The AAP claimed that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were preparing an attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

A 32-year-old man has been taken into custody by the Delhi Police on suspicion of threatening Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with graffiti at a metro station.

The police said that on Monday, they found threats scribbled on the walls of Rajiv Chowk and Patel Nagar Metro stations, and an FIR was registered in the case. The accused, Ankit Goyal, has been arrested from Bareilly and is being interrogated.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, alleging they were plotting to attack chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh claimed  that the alleged conspiracy to target Kejriwal originated from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The BJP has been in a frenzy since Arvind Kejriwal’s release from prison. Right now, the BJP is preparing to strike Arvind Kejriwal with deadly intent. The prime minister’s office is the direct source of this plot. At the Metro stations in Rajiv Chowk and Patel Nagar, there is a danger of violence against Kejriwal ji, according to Sanjay Singh.

Despite the fact that these stations have security guards and CCTV cameras, Atishi, another senior leader, claimed that pictures of the menacing graffiti have been making the rounds on social media, raising concerns about the police and Cyber Cell’s lack of response.

“The images of the graffiti have also been uploaded on social media. These stations are under CCTVs and security personnel are posted round-the-clock. Why are the police not acting on it? Where is the Cyber Cell? This shows that this is being orchestrated by the BJP,” Atishi had alleged.

Sambit Patra, a BJP leader and the party’s candidate for the Puri Lok Sabha constituency, intentionally stirred up controversy when a careless comment he made about Lord Jagannath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral.

In the widely shared video, Patra is heard declaring that Lord Jagannath is PM Modi’s bhakt (devotee) while speaking to a private Odia station.

“Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannatha is the Lord of Universe,” declared Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha and the leader of the ruling Biju Janata Dal, in response to the film. It is an affront to the Lord to refer to Mahaprabhu as a follower of another person. Across the world, this has offended and denigrated the beliefs of millions of Odias and Jagannatha bhaktas.”

Calling Lord Jagannath the greatest symbol of Odia asmita (pride), Patnaik denounced Patra’s statement.

“By this you have deeply hurt Odia Asmita and this will be remembered and condemned by the people of Odisha for a very long time,” he said.

Later, Sambit Patra clarified his remarks, emphasising that it was a slip of tongue.

Replying to Naveen Patnaik’s post on X, Sambit Patra wrote, “Naveen Ji Namaskar! I gave number of bytes today to multiple media channels after the massive success of Shri Narendra Modiji’s Road Show in Puri today, everywhere I mentioned that Modi ji is an ardent “Bhakt” of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu. By mistake during one of the bytes I pronounced just the opposite. I know you too know and understand this.”

“Sir, let’s not make an issue out of a nonexistent issue. We all have ‘slip of tongue’ sometimes. Thanks and Pranam,” he added.

In a video on X, Patra said he would fast for three days to repent for his mistake.

“Today, I am deeply troubled by the mistake I have made regarding Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath Ji,” a rough translation of Patra’s post in Hindi read.

“I bow down at the feet of Mahaprabhu Sri Jagannath Ji and beg for forgiveness. I will be fasting for the next three days to correct my mistake and repent,” he added.

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal also criticised Patra, calling his remark an “insult to God”.

“I strongly condemn this statement of BJP. They have started thinking that they are above God. This is height of arrogance. Calling God bhakt of Modi ji is an insult to God,” he said.

The Congress also hit out at the BJP over Patra’s remark. “BJP leader Sambit Patra says that Mahaprabhu Lord Shri Jagannath is a devotee of Narendra Modi. This is a grave insult to Mahaprabhu. This statement has hurt the faith of crores of devotees. Sambit Patra, who is immersed in Modi Bhakti, should not have committed this sin. Narendra Modi himself should apologize for this disgusting statement,” a post on party’s X handle read.

Swati Maliwal Case: ‘Slapped 7-8 Times, Kicked in Chest, Stomach’, FIR Details Against Arvind Kejriwal’s PA Bibhav Kumar.

Swati Maliwal detailed a harrowing account, accusing Mr Kumar of slapping her 7-8 times on the face and hitting her chest, stomach, and sensitive parts.

Slapped, dragged, and kicked in the chest – AAP leader Swati Maliwal’s complaint against Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, raises serious charges of assault. Ms. Maliwal claims that on Monday morning, she was assaulted by Mr. Kumar in the drawing room of the Chief Minister’s official residence, with Mr. Kejriwal present in the house at the time.

