Dushyant Chautala move to seek a floor test comes after 3 Independent MLAs withdrew support to the Nayab Saini government in Haryana. Rohtak MLA B B Batra said the Congress too would meet the governor and request a floor test.

A day after announcing that he would back the Opposition Congress against the BJP government in Haryana, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala announced on Thursday that he has written to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya seeking a floor test in the Assembly. Congress MLA B B Batra said that they too would seek an appointment with the governor and request a floor test.

“Considering the gravity of the current circumstances and the urgent need to reinstate stability and uphold democratic norms in Haryana, I respectfully implore Your Excellency to invoke your constitutional prerogative…to direct the appropriate authority to immediately call for floor test to determine the majority of government,” former Haryana deputy chief minister Chautala said in his letter.

Chautala’s move – days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the state on May 25 – comes after Independent MLAs Dharampal Gondher from Nilokher, Randhir Golan from Pundri and Sombir Sangwan from Dadri withdrew support to the Nayab Saini government and wrote to the governor, announcing that they were now supporting the Congress.

“JJP has openly declared that if a no-confidence motion is moved by the Opposition, we shall support the Opposition against the present government. It is for the Congress party to initiate a step. We have written to the governor seeking a floor test. The current strength of the House is 88 and the government has to reach the majority mark of 45. His Excellency the Governor has to get the floor test conducted. We shall see how many MLAs support the government or Opposition,” Chautala, a former BJP ally, said on Thursday.

Accusing the BJP of horse-trading, Chautala said, “We used to think that horse-trading has stopped but BJP has relaunched it in the state in a different manner. At the time when the whip is issued, all party MLAs have to duly follow it and vote accordingly. I would reiterate that the previous no-confidence motion was moved against the government led by Manohar Lal Khattar. It is for the governor to see if he can get the floor test conducted and to see if the present government has a majority or not. If the government fails to prove its majority on the floor of the House, President’s rule should be imposed.”

In the 88-member Haryana Assembly, BJP currently has 40 MLAs, Congress 30, and JJP 10. There are six Independents and one MLA each from the Indian National Lok Dal and the Haryana Lokhit Party. The two seats of Karnal and Rania Assembly constituencies are vacant after Manohar Lal Khattar and Ranjit Singh resigned to become the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidates from Karnal and Hisar, respectively.

In his letter to the governor, Chautala mentioned that after Saini assumed office in March 2024, the government had demonstrated its majority in the Vidhan Sabha with the support of several Independent MLAs. “Subsequently, one Independent MLA Ranjit Singh Chautala resigned and his resignation was accepted on 30th April 2024. Recent developments have unfolded with three out of the six Independent MLAs who previously extended their support to the government in March 2024, withdrawing their backing,” the letter states.

“Given these developments and the clear stance of my party, JJP, which does not extend its support to the present government and is open to backing any other political party for government formation, it is evident that the incumbent government no longer commands a majority in the legislative assembly,” it adds.

On Wednesday, Bhupinder Singh Hooda had told The Indian Express that if Chautala writes to the governor and parades his MLAs in front of the governor, then Hooda would also send a Congress delegation led by Rohtak MLA Batra and seek a floor test for the present government.

Two Mumbai vendors have been arrested after a 19-year-old died after consuming chicken shawarma. A case has been registered under IPC sections 304 and 34.

What is Shawarma?

Shawarma is a well-known Middle Eastern dish, a common street food. It consists of thinly sliced meat, typically lamb or chicken, that is stacked into a large cone shape and cooked slowly on a vertical rotisserie. As the meat turns, the outer layer cooks and is shaved off for serving.

The sliced meat is typically wrapped in flatbreads like pita or lavash and is often accompanied by various toppings and condiments such as tahini, garlic sauce, hummus, pickles, onions, and tomatoes. 

Two roadside vendors in Mumbai were arrested on Wednesday after a 19-year-old named Prathamesh Bhokse died on Monday after consuming chicken shawarma from their food stall in Trombay, according to media reports.

As reported by, citing the police, “the vendors have been identified as Anand Kamble and Mohammad Ahmed Raiza Shaikh.” The police have registered a case and arrested two food vendors, according to an official statement.

A case was registered against the shopkeepers under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said the police.

According to, police officials reported that Prathamesh Bhokse, 19, and his uncle Hameed Abbas Syed, 40, both residents of Maharashtra Nagar, ate shawarma from the food stall on May 3. 

Senior inspector Rajesh Shinde told TOI, “After eating the shawarma, he had stomach pain and started vomiting. His family took him to a municipal hospital and got medicine, but his health did not improve till the late afternoon of May 5 after which he was taken to KEM Hospital. He was treated and sent home, but on Sunday, his health deteriorated, and he was again admitted to KEM, where he died on Monday.”

How to prevent food poisoning? 

  • Wash Your Hands: Always wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food, especially raw meat, seafood, or eggs.
  • Cook Food Thoroughly: Ensure that all meats, poultry, seafood, and eggs to their correct internal temperatures. Use a food thermometer to verify doneness.
  • Avoid Cross-Contamination: Keep raw meat and seafood separate from ready-to-eat foods. Use different cutting boards for meats and vegetables; don’t reuse utensils without washing them.
  • Be Cautious with Leftovers: Store leftovers in airtight containers and consume them within three to four days. Reheat leftovers to at least 165°F/74°C to kill bacteria.

Previous cases of shawarma-related food poisoning

Earlier in October 2023, a young man from Kochi died of suspected food poisoning after eating shawarma from a restaurant in Mavelipuram, Kerala. The post-mortem report for the 22-year-old indicated that he died from septicemia, a severe bloodstream infection.

