Sam Pitroda favors succession taxes in India and claims that Congress is “distributing wealth in the interest of people.”

Along with declaring that wealth distribution is solely a “policy issue,” Mr. Pitroda expressed concern for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in light of his comments regarding the Congress agenda.

Sam Pitroda, the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, has supported the party’s stance on wealth redistribution and pushed for the implementation of an inheritance tax law in the nation.

Mr. Pitroda expounded on the notion of inheritance tax that is already in place in the United States, highlighting the necessity of policies aimed at redistributing wealth. “There is an inheritance tax in the United States. If a person is worth $100 million, the government will likely take over 55% of his estate and only be able to provide approximately 45% to his surviving offspring. What a fascinating law that is. It says that because you are leaving your generation and have amassed a fortune, you must leave half of your wealth—not all of it—to the public, which seems fair to me, Mr. Pitroda said.

PM Modi calls the Congress’s plan for equality a “dangerous game.”

You don’t have that in India. When a person with a $10 billion net worth passes away, his children inherit $10 billion while the general public receives nothing. People will thus need to discuss and debate these kinds of topics. Redistributing wealth refers to new laws and initiatives that serve the interests of the general public rather than just the very wealthy, the speaker continued.

‘Have concerns about PM’s brain’

Mr. Pitroda also said that the subject of wealth distribution is strictly a ‘policy issue’ and he feels concerned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he remarks on the Congress manifesto.

“This is a policy issue. The Congress party would frame a policy through which the wealth distribution would be better. We don’t have a minimum wage (in India). If we come up with a minimum wage in the country saying you must pay so much money to the poor, that’s the distribution of wealth. Today, rich people don’t pay their peons, servants, and home help enough but they spend that money on vacation in Dubai and London… When you talk about the distribution of wealth, it is not that you sit on a chair and say I have this much money and I’ll be distributing it to everybody,” Pitroda said.

To believe that way is naive. That is how a nation’s prime minister thinks. When questioned about the Prime Minister’s critique of the Congress platform, he responded, “I have some concerns about his brain.”

The Congress manifesto has drawn criticism from Prime Minister Modi and the BJP, who claim it smells like appeasement and that, should it win, it would redistribute wealth and provide Muslims reservations from the quota for the SC, ST, and OCB communities.

Rajnath Singh criticizes the Sachar Committee findings and the Congress, saying, “Counting Muslims in.”

Pitroda also conveyed his dissatisfaction with Mr. Modi’s comparison of the Congress manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections to a “poll document of the erstwhile ‘Muslim League'”. Pitroda described the Prime Minister as a “pathological liar” and expressed his shame at him.

“I feel bad for them, and I find it amazing that they would say something so false. EC. The Muslim League is unrelated to this manifesto. My Prime Minister has made me humiliated. About the manifesto, his crew is telling lies. He lies like a disease. How can they feel at ease while lying through their teeth? Mr. Pitroda said to ANI.

Attacking the Prime Minister for his recent remark about “those who have more children,” Mr. Pitroda claimed that the BJP’s dread of what would happen after the first round of polls had caused them to make these kinds of remarks.”How could you disparage our women? It’s not like Muslims are having more kids. While PM Modi has the freedom to say anything he wants, he also has moral obligations. The law does not exempt him. It appears that you are unable to understand; I believe this could be the result of anxiety, as panic kicked in following the initial stage. The PM’s remark has infuriated India,” he declared.

Amit Shah argues that ‘penetration continues unabated’ and accuses Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of impeding refugee citizenship.

According to Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee’s opposition to the CAA is keeping refugees from obtaining Indian citizenship. He asked Bengali citizens to back the BJP in 2024 so that the TMC government could put an end to the continuous infiltration.

Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed on Tuesday that Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is preventing refugees from obtaining Indian citizenship by opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Speaking at a roadshow in Malda South, Shah urged Bengalis to support the saffron party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, claiming that under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) administration, infiltration was still ongoing in the state and that the only way to stop it was to vote for the BJP.

