AAP to gherao PM Narendra Modi’s home following today’s detention of Arvind Kejriwal, police increase security

According to the Delhi Police, the AAP is not permitted to organize any protests today.

PM Narendra Modi: In response to the Aam Aadmi Party’s request to gherao the expansive mansion in protest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s incarceration, the Delhi Police have stepped up security surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home.

However, according to ANI, the Delhi Police have stated that they have not given the AAP permission to stage any protests.

“The AAP has not been given permission to protest. In order to preserve law and order, we have sufficiently manoeuvred at the PM house and the Patel Chowk metro station, Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla said ANI. “There will be no marching or protesting permitted. There have been no route diversions.

The police have increased security in a number of other areas of the nation’s capital in addition to the PM’s home.

Strong security measures have been put in place. To preserve law and order in the region, we have put in multiple levels of protection,” an unnamed Delhi Police officer told PTI.

“Section 144 (of the CrPC) is already imposed around the prime minister’s residence and no one will be allowed to protest,” he stated.

The AAP’s protest is expected to have a negative impact on traffic flow in some areas of central and new Delhi.

The Delhi Traffic Police released a warning on Monday, March 26th, saying that no car will be permitted to stop or park anywhere on Tughlak Road, Safdarjung Road, or Kemal Ataturk Marg.

“General public entry will not be permitted on Tughlak Road, Safdarjung Road, or Kemal Ataturk Marg in order to ensure smooth traffic management in the New Delhi area. Vehicles found parked on the aforementioned roads shall be towed away and prosecuted for improper parking and disobedience of lawful instructions,” the advisory continued, as reported by PTI.

Additionally, it stated that the police asked commuters to stay off of Teen Murti Marg, Safdarjung Road, Akbar Road, and Kemal Ataturk Marg.

In an effort to protest Kejriwal’s incarceration, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai had stated last week that he intended to “gherao” the prime minister’s mansion on Tuesday. Rai has also demanded “mega protests” by AAP members around the country.

On March 21, Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate following several mentions of him in the chargesheets pertaining to the excise policy issue. Despite receiving nine summonses from the ED, he declined to give a deposition to the investigative agency.

The national convenor of the AAP is charged with requesting bribes from alcohol vendors in return for favors. He has additionally been charged by the ED with being the “kingpin and key conspirator” behind the now-cancelled policy.

Kejriwal has refuted the allegations, claiming that the Centre, led by the BJP, is “manipulating investigative agencies for political motives”.

AAP leaders chose on Monday to abstain from Holi festivities in protest of their convenor’s apprehension.

“Holi is more than just a celebration; it represents the triumph of righteousness over injustice and the triumph of virtue over evil. All Aam Aadmi Party leaders are currently engaged in a day-and-night struggle against injustice, cruelty, and wickedness. Atishi posted on X, “This year, the Aam Aadmi Party has decided that we will not play with colors and we will not celebrate Holi.”
