Will bail be granted to Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case? Hearing before the High Court of Delhi today!

At 2:30 pm, the Delhi High Court will decide on Arvind Kejriwal bail request. From the Tihar jail where he is currently incarcerated, Arvind Kejriwal continues to lead the Delhi government.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been in judicial jail for a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. He has challenged his arrest, and the Delhi High Court (HC). will rule on his appeal today. At 2:30 pm, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma will make a ruling about Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal. From the Tihar jail where he is currently in jail, Arvind Kejriwal continues to lead the Delhi government.

Citing the Lok Sabha elections of 2024, the law enforcement agency has opposed Arvind Kejriwal’s bail request, claiming that he is an “aam aadmi” and that the law applies to him equally. After serving six months in jail, AAP leader Sanjay Singh was recently granted bail; it remains to be seen if the Delhi High Court will accept Arvind Kejriwal’s request for bail.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Durgesh Pathak and incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s assistant (PA), Bibhav Kumar, have been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the Delhi Excise Policy 2021–22 case. The claims of corruption led to the policy’s withdrawal.

K Kavitha, an MLC for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was detained by the ED last month on suspicion of plotting with senior AAP officials to obtain preferential treatment when the Delhi Excise policy was being developed and carried out. In addition, the agency claims that she gave ₹100 crore in return for the favors. Since March 15, Kavitha has been in judicial custody.

In connection with the excise policy scandal, the ED has detained 16 people thus far, including Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, and Arvind Kejriwal, as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections draw near.

The high court denied a new request on Monday to remove Arvind Kejriwal from his position as chief minister, stating that the petitioner should have incurred “heavy costs” and that the case was filed primarily for “publicity.”

Why getting work visas to New Zealand just got tougher!

As part of its efforts to amend the laws governing immigration, the government of New Zealand has tightened its regulations for some types of visas, stating that the existing levels are “unsustainable.” The modifications include things like requiring knowledge of English for entry-level positions and establishing a minimum level of education and experience required for the majority of employer-sponsored work permits.

  • Low-skilled workers face a reduction in visa duration from five years to three
  • The country might not go ahead with a plan to add 11 low-skilled roles to the Green List
  • Employers to ensure migrant workers meet qualifications and skills before hiring

New Zealand is tightening its visa rules for migrants.

This is happening while the coalition government works to change the immigration laws, claiming that current levels of migration are “unsustainable.”

According to Immigration Minister Erica Stanford, the changes will mean that the country is “better testing the local labor market and reducing the risks of putting New Zealanders out of work.”

Let’s take a closer look.

Employers Worried About New Visa Rules

On Monday, New Zealand’s Employers and Manufacturers Association raised worries about the potential unintended effects of the new visa rules.

“We are supportive of ensuring we are bringing in the right workers, and that they are not exploited, but we do need to make sure we get the balance right. Making it harder for motivated workers to come into New Zealand means they will go somewhere else, that hurts business and means our economy misses out,” said Alan McDonald, the association’s Head of Advocacy.

In neighbouring Australia, there’s also been an increase in immigrants.

However, the government announced in December that it would cut its migration intake by half by making visa rules stricter for international students and low-skilled workers.

Tightening visa rules

Immigration minister Erica Stanford announced changes to the accredited employer-worker visa (AEWV), the main temporary work visa, which was introduced in mid-2022 to help fill workforce shortages after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The changes include measures such as introducing English language requirements for low-skilled jobs and setting a minimum skills and work experience threshold for most employer work visas. The maximum continuous stay for most low-skilled roles will also be reduced to three years from five years, according to Reuters.

More stringent rules on visas

The primary temporary work visa, the certified employer-worker visa (AEWV), was modified by immigration minister Erica Stanford. The AEWV was created in the middle of 2022 to help address a labor shortage following the COVID-19 epidemic.

The modifications include things like requiring English proficiency for entry-level positions and establishing a minimum level of education and work experience for the majority of employer-sponsored work permits. According to Reuters, the maximum continuous stay for the majority of low-skilled positions would also be lowered from five years to three years.