In April 2022, over 52 people fell ill, and one person died after eating shawarma at a Cheruvathur eatery in Kerala. A 16-year-old girl named Devananda passed away due to food poisoning after consuming the dish. 

In September 2022, a 14-year-old girl who ate chicken shawarma at a restaurant in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, was found dead at home. Additionally, a total of 43 people, including four of the deceased girl’s family members, were hospitalized with a severe fever, vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea after eating shawarma.

The disappointment in the Lucknow camp was evident as owner Sanjiv Goenka, captain KL Rahul and the rest of his teammates looked gutted following the loss, which hampered the team’s chances of reaching the IPL 2024 playoffs. LSG had headed to Hyderabad with high hopes of extending their perfect record against former champions SunRisers. However, SRH were on top of their game, limiting LSG to 165 and then chasing down the total in just 9.4 overs to set a new T20 record.

KL Rahul paid the price for being timid on the field. While he won the toss and opted to bat, lack of intent in the powerplay cost the visiting team. LSG managed just 27 runs and lost 2 wickets at the end of the powerplay while SunRisers, thanks to Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s ruthless knocks, reached 107 at the end of their powerplay. The 80-run difference between the two teams’ totals in the powerplay is also the highest in IPL history.

KL Rahul was criticized by a section of fans and pundits. The LSG captain played an uncharacteristically slow knock — 29 off 33 balls. Thanks to Ayush Badoni’s fifty and Nicholas Pooran’s 4quick-fire 48, LSG was able to post 165 and give their bowlers something to work with.

However, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were in the mood to hit some big ones. Head hit 8 sixes and as many boundaries for his 30-ball 89 while young Abhishek smashed 6 sixes and 8 boundaries for his 28-ball 75. The duo added 167 runs for the opening partnership and steered SRH past the finish line in record time.

KL Rahul echoed the emotions of millions of cricket fans who watched SunRisers make a mockery of the 166-run target, acknowledging the incredible big-hitting show from Head and Sharma.

“I am lost for words,” he said while talking to the broadcasters after the one-sided contest.

“We have watched that kind of batting on TV. But this is unreal batting. Everything seemed to find the middle of the bat. Kudos to their skills. They have worked hard on their six-hitting skills. They didn’t give us a chance to know what the pitch played in the second innings,” he added.

The Assam HSLC 10th Result 2024 was announced by AHSEC on 20 April 2024, and the pass percentage was 75.7 percent.

The AHSEC conducted the Assam HS final result from February 12 to March 13. Last year over 3.4 lakh registered for the exam and girls outperformed boys across all streams.

In 2023, the Assam Class 12 results were declared on June 6, 2023. Across streams, the pass rates stood at 84.96 percent for Science, 79.57 percent for Commerce, and 70.12 percent for Arts.

Several photos and videos from Ranveer Singh’s Instagram are no longer visible. It also included the dreamy pictures from his and Deepika Padukone’s wedding in Italy’s Lake Como. This also raised concern amongst his fans.

Recently, a photo of Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh has been widely circulated on the internet. In the viral image, the celebrity couple appears to be on vacation. While the location and time of the photo are not clear, it is speculated that they are presently on their babymoon.

The couple is expecting their first child. They shared the pregnancy announcement in February this year. Deepika and Ranveer got married in 2018. Her delivery is due in September 2024.

In a major revelation, the police have found that Gurucharan Singh was operating more than 10 financial accounts.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma actor Gurucharan Singh, who went ‘mysteriously’ missing, was operating multiple bank accounts for financial transactions and was frequently using credit cards despite not being in good financial condition, police sources said.

Following the investigation by Delhi Police, the Special Cell has also started probing the matter simultaneously. 50-year-old Singh is believed to have been visiting his parents in Delhi and was expected to return to Mumbai. However, the actor has not been heard from since April 22.

Now, in a major revelation, the police have found that Gurucharan Singh was operating more than 10 financial accounts. Official sources said that even though Gurucharan’s financial condition was not good, he was operating multiple accounts.

His activities included withdrawing cash through credit cards and paying dues of one card from the other, they said. Singh had last withdrawn Rs 14,000 from an ATM, and there is no information available after that, they said.

During the initial investigation, friends and relatives of the actor told police that Gurucharan was getting close to spirituality and had even put forward the thought of going to the mountains.

The actor was scheduled to reach Mumbai on April 22, but he allegedly misled the person who was supposed to receive him, the police source added. Earlier, the actor’s father, deeply distressed, filed a complaint with the Delhi Police, detailing his son’s sudden disappearance since his departure for Mumbai.

Despite efforts, the ‘Sodhi’ fame actor has neither reached Mumbai, where he works for a living, nor returned home. His phone remains unreachable, exacerbating the worries of his family.

Fahadh Faasil impressed the fans with his recent release Aavesham. The Malayalam action comedy won several hearts and emerged to be a blockbuster. Now, the makers have finally announced the digital release of the film, however, there’s a catch. 

On Thursday, Prime Video took to its Instagram and shared the poster of Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham, the OTT giant wrote, “College, gangsters, mayhem, and a whole lot of unexpected! #AaveshamOnPrime, watch now.” However, there’s a twist. The film is available to watch on the platform only in Malayalam and the Hindi version of the film is yet to come.

Netizens expressed their excitement in the comment section and also demanded that the other versions of the film be released soon. The love that the film has been receiving at the box office is a testament to the appreciation of the audience and critics alike.” 

Meanwhile, Fahadh Faasil will be next seen reprising his role in Pushpa 2: The Rule which also stars Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna among others. Helmed by Sukumar, the film is scheduled to hit the theatres on August 15.
