Sergey Brin personally asked this Google employee to decline a job offer at Open AI!

The action taken by Sergey Brin is indicative of a wider pattern in which AI talent is being sought after by Big Tech organizations.

According to reports, Google cofounder Sergey Brin personally called a worker who was thinking about switching to OpenAI. According to The Information, which cited a “longtime AI researcher” as its source, Sergey Brin offered the employee more money during the call in an attempt to persuade them to remain in their position. The anonymous source claimed that the Google employee was a friend of theirs and that Sergey Brin’s action, which is part of a bigger pattern in Big Tech companies battling for AI expertise while the poll is still very tiny, reflects a larger trend. Nonetheless, the Big Tech industry is experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand for advanced AI expertise.

The AI plan of Mark Zuckerberg
Not just Google, but also other big tech firms are trying to pay exorbitant prices to each other to steal each other’s best employees. It has been revealed that Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, offered employment without interviews to AI researchers at Google’s DeepMind through personal emails. Mark Zuckerberg said in January that Nvidia’s highly sought-after H100 chips were in stock at Meta. By the end of 2024, he said to The Verge, Meta will have over 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs

Previously, Perplexity’s founder and CEO Aravind Srinivas claimed that his company’s lack of GPUs was the reason he was unable to hire a Meta employee.

“You know what they said when I attempted to hire a very senior researcher from Meta? “Return to me once you have ten thousand H100 GPUs,” he said.

Aravind Srinivas previously stated, “Don’t look at markets and decide, you know, don’t see, oh, the market wants a sales analyst product,” when discussing working in AI. I am going to construct it. Why design an AI for sales if you don’t even care about sales? The first person to use your product must be you, therefore create what you would use and what matters to you.”

IAF’s Tejas aircraft crashes near Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, pilot ejected safely!

Indian Air Force aircraft met with an accident in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer

IAF's Tejas aircraft crashes near Rajasthan's

An Indian Air Force aircraft met with an accident in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer on Tuesday. The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas of the Indian Air Force crashed near Jaisalmer during an operational training sortie. The pilot has ejected safely.

Reacting to the incident the Indian Air Force said in a statement, “One Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force met with an accident at Jaisalmer, today during an operational training sortie. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident.”

The recent crash marks the first incident involving the indigenous jet since its inaugural flight 23 years ago. The Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, a domestically produced supersonic aircraft utilized by the Indian military, is at the centre of this mishap. Initiated by the Government of India in 1984, the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program led to the establishment of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) to oversee its development. HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), India’s own aerospace company, spearheaded the design and development of the LCA Tejas. In 2003, the program was officially dubbed ‘Tejas,’ which translates to ‘radiance’ in Sanskrit, by then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is the second supersonic fighter jet developed by HAL (the first one being HAL HF-24 Marut).

Earlier last month, a Hawk trainer aircraft of the IAF met with an accident during a training sortie in West Bengal. The plane crashed in the civilian area near the Kalaikunda Air Force Station. However, there was no loss of life or damage to any civilian property. Both the pilots ejected safely.

Renowned jurist Fali S Nariman passes away at the age of 95!

Nariman received the Padma Bhushan in January 1991 and in 2007 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

Renowned constitutional jurist and senior Supreme Court advocate Fali S Nariman passed away at the age of 95 in New Delhi on Wednesday.

In November 1950, Nariman became an advocate of the Bombay High Court, later earning the designation of senior advocate in 1961. With over 70 years of legal practice, he initially worked in the High Court of Bombay before shifting to New Delhi in 1972 to practice in the Supreme Court of India. Additionally, he served as Additional Solicitor General of India from May 1972 onwards, following his move from Bombay to Delhi.

The veteran lawyer was also the President of the Bar Association of India from 1991 to 2010.