She stated the modifications would take effect right away.

“Where there is a skill deficit, the government is concentrating on luring and keeping highly trained migrants, including secondary teachers. In addition, we must make sure that New Zealanders are given preference for positions in areas where there is a skills shortage.

Employers must verify that a candidate meets these requirements before making an employment offer to a migrant, and they must also reveal that no other “suitable and available New Zealander” has applied for the post.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment in New Zealand requires that in addition to posting the job advertisement for a minimum of 21 days, businesses must also explain “why any New Zealanders who applied were not hired.” CNN reports that it also mentioned that some positions in the transportation and care industries won’t need to fulfill these standards.

Reducing Risk for Arrival

According to Stanford, the changes would make migrants less at risk of exploitation.

In February, the Public Service Commission released its evaluation of the AEWV initiative. The initiative was started by former Immigration Minister Andrew Little in response to claims of exploitation.

The committee found that a few “scrupulous employers” took advantage of the program and collected money from those who wanted to move to New Zealand, according to The Guardian.

The government abandoned plans to add 11 more positions, including fitters, turners, and welders, to the Green List, a list of highly skilled occupations that more Zealand is having trouble filling.

“Migrants will be better able to understand their rights or raise concerns about an employer early by having an English-language requirement,” she continued.

“These modifications mark the beginning of a more extensive work program aimed at developing a more intelligent immigration system that better manages risks, controls net migration, adapts to our shifting economic environment, draws in top talent, and renews international education.”

Growth in the immigration population

There are currently 5.1 million people living in New Zealand.

Since the pandemic ended, the number of migrants entering the nation has rapidly increased. 173,000 non-Zealand nationals entered the nation last year, sparking worries that this may accelerate inflation.

The Reserve Bank commissioned a study last month that examined possible links between migration numbers and inflation, but the findings were conflicting.

The working-age population grew more slowly in the year that concluded in March, indicating that the number of foreign workers may have peaked.

An international issue

Australia, a neighbor that has also experienced a significant surge in migration, announced that it would cut its immigration intake in half during the following two years.

Switzerland is also preparing for an important vote on immigration restrictions to keep the country’s population from growing beyond 10 million before 2050. By the end of 2022, the country’s population stood at 8.82 million, with immigrants making up a sizeable quarter of the total.

On Wednesday, 10 April, the European Union will take a crucial vote on a complete reform of its immigration rules. This decision will mark a dramatic change towards more stringent entrance processes for asylum-seekers and a shared responsibility among member states.

The European Parliament will discuss several regulations that are essential to the bloc’s agreement on immigration and asylum. This agreement is the result of a proposal that the European Commission presented in September 2020.

Elon Musk wants Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Brazilian Supreme Court to be removed: “Constitution betrayed”

On Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk demanded the removal of Justice Alexandre de Moraes from the Brazilian Supreme Court, accusing him of suppression for preventing accounts thought to be distributing false information.

On April 7, Tesla CEO Elon Musk demanded the removal of justice from the Brazilian Supreme Court, charging him with regulation for removing accounts that were allegedly distributing false information.

Alexandre de Moraes “has brazenly and repeatedly betrayed the constitution and people of Brazil,” according to the millionaire businessman. Either he quits or he gets impeached.”

The chief of Space X came to social media platform X (previously Twitter) on Saturday evening and declared, “We will probably lose all revenue in Brazil and have to shut down our office there.” This marked the beginning of a series of harsh comments against the Brazilian court system. “But principles matter more than profit,” Elon Musk remarked, alleging that Alexandre de Moraes was threatening to “cut off access” to the platform.

According to a court document, Elon Musk was accused of impeding justice through his social network platform X by the Brazilian Supreme Court Justice, who launched an investigation into him on Sunday.

“X shall refrain from disobeying any court order already issued, including performing any profile reactivation that has been blocked by this Supreme Court,” declared Alexandre de Moraes in his ruling. “If X fails to comply with the order to block certain accounts, the company will be fined 100,000 reais (USD 19,740) per day,” the judge further penalized non-compliance.

