Now, reach Taj Mahal by Metro. PM Modi to launch Agra ‘priority corridor’ tomorrow | Details

The ‘priority corridor’ of the Agra Metro Rail Project seeks to offer tourists direct metro access to major attractions like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Taj Mahal by Metro

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the ‘priority corridor’ of the Agra Metro via video conference on Wednesday, along with Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Agra. This section, overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), seeks to offer tourists direct metro access to major attractions like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

The inauguration signifies the commencement of metro train operations on a 6 km ‘priority corridor’, completed in record time, as per Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRCL) officials.

“Agra is home to many UNESCO World heritage sites including the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandra Tomb, and Agra Metro rail system is all set for seamless interconnectivity among these sites for tourists thronging the city in large numbers on a daily basis,” said Panchanan Mishra, the deputy general manager (DGM) Public Relation Office for UPMRCL.

Agra Metro Rail Project

-After its inauguration, the metro rail will commence operations on the ‘priority corridor’, comprising six stations along a 6 km stretch.

The initial three elevated stations on the corridor are Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta, and Fatehabad Road Station, while Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Mankameshwar are underground metro stations.

-The project was initiated on December 7, 2020, and half of the project funding comes from the European Investment Bank (EIB), with the remaining half split equally between the state and central governments.

-The total expenditure for the Agra Metro Rail Project amounts to Rs. 8379.62 crore. Specifically, the priority section has been completed at a cost of Rs. 2100 crore.

-The ticket price for the corridor is reportedly set at ₹10 for travelling between stations, ₹20 for two stations, and ₹30 for three to six stations.

-Agra Metro, constructed in Savli, Vadodara, aligns with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives. The project includes provisions for 28 metro trains with three coaches each for Agra.

-Agra Metro is the country’s pioneering project, completing a 3 km underground stretch, including tunnels, within an impressive 11-month timeframe.

-The construction of the elevated corridor for the ‘priority corridor’ of Agra Metro was completed in 29 months, and the underground corridor in 23 months, marking it as the fastest underground metro project in India.

UPMRC ensured the construction was ‘green’

Panchanan Mishra said, “From day one, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has ensured that its construction activities remain green, livable, and environmentally friendly. The primary section and additional underground section of Agra Metro have received ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 45001 certification for safety management.”

Mishra added that Captain Shubham Gupta and Fatehabad Road metro stations have achieved the Platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council.

He said they were relocated elsewhere instead of felling trees along the metro corridor’s path. UPMRC conducted tree plantation across a 21-hectare area as part of mandatory afforestation efforts. Trees were also planted along the median of the elevated corridor, spanning from Fatehabad Road Metro Station to Taj East Gate Metro Station.

Smriti Irani Slams Lalu Yadav over ‘Without Parivaar’ jibe at PM, says, ‘Nobody will be able to touch even a hair…’

Patna Police has registered a case against Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav over their statement against PM Modi!

Smriti Irani

Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani railed against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Yadav as the latter said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “has no family and is neither a Hindu”.

Responding to the RJD leader, Irani said, PM Modi has a family of 140 crore Indian and added, “No one could even dare to touch even a hair of the Pradhan Sewak”.

Addressing a gathering at the ‘Namo Yuva Maha Sammelan’ organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, Smriti Irani said, “The fodder thief of INDI alliance said that he (PM Modi) has no family, I want to tell him that, we are ‘Modi’s parivaar’, these youths are ‘Modi’s parivaar’…nobody will be able to touch even a hair of that person whose family are 140 crore people of India”.

Irani referred to Yadav as a ‘fodder thief’ as the RJD leader was found guilty of the infamous ₹139 crore ‘chara ghotala’

Meanwhile, Patna Police has registered a case against Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav over their statement against PM Modi.

On the other hand, Smriti Irani has dared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to have a debate on the “difference” between the 10 years of UPA rule and the Narendra Modi government.

“If my voice is reaching Rahul Gandhi, then he should listen with open ears. Let there be a discussion on what is the difference between your (UPA) 10 years and Modi’s 10 years,” she said.

