According to a Lancet investigation, there are “glaring inequities” among people who suffer from breast cancer symptoms, hopelessness, and financial hardship that are frequently “hidden and inadequately addressed”.
Better communication between patients and healthcare providers was recommended by the committee as a critical intervention to address these issues with breast cancer. This might enhance quality of life, improve body image, increase adherence to therapy, and increase survival.
“Historically, women have been accorded less respect than men for their fundamental human rights in all settings, which has implications for patient agency and autonomy,” stated Reshma Jagsi of Emory University School of Medicine in the United States.
“Training in communication skills should be mandatory for all healthcare professionals. While it may seem straightforward, raising the standard of communication between patients and medical personnel might have significant advantages that go well beyond the confines of breast cancer treatment, according to Jagsi.
“Patients should be encouraged to exercise their voices, choosing their level of involvement in care decisions,” she said.
