushes Bochum 5-0 to Extend their Winning Streak to 50 Games.

With its first Bundesliga title already secured and a spot in the German Cup and Europa League finals, no other elite European team has gone undefeated for as long as Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen erased memories of its last defeat almost a year ago by beating Bochum 5-0 away in the Bundesliga to stretch its unbeaten start to the season to 50 games across all competitions.

Sunday’s win atoned for Leverkusen’s 3-0 loss to Bochum at the same ground on the final day last season. Xabi Alonso’s team has not lost any game since – a run that has eclipsed Portuguese club Benfica’s record of 48 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions from late 1963 to early 1965.

It’s going to be very emotional. And then we go to Dublin and we go to Berlin. We want to get two titles there and then go on vacation with the triple in our backpack.”

What are Shares and Types of Shares?

The Stock Market Shares has been in the news every morning for the last few months. The most well-liked method for reaching your financial objectives and building long-term wealth is now investing in stocks. India alone saw a staggering surge in retail investors in FY21 of 142 lac. Nowadays, 12.9% of all investments made in India are made up of stocks or equities. An investor must have a fundamental understanding of the components and operation of the share market.

What Is the Meaning Of Share?

A share represents a unit of equity ownership in a company. Shareholders are entitled to any profits that the company may earn in the form of dividends. They are also the bearers of any losses that the company may face. In simple words, if you are a shareholder of a company, you hold a percentage of ownership of the issuing company in proportion to the shares you have bought, often managed through a share market app.

Shares can be further categorized into two types. These are:

  • Equity shares
  • Preference shares

They vary based on their profitability, voting rights and treatment in the event of liquidation.

Equity Shares Meaning

These are also known as ordinary shares and comprise the bulk of the shares being issued by a particular company. Equity shares are transferable and are traded actively by investors in stock markets. As an equity shareholder, you are not only entitled to voting rights on company issues but also have the right to receive dividends.

These dividends, however, are not fixed. Equity shareholders also partake in any losses faced by the company, limited to the amount they had invested. Equity shares can be further divided based on:

  • Share capital
  • Definition
  • Returns

Andhra Pradesh Elections 2024 LIVE Updates, Average Voter Turnout at 9 a.m. for L.S. Polls is 9.05%.

Classification Of Equity Shares based on Share Capital

Here is a look at the classification of equity shares based on share capital:

  • Authorized Share Capital: Every company, in its Memorandum of Associations, is required to prescribe the maximum amount of capital that can be raised by issuing equity shares. The limit, however, can be increased by paying additional fees and after the completion of certain legal procedures.
  • Issued Share Capital: This implies the specified portion of the company’s capital, which has been offered to investors through the issuance of equity shares. For example, if the nominal value of one stock is Rs 200 and the company issues 20,000 equity shares, the issued share capital will be Rs 40 lakh.
  • Subscribed Share Capital: The portion of the issued capital, which has been subscribed by investors is known as subscribed share capital.
  • Paid-Up Capital: The amount of money paid by investors for holding the company’s stocks is known as paid-up capital. As investors pay the entire amount at once, subscribed and paid-up capital refers to the same amount.

Classification Of Equity Shares based on Definition

Here is a look at the equity share classification based on the definition:

  • Bonus Shares: The bonus share definition implies those additional stocks that are issued to existing shareholders free of cost or as a bonus.
  • Rights Shares: Right shares mean that a company can provide new shares to its existing shareholders – at a particular price and within a specific period – before being offered for trading in stock markets.
  • Sweat Equity Shares: If as an employee of the company, you have made a significant contribution, the company can reward you by issuing sweat equity shares.
  • Voting And Non-Voting Shares: Although the majority of shares carry voting rights, the company can make an exception and issue differential or zero voting rights to shareholders.

Classification Of Equity Shares Based on Returns

Based on returns, here is a look at the types of shares:

  • Dividend Shares: A company can choose to pay dividends in the form of issuing new shares, on a pro-rata basis.
  • Growth Shares: These types of shares are associated with companies that have extraordinary growth rates. While such companies might not provide dividends, the value of their stocks increases rapidly, thereby providing capital gains to investors.
  • Value Shares: These types of shares are traded in stock markets at prices lower than their intrinsic value. Investors can expect the prices to appreciate over some time, thus providing them with a better share price.

Preference Shares

Preferential shareholders receive preference in receiving profits of a company as compared to ordinary shareholders. Also, in the event of liquidation of a particular company, the preferential shareholders are paid off before ordinary shareholders. Here are the different types of shares in this category:

  • Cumulative And Non-Cumulative Preference Shares: In the case of cumulative preference shares, if a particular company doesn’t declare an annual dividend, the benefit is carried forward to the next financial year. Non-cumulative preference shares don’t provide for receiving outstanding dividend benefits.
  • Participating/Non-Participating Preference Share: Participating preference shares allow shareholders to receive surplus profits, after payment of dividends by the company. This is over and above the receipt of dividends. Non-participating preference shares carry no such benefits, apart from the regular receipt of dividends.
  • Convertible/Non-Convertible Preference Shares: Convertible preference shares can be converted into equity shares, after meeting the requisite stipulations by the company’s Article of Association (AoA), while non-convertible preference shares carry no such benefits.
  • Redeemable/Irredeemable Preference Share: A company can repurchase or claim redeemable preference shares at a fixed price and time. These types of shares are sans any maturity date. Irredeemable preference shares, on the other hand, have no such conditions.

Conclusion

Investing in shares can prove to be a great source of long-term wealth generation for any individual investor. Stocks provide you with a variety of sectors and industries to choose from, helping you diversify your portfolio and mitigate your risks. Always remember to narrow down on trusted and reliable financial partners to open your Demat account and trading account, like IIFL.
