Amit Shah fake video case: According to the Delhi Police, a special cell has filed a formal complaint (FIR) over the distribution of a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech on quota concerns across various social media platforms.
About the bogus video case involving Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah, the Delhi Police has called Telangana Chief Minister and Congress leader Revant Reddy, according to ANI. The Congressman has been called to appear with his cell phone before the Delhi Police’s IFSO unit (Cyber Unit) on May 1.

According to the Delhi Police, a special cell has filed a formal complaint (FIR) over the distribution of a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech on quota concerns across various social media platforms.
The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), a division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, reportedly filed a complaint regarding Shah’s doctored video, which altered his remarks to appear as though he was supporting the elimination of all reservations. This led to the police filing a First Information Report (FIR), according to PTI.

According to the police, the case has been filed under section 66C of the Information Technology Act, section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), section 465 (forgery), section 469 (forgery to harm the reputation of any party), and section 171G (publishing false statement with intent to affect the result of an election). Section 153 (wantonly causing provocation to cause riot) and section 465 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) are the applicable sections.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that a man, Reetom Singh was arrested in connection with the fake video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The ‘doctored’ video
The Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier written in the complaint that it has been found that some doctored videos are being circulated by users of Facebook and Twitter.
The video seems to be doctored spreading misleading information to create disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquility and public order issues, the MHA added.
On April 23, at the Vijaya Sankalp Sabha in Telangana, Amit Shah reportedly said that “unconstitutional Muslim reservation would be abolished” if the BJP came into power in Telangana.
“I want to say this: if the BJP forms a government, then this unconstitutional Muslim reservation will be abolished. These rights belong to SC, ST, and OBC, and it will be given to them by abolishing Muslim reservation,” the minister had said.
The BJP explained that the original video was of Amit Shah discussing the removal of the four percent “unconstitutional” reservation for Muslims in Telangana, and it was edited to falsely depict the Union Home Minister advocating ending Muslim reservation during a recent Lok Sabha 2024 election rally.
The BJP alleged that the video showing Shah promising to scrap reservations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is “fake”.