Nariman received the Padma Bhushan in January 1991 and in 2007 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

The veteran argued numerous significant cases, such as the NJAC verdict and the SC AoR Association case, which influenced the establishment of the collegium system. He also participated in cases like the TMA Pai case, addressing the extent of minority rights under Article 30. Notably, in June 1975, Nariman resigned as the Additional Solicitor General of India in opposition to the declaration of emergency by the Indira Gandhi government.

He served as the President of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration from 1994; the Vice-Chairman of the Internal Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 1989; and also the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva from 1995 to 1997; among several other prominent posts.

Nariman was a significant public voice in the country. Recently, he raised criticism against the judgement leading to the abrogation of Article 370.

In 2022, Nariman in his book, ‘You Must Know Your Constitution’, wrote, “The life of a written Constitution—like the life of the law—is not logic (or draftsmanship), but experience. Seventy-odd years of experience on this subcontinent has shown that it is easier to frame a Constitution than to work it….We will never be able to piece together a new Constitution in the present day and age simply because innovative ideas however brilliant and howsoever encouragingly expressed in consultation papers and reports of commissions, can never give us an ideal Constitution.”

He also spoke to HT, about the sedition law saying, “I am simply alarmed (and dismayed) by sedition remaining a part of the new law since it was always an oppressive colonial law that demanded not just mere obedience from the citizens to the orders of a foreign government but also insisted on citizens having an ‘affection’ for it. So when Gandhi ji was charged with sedition (as I have related in the book), he readily agreed and pleaded guilty to the charge since he had no ‘affection’ at all for the Government!”

An important test for the Marines’ underwater missile-delivery drone occurs this month!

On June 28, 2023, at Naval Air Station Point Mugu in California, U.S. Marines with Fox Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, fire a Naval Strike Missile from a Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System. (USMC Corps/Cpl. Earik Barton)

SAN DIEGO —The U.S. Marine Corps will put a new type of missile-delivery drone to the test in an operational scenario this month, following a year of developmental work, according to a senior service official.

Lt. Gen. Karsten Heckl, the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for combat development and integration, told reporters the service had been working on two autonomous, low-profile vessels, which resemble drug runners’ semi-submersible boats seen in Central America. The boats are designed to carry two Naval Strike Missiles to Marine units ashore, stealthily delivering their payload without attracting any attention.

“They’re very, very hard — if not downright impossible — to track,” Heckl told reporters after speaking on a panel at the WEST 2024 conference here hosted by the U.S. Naval Institute an AFCEA International. That is because the boats produce almost no wake while gliding through the water, he explained.

After working with a “mom and pop shop” to design and build the two craft, Heckl said the Marine Corps has demonstrated it can launch and recover them from the Navy’s Expeditionary Fast Transport vessels and the Marines’ Stern Landing Vessels.

This month, the Marines will demonstrate the full evolution of using these boats to resupply Marines ashore with the missiles they need to fire at ships from land.

Heckl said the boats will play a role in the Army-led Project Convergence Capstone 4 event in California, featuring in a “multi-domain mobility corridor” phase of the exercise designed to test equipment for resupply and logistics missions.

Service tests so far have been “very successful,” he added, describing the price tag as so low that the craft can be deemed expendable if lost. If the Marine Corps does decide to pursue buying these in larger numbers, however, Heckl said the service will have to find a bigger contractor for production.

Mobile Services Suspended in Pakistan due to Security threats!

Mobile Services Suspended in Pakistan

Islamabad, Feb 8 (PTI) Mobile services in Pakistan have been suspended due to the “deteriorating security situation”, the caretaker government said on Thursday as the people were voting to elect a new administration, a day after twin terror attacks killed at least 30 people.

The interior ministry said it has decided to “temporarily suspend mobile services across the country” in light of the “deteriorating security situation”.

In a statement, the ministry said, “Recent surge in terrorist activities resulting in precious lives have stirred the security environment in the country.”

Therefore, it added, “need has arisen to take measures to safeguard against” security threats.

Meanwhile, voters across Pakistan on Thursday began voting in the general elections to elect a new government to rule the cash-strapped country.

