CMT Music Awards: The song was appropriately performed by the singer-songwriter in Texas Moody Center, where she also unexpectedly disclosed that it was her “first time in Austin.”
On Sunday night (April 7), Dasha sang her viral hit song “Austin” at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. She candidly stated that it was her first time visiting the place that inspired the song.
At the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, the singer/songwriter debuted the song live on television while decked up in double denim, a zip-up jean vest, and daisy dukes with a bejeweled belt that featured a rhinestone D belt buckle. Dasha and her dancers were accompanied by dancers dressed in white shirts and denim or camo pants. The song’s flawless line-dancing speed has been one of its main draws, so it was appropriate that they broke into a line dance in the middle of the song to honor its unexpected success.
She concluded the performance by saying, “I want to thank the CMTs for believing in me.” “This is my first visit to Austin!”
Fans of the song may find the last revelation a little unexpected, given the Texas town’s significance to the storyline of the song. The California-born singer sings, “I made my way back to LA and that’s where you’ll be forgotten.” “You’ll still be here, drunk, and washed up in Austin in forty years.”
When Tetris Kelly of Billboard News asked Dasha what about Austin inspired her, she responded, “Actually, this is my first time in Austin,” on the red carpet before Sunday’s show. “I’m performing ‘Austin’ live at the CMTs for the first time!”
Dasha’s first Hot 100 Billboard hit, “Austin,” peaked at No. 53 on the current week’s chart. This week, the song debuts at No. 54 on Hot Country Songs and reaches its No. 11 high. It also becomes her first Country Airplay hit. The news that the once-independent singer had inked a label deal with Warner Records was first reported by Billboard late last month.