“I guarantee that even if an ordinary worker of Yuva Morcha starts speaking in front of Rahul Gandhi, he will lose the strength to speak,” she said.

Smriti said in her address that the BJP has fulfilled the three major promises made to the public in the party manifesto in the last 10 years.

She said that the abrogation of Article 370 that ended the special status of the then state of Jammu and Kashmir, women’s reservation in the legislature, and the construction of Ram Mandir were these promises and they were fulfilled.

Lalu Yadav prompts ‘Modi ka parivar’ campaign, Rahul Gandhi gave ‘Chowkidar’

Top BJP leaders have added the “Modi ka Parivar” slogan on their handles on the X social media platform.

In Short

  • BJP leaders add ‘Modi ka Parivar’ slogan on X social media.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda among those.
  • PM introduces slogan in Telangana public meeting

Top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, on Monday added the “Modi ka Parivar” slogan on their handles on the X social media platform. The development came hours after Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav said at a rally that the Prime Minister “does not have a family of his own”.

Earlier in the day while addressing a public meeting in Telangana’s Adilabad, the Prime Minister said that his new slogan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls this year is “you are Modi’s and Modi is yours”.

He also said that the “entire nation is saying in one voice today, ‘main hu Modi ka Parivar’ (I am Modi’s family)”.

While addressing the ‘Jan Vishwas Maha Rally’ at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Sunday, Lalu Yadav had criticised the Prime Minister over his remarks on nepotism,

“People with more children are subjected to humiliation over the issue,” the former Bihar Chief Minister said, adding that Modi “does not have a family of his own”.

The new slogan is reminiscent of the 2019 “Main bhi Chowkidar Hoon” campaign which was prompted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remark “Chowkidar chor hai”.

The word “Chowkidar” gained prominence after Modi started using it when he became the Prime Minister in 2014.

The Congress MP had made the remarks while accusing Modi of corruption in the Rafale fighter jet deal.

Just before the elections took place in May 2019, the Prime Minister launched the poll campaign in March that year by posting a video on X (then Twitter) with the hashtag #MainBhiChowkidar.

Some of the other top BJP leaders who have put the ‘Modi ka Parivar’ slogan on their profiles on X include Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Piyush Goyal; and Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath, Vishnu Deo Sai and Pramod Sawant, among others.

In his address at the public meeting in Adilabad, Telangana, the Prime Minister also said that “crores of people of the country consider me as their own, as a member of their family”.

“I say this to the 140 crore people of the country that this is my family. Those who have no one also belong to Modi and Modi belongs to them.” the Prime Minister added.

PM Modi not real Hindu, didn’t get tonsured on mother’s death: Lalu Yadav

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “is not a real Hindu” as he did not get his head shaved when his mother Heeraba Modi died in 2022.

In Short

  • Lalu Prasad Yadav criticises PM Modi, claims he’s not a ‘real Hindu’
  • First Mahagathbandhan rally held in Patna, attended by Opposition leaders
  • Lalu Yadav targets PM on nepotism, praises daughter for kidney donation

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed “he is not a real Hindu” as he did not get tonsured when his mother Heeraba Modi died in December 2022.

According to Hindu customs, men should shave their heads when a parent dies.

Lalu Yadav made the remarks while addressing a ‘Jan Vishwas Maha Rally’ at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna, which was attended by several Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The former Bihar Chief Minister also targeted the Prime Minister for his remarks on nepotism, saying that “people with more children are subjected to humiliation over the issue”.

This was the first Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) rally held in Patna, as well as the first after Lalu Yadav underwent a kidney transplant in Singapore in 2022.

While taking potshots at the Prime Minister over nepotism, Lalu Yadav praised his daughter Rohini for donating her kidney to him.

The RJD chief also asserted that, despite multiple ailments, his work towards the people continued.

While appealing to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he said, “Bihar has given lots of great personalities. In the same Gandhi Maidan, leaders of the country have held rallies and meetings.”