The polling started at 8.00 AM and will continue without any break till 5.00 PM. A countrywide public holiday has been declared to enable a total of 128,585,760 registered voters to cast their votes.

Mobile services have been suspended across the country and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) 8300 SMS service has also been affected, ARY News reported.

Reports showed that phone services were affected in some cities including Karachi and Peshawar.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, commenting on the suspension of the internet and cellular services, said the ECP would not ask the ministry for the revival of the services.

Raja on Wednesday talked to the chief secretaries and inspectors general of police (IGPs) of the four provinces and directed them to keep security on high alert to ensure the security of voters.

This comes as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday evening said internet services would remain functional on Thursday.

The PTA in a statement said it had not yet received any instructions from the government to shut internet and that services would work without any interruption on Thursday.

Caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz had on Tuesday hinted at the possible suspension of internet services in case of security issues in any area on election day.

Amid recent terrorist attacks plaguing the nation and claiming numerous lives, the government temporarily suspended mobile services across the country as a proactive measure to maintain peace and order amidst potential threats.

Mobile Services Suspended in Pakistan

The decision to suspend mobile services was announced on Thursday by the Interior Ministry, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the necessity for stringent security measures.

“This step aims to disrupt any potential communication channels utilised by terrorist elements, thereby aiding law enforcement agencies in their efforts to thwart any planned attacks and safeguard innocent lives,” Samaa TV quoted a ministry spokesperson as saying.

Many non-governmental organisations, including Amnesty International, had called for uninterrupted internet access across the country during the polling process.

In an open letter, Amnesty International urged the authorities to guarantee uninterrupted access to the internet and digital communication platforms for everyone across Pakistan throughout the polling process.

“We, the undersigned organisations and members of the #KeepItOn coalition – a global network of over 300 organisations from 105 countries working to end internet shutdowns – appeal to you, Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, to publicly commit to ensuring that the people of Pakistan have unfettered access to the internet, social media platforms, and all other communication channels throughout the upcoming general election on February 8, 2024,” the London-based NGO said.

It noted as people prepared to vote, the authorities must adopt and prioritise measures that advanced rights by enabling unrestricted access to information and avenues for freedom of expression, assembly, and association – both offline and online.

In a related development, the Sindh High Court on Tuesday, yet again, directed the federal authorities concerned to ensure the provision of smooth, uninterrupted internet service and access to social media platforms unless the relevant laws were invoked till February 21.

In an increasingly digital world, our reliance on the internet has grown exponentially. From managing our finances and shopping to staying connected on social media, our lives are intricately woven into the online fabric. While the benefits are immense, so too are the associated risks. Cyber threats and attacks loom large, targeting not just businesses, but individuals. The question is: Are you prepared for the unexpected? Do you have a safeguard for your digital assets? Here’s why investing in individual cyber insurance is not just a prudent choice; it’s a necessity.

Guarding against digital threats

Consider this: In the bustling streets of Mumbai, countless individuals engage in online transactions daily, managing their finances, sharing personal information, and living their lives through the web. However, the convenience of the digital age comes with a hazard – vulnerability. Cyber fraud, identity theft, malware attacks, and data breaches are lurking around the corner, waiting to disrupt our lives.

One of the recent cases that we analysed was that of a young professional Rahul living in a non-metropolitan city. What began with him receiving an innocent-looking email, turned out to be a phishing attack. Before he knew it, his hard-earned money had vanished from his bank account. The financial loss was devastating, but what hit Rahul the hardest was the emotional turmoil that followed. The feeling of violation, the stress, and the fear of subsequent attacks were overwhelming. These perils do not discriminate; they can impact anyone, regardless of age or profession.

Fortunately, the young man had invested in an individual cyber insurance policy. It not only helped him get indemnified for the stolen funds but also offered support and counselling to help him cope with the emotional trauma.

That’s why it’s the need of the hour for you to consider purchasing a cyber insurance policy, designed to protect you from these digital threats.