“Under the government of the Trinamool Congress, infiltration is still happening. Mamata Didi is against the CAA and is against granting citizenship to refugees. “Vote for the BJP if you want to stop corruption and infiltration,” he said.

BJP mega Hanuman Chalisa recitation events across 13,000 polling booths on Hanuman Janmotsav.

Amit Shah, the senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister, conducted a roadshow in Malda, West Bengal, on Tuesday, weeks before the district’s Lok Sabha elections.

The Head Post Office More to the Rabindra statue was the starting point of the Malda South tour. Shah was spotted waving at the throng while standing on a decorated lorry with state BJP leaders.

As hundreds of people gathered on both sides of the road, BJP supporters yelled chants endorsing Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah declared at the Karandighi gathering that neither Mamata Banerjee nor the Congress could “dare to interfere” with CAA.

Under the CAA, undocumented migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who landed in India before December 31, 2014, are granted citizenship, except for Muslims.

Cut money culture and corruption in Bengal must end, according to the Union Minister in Karandighi, adding that “TMC cannot do it.”

“We aim to secure 35 Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal,” Shah continued.

On May 7, the third round of Lok Sabha elections will take place in the Malda South seat.

On the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav on Tuesday, the Delhi BJP will conduct a mass reading of the Hanuman Chalisa throughout the 13,000 polling places in the nation’s capital. At the booths, the Hanuman Chalisa recitation will start at 6:00 p.m.

All of the MP candidates running for the national capital will be present at various sites in Delhi, along with State President Virendra Sachdeva, organization general secretary Pawan Rana, and election coordinator Om Prakash Dhankhar for the Lok Sabha.

“On April 23, the auspicious day of Shri Hanuman Janmotsav, Delhi BJP activists are arranging a recital of the Hanuman Chalisa at 5:30 p.m. at all of the booths in Delhi. I kindly ask everyone in Delhi to participate in the sacred recital of the Hanuman Chalisa. The basic values of humanity—truth, courage, dedication, and service—are inspired by Hanuman ji, Sachdeva wrote on X.

In his greetings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished everyone a happy Hanuman Janmotsav.

Arvind Kejriwal and K Kavitha’s judicial custody in the excise policy case is extended by the Delhi court until May 7.

Removed Art. 370, BJP will now win 370 seats

The ambitious goal set by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is to win 370 seats in the Lok Sabha by 2024, which is 67 seats more than they did in 2019. This will enable it to surpass the 400 mark, another ambitious goal for its National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The BJP has won 282 and 303 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019, respectively.

The objective of 370 has been associated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the repeal of Article 370 in the former state of J&K. Not long after seizing power again in August 2019, the Modi administration removed Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted the former state special status.

“370 is not just a number for the BJP,” Modi declared in February, speaking to a gathering of the party’s national office-bearers. It represents a deep emotion. In order to maintain the unity and integrity of our country, Mookerjee offered the ultimate sacrifice for the repeal of Article 370. The BJP ought to win 370 seats as a fitting homage to him.”

Though the NDA is expected to win the polls handily, the figure highlights the BJP’s growing aspirations as well as a cunning goal-setting tactic when the cadre gets complacent. But the party may find it difficult to win 67 more seats.

How arithmetic in the chairs is done
The BJP faces a difficult task in trying to win 370 seats, even though most pundits concur that the party is quite likely to return to power. In states where it won all the seats in 2019, it would not only have to make sure that it replicates that success, but also maintain its advantage in states where it won more than half the seats, maximize its gains in areas where it performed below expectations, and secure seats in places where it came up empty.

Case against BJP leader after chaos at Bengal police station.

Agnimitra Paul, a West Bengal BJP leader, and other party employees are the targets of a formal complaint (FIR) for causing disturbance at a police station when they attempted to submit a complaint against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

According to police sources, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul and 14 other employees are the targets of a First Information Report (FIR) for causing mayhem at a police station in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal. Paul had gone to the police station to register a complaint against Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister.

Paul and the BJP representatives went to the district’s Kotwali police station to complain to Banerjee, claiming that she had made an offensive comment about Ram Navami at a gathering in north Bengal, according to police sources.