“Bihar is the land that drives the country. Bihar’s opinion has so much power that the people of the country imitate what Bihar decides,” he added.

On Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar switching sides to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the RJD chief said, “We never abused him when he broke the alliance with us.”

“Is he not ashamed of what he does? The BJP will be decimated in the coming polls. We stand united against the BJP,” he added.

Also addressing the rally, Kharge questioned PM Modi’s slogan “Modi Ki Guarantee” and asserted that Nitish Kumar will never be taken back to the Mahagathbandhan fold.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Centre was being benefitted by their corporate benefactors with loan waivers as small and medium businesses were affected under the pressure mounted by demonetisation and the enforcement of the Goods and Services Tax.

CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the actual ‘Amrit Kaal’ will come only after the BJP is ousted from power.

BJP finalises 100 candidates, rigorous selection process: Sources

The BJP has finalised a list of 100 Lok Sabha candidates following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s midnight meeting on Thursday. The list is expected to be announced in a few days, sources said.

In Short

  • List to focus on high profile candidates such as PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda
  • May include several fresh faces, including women
  • Importance to be given on seats lost in 2019 elections by a small margin

The BJP has finalised 100 Lok Sabha candidates after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a late-night meeting at his residence on Thursday, say sources. The first list is expected to be announced in the next few days, sources said.

The list will focus on high profile candidates such as PM Modi himself from Varanasi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow along with the ‘weak’ seats that the party lost in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a small margin.

States that had the focus of the BJP top brass at Thursday’s late-night meeting were Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Kerala and Telangana, among others.

Sources said that there is a possibility of Union Ministers, who are also Rajya Sabha MPs, contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections likely to be held in April-May. These legislators include Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Union Minister of State (MoS) V Muraleedharan.

The BJP’s list will also see the party focussing on fresh faces, including several women. For instance, the BJP could pitch Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh to take on Trinamool Congress MP and Bollywood legend Shatrughan Sinha in West Bengal’s Asansol district.

On Thursday, PM Modi chaired a four-hour long CEC meeting to finalise the first of BJP’s candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Starting at 10:30 pm, the meeting went on for over four hours. It was attended by BJP chief JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, among others.

Last week, top BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, JP Nadda and Adityanath, held a meeting to discuss the “weak seats” that may pose challenges for the party in the upcoming general elections.

FIRST LIST – BEHIND THE SCENES

A lot of work went behind preparing the first list, including taking feedback from the public, sources said. The public was asked to submit their feedback about the MPs of their constituency on BJP’s NaMo app, and also mention the three most popular BJP leaders in their regions.

Reports were sought from BJP MPs regarding the work they have done in their respective constituencies for the last two years. Survey agencies were roped in to give a report on every parliamentary constituency.

Moreover, ministers in every parliamentary constituency of BJP ruled states were asked to gather reports on the work done by MPs. Then, the reports received from ministers and party organisation committee were reviewed by the state election committee. A list of names for each parliamentary seat was prepared at the state level meetings.

Before Thursday’s CEC meeting, the core group of every state met with JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh. Names of possible candidates for each parliamentary seat were discussed at the meeting. This discussion happened among PM Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda at the Prime Minister’s residence prior to taking place at the CEC meet.

Sources said that the BJP’s strategy is to see who has the best chance to win each seat. If this candidate is from another party, then the saffron side’s aim would be to bring the individual within their fold. For this, committees have been formed at state as well as central level.

CANCELLATION OF TICKETS

According to sources, the final meeting of the CEC chaired by PM Modi is expected to be held on March 3. It is believed that tickets of MPs whose performance has not been good will be cancelled without any hesitation. The Prime Minister has said that BJP will be fighting for every parliamentary seat.

There are talks of cancelling the tickets of some ministers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Additionally, tickets of at least 60-70 MPs are likely to be cancelled. Fresh faces will be given a chance and will replace old ones who have won from a particular constituency twice.

However, sources added, that tickets of OBC MPs are not expected to be canceled. In 2019, 85 of the 303 OBC MPs that the party fielded emerged victorious.