In the FIR filed last night, Ms Maliwal said she arrived at Arvind Kejriwal’s home at 6, Flag Staff Road, Civil Lines, and attempted to contact the chief minister’s aide but received no response. She said she informed the staff of her presence and was asked to wait in the drawing room.

She alleged that while she was waiting, Bibhav Kumar burst into the room and started verbally abusing her. Ms Maliwal gave harrowing details, accusing Mr Kumar of slapping her seven times on the face and hitting her chest, stomach, and sensitive parts. “Bibhav came and started abusing and kept slapping without provocation,” Ms Maliwal claimed in her complaint. “I made noise and said ‘Let me go’, but he kept beating me continuously and abusing me in Hindi. He threatened, ‘We will see, we will deal with it’. I informed him that I was menstruating and in considerable pain, begging him to leave me alone.”

“I felt absolutely shocked and was screaming for help over and over again. In order to protect myself, I pushed him away with my legs. At that time, he pounced on me, brutally dragged and deliberately pulled my shirt up,” the FIR reads. “Bibhav Kumar did not relent and attacked me by kicking me in my chest, stomach and pelvis area with his legs.”

Ms Maliwal added in her complaint that she managed to run out of the house and call the police.

“I was in a terrible state of shock at this attack. I was deeply traumatised and called the 112 number and reported the incident,” Mr Maliwal stated in the FIR.

When the security personnel arrived, instead of assisting Ms Maliwal, they allegedly followed Mr Kumar’s instruction to throw her out. Despite her condition, she was forced to leave and wait outside the Chief Minister’s residence until the police arrived.

“Bibhav came back with the security personnel working at the main gate. I kept telling them that I was brutally beaten up and they should look at my condition and wait until the police comes but they asked me to leave the premises,” Ms Maliwal’s statement reads.

Late last night, Delhi Police escorted Ms Maliwal to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for a medical checkup. When the police reached Mr Kumar’s residence in the Chandrawal Nagar area of the national capital, he was missing. Teams from the Crime Branch and Special Cell are looking for Mr Kumar, aiming to bring him into custody.

The Delhi Police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, insulting modesty, and assault. The FIR was filed after Ms Maliwal’s statement was recorded by a police team led by Additional Commissioner PS Kushwaha.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped into the controversy, summoning Mr Kumar for a hearing today.

Following the police visit, Ms Maliwal posted on social media about the distressing experience and appealed against politicising the issue.

“What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope that appropriate action will be taken. The last few days have been very difficult for me. I thank those who prayed for me. Those who tried to do character assassination said that I was doing it on the instructions of a party. May God keep them happy too. An important election is underway in the country. Swati Maliwal is not important, the issues of the country are important. There is a special request to the BJP to not do politics on this incident,” Ms Maliwal posted last night.

Mamata Banerjee, “PART OF INDIA” “You should not trust,” Adhir Ranjan says.

The incident has triggered a political storm. The BJP has heavily criticized Mr Kejriwal for his silence, with its spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia even going as far as labeling Mr. Kejriwal the “main criminal” due to his apparent inaction during the assault.

Mr Kejriwal deflected questions regarding the incident during a press conference in Lucknow yesterday, where he appeared alongside Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Mr Singh, addressing the press, acknowledged Mr Kumar’s misconduct and deflected criticism towards the BJP, demanding accountability for various women’s issues under their governance.

The Congress, allied with AAP in the opposition INDIA bloc for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, echoed similar calls.

Kapil Sibal calls Amit Shah’s Bail Statement to Kejriwal “Objectionable.”

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday hit out at Home Minister Amit Shah over his reported “special treatment” remarks on the interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying it was an “objectionable statement” that questioned the intention of the Supreme Court judges.

Sibal’s remarks came after Shah while referring to the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court to Kejriwal, reportedly said many in the country believed he was given special treatment.

The Supreme Court on Thursday steered clear of the political talk about it has made an exception for Kejriwal in granting him interim bail for campaigning in the Lok Sabha polls but said: “critical analysis of the judgment is welcome”.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Sibal said, “Shah has made an objectionable statement and questioned the intention of the Supreme Court judges.”
Shah has stated very cleverly that many people are saying the Supreme Court’s decision to grant interim bail to Kejriwal in the excise policy case is akin to him getting special treatment, he added.