All about Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes

The Brazilian Supreme Court justice, who is in the limelight, is one of the 11 members of Brazil’s High Court who presides over the country’s Superior Electoral Tribunal, or TSE.

Critics accuse Alexandre de Moraes of limiting and prohibiting free speech in Brazil. However, the judge is known to have led the battle against disinformation in Brazil. Recently, Moraes ordered the blocking of accounts of influential figures on social media. It was reported that most of these blocked influential figures were supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.

Jair Messias Bolsonaro, a Brazilian politician and retired military officer, served as the 38th President of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. The Moraes-led TSE accused Jair Messias Bolsonaro of spreading false information about Brazil’s electoral system, and hence, he was declared ineligible to run for office in the 2023 polls.

During her first visit to Namesake City, Dasha brings the viral hit song “Austin” to the 2024 CMT Music Awards.

CMT Music Awards: The song was appropriately performed by the singer-songwriter in Texas Moody Center, where she also unexpectedly disclosed that it was her “first time in Austin.”

On Sunday night (April 7), Dasha sang her viral hit song “Austin” at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. She candidly stated that it was her first time visiting the place that inspired the song.

At the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, the singer/songwriter debuted the song live on television while decked up in double denim, a zip-up jean vest, and daisy dukes with a bejeweled belt that featured a rhinestone D belt buckle. Dasha and her dancers were accompanied by dancers dressed in white shirts and denim or camo pants. The song’s flawless line-dancing speed has been one of its main draws, so it was appropriate that they broke into a line dance in the middle of the song to honor its unexpected success.

When Tetris Kelly of Billboard News asked Dasha what about Austin inspired her, she responded, “Actually, this is my first time in Austin,” on the red carpet before Sunday’s show. “I’m performing ‘Austin’ live at the CMTs for the first time!”

Dasha’s first Hot 100 Billboard hit, “Austin,” peaked at No. 53 on the current week’s chart. This week, the song debuts at No. 54 on Hot Country Songs and reaches its No. 11 high. It also becomes her first Country Airplay hit. The news that the once-independent singer had inked a label deal with Warner Records was first reported by Billboard late last month.

A growing political gap between the two countries leads to Ecuadorian police breaking into the Mexican embassy in London!

Tensions between the two nations erupted the day before when Mexico Ecuador viewed remarks made by Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on the most recent elections, which Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa won, as “very unfortunate.”

Ecuadorian police officers on Friday forcibly broke into the Mexican embassy in Quito, where former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas is holed up.

The raid took place hours after the Mexican government granted Glas political asylum as diplomatic tensions between both countries deepened.

The police broke the external doors of the Mexican diplomatic headquarters in the Mexico Ecuador capital and entered the main patio.

A day earlier, tensions between the two countries escalated after Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made statements that Ecuador considered “very unfortunate” about the last elections in which the Ecuadorian president Daniel Noboa won.

(Capital of bolivia: La Paz and Sucre). In reaction, the Ecuadorian government declared the Mexican ambassador persona non grata.

The situation of former Vice President Glas was not immediately known. Uniformed officers closed the main access avenue to the site.

The Mexican embassy in Quito remained under heavy police guard late Friday.

Why was Glas in the Mexican Embassy?

In December 2023, Glas, who has been convicted twice on corruption charges, sought asylum from Mexico, arguing that he was being persecuted by the attorney general’s office and has been lodged at the Mexican Embassy in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito since.

The Mexican foreign ministry on Friday granted political asylum to the vice president after Ecuador’s government made Mexico’s ambassador persona non grata amid growing tensions between the two countries.

Ecuador’s presidential communications department said in a statement that Glas, who has been “sentenced to imprisonment by the Ecuadoran justice system, has been arrested tonight and placed under the orders of the competent authorities”.

What are the charges against the VP?

The ex-Vice President of Ecuador, Glas was released from prison last November after serving time for corruption in a vast scandal involving the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

He faces another arrest warrant for allegedly diverting funds that were intended for reconstruction efforts after a devastating earthquake in 2015.
