Govinda, popularly known as Chi Chi, commended the efforts of the Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “We have seen the same level of progress here (in Maharashtra) in the last two years, as we have seen in the country in the last 10 years.” Our primary goals will be the development of art and culture as well as the state’s physical charm.”

Govinda, who started his acting career in the 1980s, said after his first stint in politics from 2004 to 2009, he never felt he would come back to the same field. Mumbai looks more beautiful and developed since Shinde has become the chief minister, he stated.

‘Arvind Kejriwal greedy’: BJP lambasts Delhi CM’s second order from jail

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday slammed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for issuing his second order from the Enforcement Directorate’s custody, saying he doesn’t want to leave the post because of his insecurity.

Demanding his resignation as the chief minister on moral grounds, BJP leader Dr Harshvardhan said Kejriwal’s move to remain the chief minister of Delhi despite his arrest shows his greed.

“Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is in jail. Therefore, he should resign morally and give his responsibility to someone else. Arvind Kejriwal still holding his position shows that he is greedy and does not want to leave his chair because of his insecurity,” he said.

BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the chief minister can’t issue any directions from the jail.

“A chief minister cannot issue any direction from the jail. This is a drama. I have complained about this to the L-G, demanding strict action against them,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harish Khurana said Kejriwal was trying to play the victim card.

“Kejriwal is in jail due to corruption for which former deputy CM Manish Sisodia has not got bail for the last 14 months. Kejriwal is the kingpin of the liquor scam. Arvind Kejriwal used to say that people facing corruption charges should resign, but now he is not resigning and is passing orders from behind bars,” he said.

Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested last week in connection with the liquor policy case, issued directions from ED custody to ensure that medicines and tests are available at all government hospitals and Mohalla Clinics, health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said today.

“Despite being in ED custody, Arvind Kejriwal is worried about the health of the people of Delhi. He is worried that because he is jailed, the people of Delhi should not suffer because of it,” Saurabh Bharadwaj said.

Arvind Kejriwal issued his first executive order from jail on Sunday.

PTI had reported that the Enforcement Directorate will look into the legality of such orders. It will ascertain if the orders are in line with the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court’s order.

Meanwhile, Delhi government’s Secretary of Planning, Niharika Rai, said the public services are not affected by Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest.

“Public services, social welfare schemes and subsidies are not affected by the arrest of the CM. All public services social welfare schemes and subsidies currently given by Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi shall continue uninterrupted. People should not be misled by any fear-mongering and malicious disinformation in this regard,” she said in a press note.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party launched a massive protest in Delhi demanding Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation.

State BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva said: “The CM of Delhi is corrupt and dishonest and he has looted the people of Delhi. We are going to the Secretariat to demand his resignation… The government is not running from the jail. Just like AAP’s character, the orders are also fake… Arvind Kejriwal has to resign.”

BJP finalises 100 candidates, rigorous selection process: Sources

The BJP has finalised a list of 100 Lok Sabha candidates following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s midnight meeting on Thursday. The list is expected to be announced in a few days, sources said.

In Short

  • List to focus on high profile candidates such as PM Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda
  • May include several fresh faces, including women
  • Importance to be given on seats lost in 2019 elections by a small margin

The BJP has finalised 100 Lok Sabha candidates after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a late-night meeting at his residence on Thursday, say sources. The first list is expected to be announced in the next few days, sources said.

The list will focus on high profile candidates such as PM Modi himself from Varanasi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow along with the ‘weak’ seats that the party lost in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a small margin.

States that had the focus of the BJP top brass at Thursday’s late-night meeting were Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Kerala and Telangana, among others.

Sources said that there is a possibility of Union Ministers, who are also Rajya Sabha MPs, contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections likely to be held in April-May. These legislators include Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Sarbanand Sonowal, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Union Minister of State (MoS) V Muraleedharan.

The BJP’s list will also see the party focussing on fresh faces, including several women. For instance, the BJP could pitch Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh to take on Trinamool Congress MP and Bollywood legend Shatrughan Sinha in West Bengal’s Asansol district.

On Thursday, PM Modi chaired a four-hour long CEC meeting to finalise the first of BJP’s candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Starting at 10:30 pm, the meeting went on for over four hours. It was attended by BJP chief JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, among others.

Last week, top BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, JP Nadda and Adityanath, held a meeting to discuss the “weak seats” that may pose challenges for the party in the upcoming general elections.

FIRST LIST – BEHIND THE SCENES

A lot of work went behind preparing the first list, including taking feedback from the public, sources said. The public was asked to submit their feedback about the MPs of their constituency on BJP’s NaMo app, and also mention the three most popular BJP leaders in their regions.

Reports were sought from BJP MPs regarding the work they have done in their respective constituencies for the last two years. Survey agencies were roped in to give a report on every parliamentary constituency.

Moreover, ministers in every parliamentary constituency of BJP ruled states were asked to gather reports on the work done by MPs. Then, the reports received from ministers and party organisation committee were reviewed by the state election committee. A list of names for each parliamentary seat was prepared at the state level meetings.

Before Thursday’s CEC meeting, the core group of every state met with JP Nadda, Amit Shah and Organisation General Secretary BL Santosh. Names of possible candidates for each parliamentary seat were discussed at the meeting. This discussion happened among PM Modi, Amit Shah and JP Nadda at the Prime Minister’s residence prior to taking place at the CEC meet.

Sources said that the BJP’s strategy is to see who has the best chance to win each seat. If this candidate is from another party, then the saffron side’s aim would be to bring the individual within their fold. For this, committees have been formed at state as well as central level.

CANCELLATION OF TICKETS

According to sources, the final meeting of the CEC chaired by PM Modi is expected to be held on March 3. It is believed that tickets of MPs whose performance has not been good will be cancelled without any hesitation. The Prime Minister has said that BJP will be fighting for every parliamentary seat.

There are talks of cancelling the tickets of some ministers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Additionally, tickets of at least 60-70 MPs are likely to be cancelled. Fresh faces will be given a chance and will replace old ones who have won from a particular constituency twice.

However, sources added, that tickets of OBC MPs are not expected to be canceled. In 2019, 85 of the 303 OBC MPs that the party fielded emerged victorious.

Delhi Police on alert ahead of AAP vs BJP protests today, ITO security tightened!

The Delhi Police said that it has not permitted any demonstration by the political parties in the capital!

The Delhi Police on Friday said it remains on alert and has beefed up the security around the central parts of the city, including ITO, in view of the demonstrations planned by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital.

The AAP has called for a protest outside the BJP headquarters over alleged cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral election, while the BJP said it will mount a demonstration near the AAP office against the alleged corruption of the Arvind Kejriwal-led government.

Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann will also take part in the protest, reported claimed.

Incidentally, the protest will take place on the same day that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the AAP, to appear before it in connection with its investigation into a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise police 2021-22.

The Delhi Police said it has not permitted any demonstration by the political parties in the capital.

“Police did not give permission for the demonstration. Police have received information about the arrival of Aam Aadmi Party workers from many areas of Delhi and also from Punjab,” news agency ANI quoted the police as saying.

The police added, “Around 1000 Delhi Police personnel and Paramilitary forces will be deployed. The Delhi BJP has also announced a protest outside the AAP headquarters on February 2, Police have denied them permission.”

A police officer told news agency PTI that they would make adequate security arrangements for the protest and to maintain law and order situation. “Additional forces will also be deployed. No one will be allowed to breach law and order,” the officer said.