“He (Shah) has said ‘people are saying’. If people are saying and you don’t believe in it, then why say it? If people say and you believe it, then only you have made the statement,” said Sibal, who is also a senior advocate.

Sibal said it is important to spell out the laws in light of the statement.

“If someone is convicted but gets a stay from the court, he or she can file a nomination and get elected. If there is a charge sheet against anyone, a person can campaign and also file a nomination, like Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is doing,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

“One who just has allegations against him cannot campaign, what kind of a statement is this?” Sibal said, hitting out at Shah.

He probably does not know the law, otherwise he would not have made the statement, Sibal said.

Slamming Shah, Sibal said, “He (Shah) says ‘if we win 400 seats, we will take back PoK’. What if you don’t get that many seats, won’t you take back PoK? We want you to take it back. Firstly, you should take back those 4,000 kilometers that China has taken away…”
Asked about the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at Kejriwal’s residence, Sibal said, “Why is he (Shah) worried about this (Maliwal assault case)? It’s an internal matter of AAP. You think about Prajwal (Revanna), why don’t you give statements on that? That is the internal matter of JD(S), you are silent there and the prime minister is also silent.

All release orders received daily in Tihar Jail are processed in about 1 hour. In such a situation, there is a possibility that Arvind Kejriwal will be released from jail today.

Arrested by ED on March 21

ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal on March 21. ED officials raided Kejriwal’s house. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED officials after a few hours of interrogation. At that time, Aam Aadmi Party workers took to the streets and staged aggressive protests. In the interim, Kejriwal had tried to get bail. However, they were not successful. But now, Arvind Kejriwal will be out of jail ahead of the Delhi Lok Sabha elections as the Supreme Court has granted him interim bail. This is considered a big relief for Aam Aadmi Party.

ED opposes Kejriwal’s bail

The Delhi Chief Minister had filed a petition in the court seeking interim bail for the Lok Sabha election campaign. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the Delhi liquor policy case. It was said that Kejriwal, who is in ED custody, should get bail to participate in the election campaign. However, the investigating agency had already opposed granting bail to the AAP chief. It said that giving bail to Kejriwal would send the wrong message. He cannot be treated as a special person. However, a bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta granted bail to Kejriwal after hearing the arguments.

Earlier the court had said it would hear arguments for temporary bail for Mr Arvind Kejriwal to allow him to campaign for his party in the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

The Supreme Court has not yet returned its decision on interim bail for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 over money laundering charges linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.

Earlier the court had said Mr Kejriwal is “not a habitual offender”, as it heard arguments for the grant of interim bail for the Delhi Chief Minister.

The top court – which is hearing the larger matter of Mr Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest – had earlier said it would consider bail for the AAP leader to allow him to campaign for his party in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. Delhi – which has seven Lok Sabha seats, all of which were won by the BJP in the last election – votes in a single phase on May 25.

The court began by observing that Arvind Kejriwal is the “elected Chief Minister” of the national capital. “There are elections… these are extraordinary circumstances and he is not a habitual offender,” a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta said.

“If elections were not there… there would be no question of interim bail,” Justice Datta noted, after his colleague said, “This is a question of proprietary… of public interest.”

However, the court also had words of warning for Mr Kejriwal, as it took note of the Enforcement Directorate’s allegations that the Chief Minister played a key role in formulating the liquor excise policy. “… suppose we release you, and you are allowed to participate in elections, you will (also) be performing official duties… it can have cascading effects,” the court noted, referring to Mr. Kejriwal’s involvement in issues of governance.

To this, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Mr. Kejriwal, stressed his client would “not be dealing with anything (connected to) this excise case”.

“We make it clear… we don’t want you to be performing official duties if we release you…” the court reiterated, “We don’t want any interference in the functioning of government.”

Mr. Singhvi then assured the court Mr. Kejriwal would offer a statement to the effect that he would “not sign any files”, so long as Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena “may not stop any work on the ground that I have not signed any file”.

The reference was to ongoing spats between Delhi’s AAP government and the LG, with the former accusing the latter of being instigated by the BJP to interfere in matters outside of his jurisdiction.

