CSK vs. PBKS: MS Dhoni

  • MS Dhoni hit 14 off 11 balls, including 10 in the final over
  • In a move that shocked many, Dhoni denied a strike to Daryl Mitchell in the final over
  • Dhoni was dismissed for the first time in the IPL 2024 season on Wednesday

Tomorrow IPL 2024: SRH vs RR – who’ll win Hyderabad vs Rajasthan clash? Fantasy team, pitch report, and more.

Occasionally during the 2024 season, MS Dhoni was criticized for what he did in the last over of an IPL match. Dhoni was questioned regarding his choice to dismiss Daryl Mitchell, one of the world’s most powerful ball strikers, during the last over of CSK’s innings against PBKS on Wednesday, May 1, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

In the 20th over, MS Dhoni was challenged with three dot balls from Arshdeep Singh. Dhoni opened the over with a boundary through the covers, but the left-arm bowler hit a few slower balls that he was unable to connect with. Dhoni blasted a ball into deep cover in the third legitimate delivery of the last over, but he failed to take a single, giving Daryl Mitchell the opportunity to strike.

It was comical as Daryl Mitchell ran all the way to the striker’s end before he was sent back by MS Dhoni. There was ample time for the two batters to take two runs, but Dhoni looked adamant about not giving the strike away in the final over. Much to the delight of the Punjab bowlers, Dhoni failed to connect after Arshdeep bowled a slower one.

However, Dhoni made amends by hitting a huge six into the stands in the cover region in the penultimate delivery of the over to take the score past 160. He was run-out in the final delivery, getting dismissed for the first time in the IPL 2024 season.

Despite Dhoni getting 14 off 11 in a cameo, the former CSK captain was questioned for denying strike to Daryl Mitchell, who is part of New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad.

It was a strange evening for Super Kings and their think tank as Daryl Mitchell, whom they bought for Rs 14 crore, was sent into bat at No. 8 on a pitch that could have helped his style of play.

Shivam Dube getting out for a duck did not help CSK’s cause as their middle-order push went missing. Thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 48-ball 62, CSK posted a total that gave something for their bowlers to work with.

The inaugural match of the IPL 2024 will take place on March 22 at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai, between the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The explosive batter cleared the air over Virat Kohli’s prolonged absence from the Indian team on February 19, when he announced the birth of his second child.
Having been selected for the Indian team for the first two Test matches, Kohli withdrew, leaving himself out of the remaining three.

The BCCI also respected Kohli’s decision and asked the media to give Kohli privacy.

However, India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a massive comment during a Star Sports promotional event. His comment came as a major heartbreak for the Kohli fans.

Gavaskar questioned on Monday whether the top hitter would participate in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Shaayad ho sakta hai ke IPL ke liye bhi na khele (Will he play…), kuchh cause ke liye khel nahin rahe hain. For some reason, he’s not playing. When asked whether Kohli would be hungry for runs in the IPL as he would be making his comeback to action following a lengthy sabbatical, Gavaskar responded rather cheekily, “Perhaps he may not play in the IPL as well.”

On March 22 at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai, the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the IPL 2024.
Notably, RCB will be trying to win the championship this year, and as usual, Kohli’s play will be essential to the team’s success.