But after the police declined to file a formal complaint against Banerjee, Paul and the BJP employees began to demonstrate in front of the police station.

During the demonstration, Paul secured the police station’s gate.

Banerjee said earlier on Wednesday that there were schemes afoot to instigate unrest in the state on Ram Navami.

A few hours later, stones were thrown from rooftops in Murshidabad’s Shaktipur neighborhood at the Ram Navami procession, injuring about twenty people.

In a letter to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari requested that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) look into the altercations that occurred during a Ram Navami parade in Murshidabad.

PM Narendra Modi interview: “Opposition believes NDA government will return”

According to PM Narendra Modi, the opposition will undoubtedly lose the general elections.

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times’ sister journal Hindustan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a scathing jab at the Opposition, claiming that their leaders are not running for office in the Lok Sabha elections because they think the NDA government will win back control.

PM Modi said the Opposition is certain of its defeat in the general elections.

“It is not the election, but the Opposition camp that is dull because of their certain defeat. Even the Opposition believes that the NDA government will return to power, which is why even several opposition leaders are shying away from poll campaigns… Many people have started blaming EVMs (electronic voting machines) even before the polls have begun,” he said.

Amid the Opposition’s accusation that the Centre has been misusing agencies to target political opponents, PM Modi vowed that action against those who steal people’s money will not end.

“Whatever be the level of corruption, it impacts the people of the country… action against such people, who steal the money meant for the welfare of the people of this country, will not end,” he said.

PM Modi rejected the Opposition’s charge of misuse of agencies. He said out of all cases being probed by the Enforcement Directorate, only 3 percent were linked to those in politics.
PM Modi said those who benefit from corruption cry foul.

Just 3% of the corruption cases that the Enforcement Directorate is looking into involve political figures. Officials and criminals are connected to the remaining 97% of incidents. He remarked, “Those who are complaining and painting the false picture are the ones who find benefits in a corrupt system.
“The stories you’ve heard, according to which our target is solely political corruption, are being spread by individuals who work for investigative agencies,” he continued.

According to PM Modi, the Enforcement Directorate prosecuted dishonest officials and sequestered assets valued at thousands of crores.

“Before 2014, ED attached assets worth only ₹5,000 crores, whereas, in the last 10 years, that amount has increased to more than ₹1 lakh crore. Before 2014, ED had seized only ₹34 lakh in cash, while under our government it has seized more than ₹2,200 crore in cash. Imagine, if this money was invested in welfare schemes for the poor, how many people would have benefited, and how many opportunities could have been created for the youth? So many new infrastructure projects could have been launched,” he said.

PM Modi also attacked the Congress party, saying they strengthened “their family” when they had full majority governments at the Centre. He said the BJP government has been strengthening the country.

“People have got the opportunity to compare the BJP model and the Congress model for the first time. The Congress ruled the country with a full majority for 5-6 decades. In comparison, the BJP has served with absolute majority for only one decade. When they had full majority governments, all they did was strengthen their family. Today, when we have a majority government, our priority is to strengthen the country — villages, the poor, our farmers, and the middle-class society,” he said.

Voting for the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 19. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

Congress takes ‘Modi cabinet reunion in Tihar’ dig at PM over corruption remark

PM Modi on Thursday said that strict action was being taken against the corrupt across the country, which prompted the Opposition’s alliance against him.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement that “corrupt will go to jail,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday mocked the BJP-led Central government, claiming that the latter’s cabinet would have a “lovely reunion in Tihar jail” following the Lok Sabha elections.

Will those in charge of this sanctioned corruption likewise wind up behind bars? In Tihar, the Modi Cabinet might get together in style! Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, “#ElectoralBondScam.”

“The Prime Minister has promised that the dishonest will face justice. Recall that there were four corrupt channels involved in the #PayPM Scam: Payments in advance: Chanda Do, Dhanda Lo, Post-paid Bribes: Rishvat Do, Theka Lo, Hafta Vasuli thru ED/IT Raids, Post-raid Extortion: Farzi Companies,” he asserted.