Earlier the ED told the court it opposes bail. Appearing for the central agency, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju argued that releasing the AAP leader would set a bad example.

“What example are we setting? Are other people less important…? There can’t be any deviation only because he is a Chief Minister. Are we carving out exceptions for politicians? Is campaigning for elections more important?” the ED’s lawyer said in court.

To this the court acknowledged it “certainly does not want that politicians who are involved in crimes be treated differently”, but also pointed out the larger picture – that Mr Kejriwal was arrested just weeks before the 2024 Lok Sabha election was to begin.

The AAP leader’s camp has argued this point – that the timing of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest was meant to throw off the party’s poll plans and “destroy AAP before a single vote is cast”.

The court also acknowledged the argument Mr Kejriwal was arrested after evading multiple summons to join its investigation. “… this (getting bail) will send a wrong message and demoralize common man… that (Arvind Kejriwal) gets luxury of campaigning…” the ED said.

“We have understood your objection. Please make your arguments (against) interim bail. We will hear you… he has avoided summons nine times… understood,” Justice Khanna had said.

Bharadwaj gave assurance that Raghav Chadha’s dedication to the campaign is unwavering, even in light of his health issues. He promised to return shortly, prepared to help the party in its endeavors.

According to Bharadwaj, Chadha, the AAP member of the Rajya Sabha, could as well have lost his sight.

As per the report, this condition, characterized by the development of small holes in the retina, is extremely dangerous for vision and needs to be treated right away to avoid permanent damage.

AAP leader Chadha has been conspicuously absent from recent political events. His absence has been felt, especially during a time when the party has faced several difficulties, such as the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the party’s national convenor in connection with the Liquor Policy Scam.

But in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha Elections, Chadha has been sharing remarks from Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, and news conferences from the AAP on social media.

After meeting British Labour politician Preet Kaur Gill, who is well-known for her “advocacy of Khalistan separatism” and anti-India views on social media, during his visit to the UK last month, Chadha found himself in a heated situation.

Chadha’s wife, actor Parineeti Chopra, was back in India ahead of the release of her Netflix movie Amar Singh Chamkila; the AAP leader stayed in London.

Parineeti Chopra says she decided to marry Raghav Chadha without knowing if he was already married, or had kids.

Chadha is among AAP’s 40-star campaigners; jailed leaders Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Satyendar Jain are also on the list. The AAP is contesting the Lok Sabha Election in Delhi, Haryana, and Gujarat in alliance with the Congress party. In Punjab, where AAP is in power, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party is contesting the elections for 13 seats on its own.

Kejriwal says ‘My arrest classic case of how…’ in affidavit to Supreme Court.

According to Kejriwal, his “illegal arrest” during a campaign will give the ruling party in the Center an unfair advantage.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has responded to the Enforcement Directorate’s affidavit in the Supreme Court, stating that his arrest is a classic example of how the central government, led by the ruling party, has abused the ED and the PMLA to destroy the Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders, which is its largest political rival. “During an election cycle when political activity is at its highest, the petitioner’s (Kejriwal) illegal arrest has caused grave prejudice to the petitioner’s political party and will provide the ruling party at the Centre an unjust upper hand in the ongoing elections,” the reply said.

According to LiveLaw, Kejriwal stated in his response, “A level-playing field — which is a pre-requisite for ‘free and fair elections’ — has been compromised with the illegal arrest of the petitioner.”

There has been no proof or material to show that AAP received funds or advanced kickbacks from the South group — let alone utilizing them in the Goa election campaign, the chief minister said adding that not a single rupee was traced back to the AAP and ED’s allegations have no tangible evidence.

In its affidavit to the Supreme Court, the ED stated that Kejriwal’s actions convinced the investigating officer that he was guilty of money laundering. March 21 saw Kejriwal’s detention in connection with a money-laundering case involving the liquor policy of Delhi. So far in the case, Kejriwal has not received any legal redress.

The Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal’s plea challenging the arrest and said Kejriwal’s arrest can’t be deemed illegal as there was no contravention of the law. Kejriwal approached the Supreme Court against the high court order. The top court, on April 15, sought a response from the ED on Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest.

“Even on the date of the search during his interrogation, while recording his statement under Section 17 of the PMLA, he was avoiding answering questions by being evasive and non-co-operative even for simple non-incriminating questions,” the ED said.