Looking closely at what we gain from cyber insurance

Now, let’s dive deeper into the benefits of individual cyber insurance. It’s not just about financial protection; it’s about preserving your peace of mind. Some of its key advantages are cited here below:

Financial protection: The financial consequences of a cyber attack can be devastating. Whether it’s funds drained from your account, legal expenses, or data recovery costs, cyber insurance cushions you from these financial blows.

Identity theft recovery: Identity theft is a nightmare scenario. It can damage your financial well-being and tarnish your social image/reputation. Cyber insurance ensures you have the financial support to reclaim your identity and rebuild what’s been lost.

India Canada Economic Relations

By uniting Canadian innovation with Indian ingenuity, the delegation led by ICCC President Murarilal Thapliyal shall strive to take the Indo-Canada trade bonhomie to unprecedented heights.
With the intention of fostering a deeper understanding between the two nations, Indo- Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) President Murarilal Thapliyal, a Canadian lawyer and renowned Indo-Canadian community leader, has pledged to give significant emphasis on Canada-India commercial relations. A 12-day Canadian delegation to India between 29th January and 9th February 2024, aims to strengthen business to business (B2B) relations between India and Canada, thereby laying a foundation to increase bilateral trade with shared interests.
Thapiyal elaborated, “We are trying to bridge the gap between India and Canada. Trade and business should not suffer because the economy depends on it. We want to take one step ahead to improve the relationship.”
The esteemed delegates of “India Mission 2024” will head to six major cities (in six different states) stretching across the vast economic canvas of India — Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Dispur, Chandigarh, and Dehradun. This delegation shall feature many distinguished investors, trailblazing entrepreneurs, hoteliers, realtors, tourism pundits, lawyers, and professionals from the education and technology sectors, who will meet with Indian trailblazers from different domains under the theme — “Uniting Canadian innovation with Indian ingenuity.”

Our goal is to be a catalyst for future growth and prosperity in both nations. We are committed to exploring new frontiers and deepening our existing relationships.”
Catalyzing Change For A Collaborative Future
The key to any successful bilateral trade relationship is a history of trust and companionship. India and Canada have been witnessing to each other’s growing economic synergy for decades. Data suggests that more than 600 Canadian companies and organizations have a considerable presence in India, and many more are actively pursuing business opportunities here. The bilateral commercial relationships between the two countries stand at USD 100 billion, 70% of which is Canadian portfolio investment into India. It is also worth mentioning that almost 6% of overseas Indians have found their home in Canada — making the country the fourth largest source of foreign tourists in India!
By focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and technological advancement, the ICCC wants to leave no stone unturned in its bid to take Canada-India trade to unprecedented heights. ‘India Mission 2024’ is a step in that direction.

Legacy Of ICCC:

Aditya-L1 successfully reaches its final orbit on the solar mission; PM Modi calls it “yet another landmark.”

The Aditya-L1 spacecraft, India’s first solar mission, has successfully entered the final orbit, its desired destination from where it will make observations of the Sun for the next five years.

Aditya-L1 has successfully been inserted into the Larange Point 1, one of the five locations in the Earth-Sun system where the gravitational effects of the two roughly cancel each other out. It is a relatively stable point for a spacecraft to be parked, and make observations of the Sun.

Terming it as yet another landmark achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi , in a post on X, said, “India’s first solar observatory Aditya-L1 reaches it destination. It is a testament to the relentless dedication of our scientists in realising among the most complex and intricate space missions. I join the nation in applauding this extraordinary feat. We will continue to pursue new frontiers of science for the benefit of humanity.”

Getting into the orbit around L1 is not the same as attaining an orbit around any other planetary body, and is being considered the most important challenge in this mission. The spacecraft will spend the rest of its mission life “orbiting around L1 in an irregularly-shaped orbit in a plane roughly perpendicular to the line joining the Earth and the Sun,” an ISRO scientist said.

Lagrange Points are relatively stable positions but not entirely free from pulls and pressures. However, these are still preferred locations for space missions intending to observe and study the Sun.