The opposition came together to oppose Prime Minister Modi after he declared on Thursday that tough measures were being taken against corruption nationwide.

Modi is on one side and says that corruption should be eliminated. Those who argue to save the corrupt are on the opposite side. Pay close attention, everyone who has come to defend the corrupt: no matter how many warnings you issue to Modi, the crooked will ultimately have to face justice. “This is Modi’s assurance,” he declared during a rally in Rajasthan.

Regarding the leaks of recruitment exam papers, PM Modi also attacked the former state government headed by the Congress, claiming that the party is “steeped in corruption” and has opportunities to plunder even in positions for young people.

Expelled from Congress, Sanjay Nirupam is expected to join the Sena group commanded by Shinde!

Sanjay Nirupam was taken off the Maharashtra Congress’ roster of celebrity candidates for the Lok Sabha elections earlier in the day, and the party proposed that he face disciplinary punishment.

Days after giving the party a “one-week deadline” over the Mumbai North-West seat, the Congress on Wednesday banned Sanjay Nirupam, its former chief of the Mumbai unit, for six years. According to people close to Nirupam, he will be joining the Shiv Sena, which is headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Nirupam is being expelled with “immediate effect,” the Congress announced in a late-night statement, citing “complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements.”

Nirupam was taken off the Maharashtra Congress’ roster of celebrity candidates for the Lok Sabha elections earlier in the day, and the party suggested that he face disciplinary punishment.

“Nirupam won’t receive a show cause notice. Direct action will be taken against him, according to Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole.

Nirupam responded to this by saying, “Congress should not waste its time and resources on me. In any case, the party needs to put its energies into saving itself because it is in dire need of money. I’ve extended the one-week deadline and will make my announcement tomorrow, Thursday.

Sanjay Nirupam

Nirupam intended to run from Mumbai North-West, but Amol Kirtikar was named the winner by the Shiv Sena, which is led by Congress ally Uddhav Thackeray.

The candidate for the seat has not yet been announced by the BJP-Shinde Sena combine.”The (Congress) leadership does not care about local leaders,” Nirupam had stated following the Sena (UBT) announcement of its nominee. In the past two weeks, no one has spoken to me, asked if there is another option, or inquired as to why I would like to challenge this. The Congress leadership is not looking into the injustice done to its party employees at a time when it is talking about spreading nyay (justice) to various segments of society. I would like to inform the leadership that I will hold off for a week. I have all the alternatives available to me. Nirupam ran for office from Mumbai North-West in 2019, however, he was defeated by Shinde Sena candidate Gajanan Kirtikar. In 2005, Nirupam—who had previously been a member of the Shiv Sena—joined the Congress.

Arvind Kejriwal arrest: Sunita Kejriwal makes ‘dictatorship’ claim, BJP calls her ‘Rabri Devi in making’

Hardeep Singh Puri further gave Arvind Kejriwal a hard time, claiming that he may now get together cabinet sessions while jailed.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, slammed the BJP-led central government on Monday after a Delhi court prolonged the chief minister’s custody of the Enforcement Directorate, claiming that they wanted to put the AAP leader behind bars due to the Lok Sabha elections. The nation’s citizens, according to her, will answer to “this dictatorship.”

“What made him get put in jail? Their sole objective is to imprison him during the Lok Sabha elections. “This dictatorship will answer to the people of the country,” Sunita Kejriwal declared following the hearing.

BJP leader and union minister Hardeep Singh Puri, meanwhile, compared Sunita Kejriwal with Rabri Devi, the wife of Lalu Yadav, who became the chief minister of Bihar when her husband was jailed in connection with a corruption case.

“A Rabri Devi is in the making. I have already said 3-4 times in the past 7-10 days that ‘Rabri Devi’ will come forward. I mean to say that Sunita Kejriwal will come forward now,” Puri said.

Hardeep Singh Puri also took a sharp jibe at Arvind Kejriwal, saying he can now hold cabinet meetings as two AAP leaders — Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh — are in jail.
