Google billing controversy: CCI refuses Indian internet companies temporary release!

Google News: The internet companies sought to restrict Google News from levying any commission for in-app purchases and from delisting those not adhering to its policies. The relief was sought by People Interactive, which runs Shaadi.com and Mebigo Labs, which runs Kuku FM.

Indian internet businesses’ interim requests to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to stop Google from charging any commission for in-app purchases and to prevent the Play Store from delisting apps that violate its regulations were denied.

The CCI’s denial of temporary relief is related to the inquiry it launched on March 15 into Google’s Play Store billing practices, alleging that the US-based behemoth’s practices breached competition law on their face.
