  • Born in 1954, Alamgir Alam graduated from Bhagalpur University in 1974. A senior Congress leader in Jharkhand, Mr Alam is a four-time MLA from the Pakur constituency.
  • A resident of Sahibganj district, Mr Alam was first elected to the Jharkhand Assembly in 2000 and then again in 2004. He also served as the Speaker of the Jharkhand Assembly in 2006. While Mr Alam lost the polls in 2009, he registered successive wins in the Jharkhand Assembly elections in 2014 and 2019.
  • The 70-year-old is currently serving as Jharkhand’s Minister of Rural Development in Chief Minister Champai Soren’s government.
  • Mr Alam is currently in the eye of a storm after the ED carried out searches linked to a money laundering case filed against Veerendra Kumar Ram, the former chief engineer of the rural development department, who was arrested last February. The ED, in its 2023 statement, said that Mr Ram “generated proceeds of crime in the name of commission” from contractors in place of allotment of tenders to them.
  • The Jharkhand minister, though, claimed that he had “no official information” about the raids, adding, “I have been watching TV and it says the premise is linked to the official PS (private secretary) provided to me by the government.”

In Candid Rapid Fire, Rahul Gandhi Reveals Why White T-shirts are His Signature Attire, a Watch.

As campaigning for the remaining phases of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections intensifies, Rahul Gandhi shares candid reflections on the process, emphasizing the importance of ideology and transparency.

With the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 progressing into its remaining phases, political leaders are intensifying their efforts to secure support from the masses ahead of the crucial voting days. Among these leaders is Rahul Gandhi, a prominent figure in the Congress party, who has been actively engaging in rallies and meetings. Amidst his campaign trail, he took a moment to share some candid reflections on the nature of campaigning and its significance to him.

In a recent post on social media platform X, Gandhi shared a 2-minute-long video capturing snippets of his activities during a day of campaigning in Karnataka. In the video, he can be seen engaging in light-hearted rapid-fire questions and discussions with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Captioning the post, Gandhi wrote, “A day campaigning in Karnataka. Some light rapid-fire questions and some very illustrious company.”

When asked about his thoughts on campaigning, Gandhi humorously remarked that the best part for him is “when it ends.” Reflecting on the duration of his current campaign, which has spanned nearly 70 days, he emphasized the rigorous nature of political engagements, particularly citing his previous Bharat Jodo Yatra. Despite the challenges, he expressed a fondness for delivering speeches as they prompt reflection on the country’s needs.

In the video, Gandhi posed a question to Kharge regarding the positives and negatives of campaigning. Kharge responded by emphasizing the inherent goodness in working for the betterment of the country, highlighting the satisfaction derived from countering forces detrimental to national interests.

During a conversation with Siddaramaiah, Gandhi delved into the significance of ideology versus power in politics. Siddaramaiah stressed the enduring importance of ideology, emphasizing its role in shaping policies and garnering public support. Kharge echoed this sentiment, underscoring the sacrifices made by leaders in upholding ideological principles.

In agreement, Gandhi emphasized the necessity for political organizations to adhere to a clear ideological framework, advocating for a pro-poor, pro-women, and inclusive approach. He asserted that political battles, whether at the organizational or national level, ultimately revolve around ideological principles.

Switching gears, Gandhi addressed a lighthearted inquiry regarding his preference for white T-shirts, a signature aspect of his attire during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Responding with characteristic simplicity, he attributed his choice to transparency and a lack of concern for fashion, preferring simplicity in clothing.

The Lok Sabha elections are set to proceed with the third phase scheduled for May 7, followed by subsequent phases on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. The election results are slated to be announced on June 4.

Kangana Ranaut Attacks Tejasvi Surya Mistaking Him For Tejashwi Yadav.

Kangana Ranaut Attacks Tejasvi Surya: The initial target should have been RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav since one of his films featuring him eating fish turned into a big point of contention between the opposition and the BJP recently.

Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut intended to target an opposition leader but mistakenly ended up attacking her BJP colleague instead. A similarity in names – Tejashwi and Tejasvi – was behind Ms Ranaut’s fumble. “There’s a party of spoilt princes… whether it’s Rahul Gandhi who wants to grow potatoes on the Moon, or Tejasvi Surya who does hooliganism and eats fish,” she had said.

RJD leader and former Bihar deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav was supposed to be the original target of her diatribe as one of his videos where he was seen eating fish became a major flashpoint between the BJP and the opposition recently.

Tejasvi Surya, incorrectly referred to by Ms Ranaut during an election rally yesterday, is BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bengaluru South constituency in Karnataka.

Meanwhile, Mr Yadav has responded to a clip of Kangana Ranaut’s statement. “Ye mohtarma kaun hai?” (Who is this lady?), he posted on X.

Kangana Ranaut has been verbally bashing the Congress party since the BJP fielded her as their Lok Sabha candidate from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. Congress leaders Vikramaditya Singh – her opponent in Mandi – and Rahul Gandhi have been the main targets on her dartboard.

While addressing a public rally in the Sundernagar area of Mandi Parliamentary Constituency yesterday, Ms. Ranaut took a jibe at Mr. Singh and Mr. Gandhi over dynasty politics and said that both of them have a magic stick for development and talk only about non-practical things.

The Congress hit back saying the 37-year-old actor should first check the facts about her party leaders and speak about dynastic politics. National Media Coordinator for the Congress, Amrit Kaur, also questioned her qualifications on which she got a BJP ticket from Mandi.

The Mandi Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on June 1, in the seventh phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
