CSK vs RCB, IPL 2024: Mustafizur dents Bengaluru batting as Chennai triumphs in season opener

Chennai Super Kings did ‘CSK things’ and Royal Challengers Bengaluru did ‘RCB things’ as the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off in grand fashion at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday.

It was the early onslaught from Rachin Ravindra that really made the difference between the two sides. While RCB too had a quick start, it was not able to sustain it. CSK could do that courtesy of 37 off 15 from Rachin and Ajinkya Rahane’s 19-ball 28. There was a brief period where two wickets gave some hope to Faf & Co but Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja got together to end that.

Joseph to Dube, SIX! Way too short and Dube gets the invitation to pull it over mid-wicket. FOUR leg byes down to fine leg to win the match by six wickets.

Green again. Jadeja taps to the on side with soft hands, hoping to pick two runs but some sharp work in the field allows only a single. FOUR! On his body, Dube hooks it off his back foot. Alzarri Joseph for the first time. SIX! Way too short first up and Rachin pummels it behind square. Ajinkya Rahane gets off the mark with a single to third man. Rachin tries to swipe at a delivery outside off; it is in the direction of mid-off but falls short. Eleven runs from the over.

Dayal to Ruturaj, one run with a tap to third man. FOUR! Angling down leg to Rachin who nudges it wide of short fine leg. FOUR again! Siraj starts his second over with a wide. BOUNDARY! Siraj strays on the pads and Rachin clips it past the square leg. CHANCE! Rachin’s attempted flick takes a leading edge but thankfully flies over the bowler. SIX to finish the over! A top edge off a pull shot, and the ball lands over the fine leg rope.

Mohammed Siraj to Ruturaj, FOUR! A boundary off the first delivery. It is pitched short and the CSK skipper latches onto it with a pull shot. FOUR more, this one through point. Ruturaj drives this delivery outside off. It hangs in the air but flies between the fielders and runs away to the fence.

The final total looked a distant dream when RCB was struggling at 42 for three at the end of the PowerPlay. Faf du Plessis gave the side a strong start which withered away with three quick wickets. Virat Kohli and Cameron Green arrested the slide for a bit before Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik added 95 runs for the sixth wicket, taking the side to a respectable 173. But Karthik admitted this is a batting pitch and that the RCB bowlers need to bowl “out of their skins” to win.

Tushar to bowl the final over of the innings. He starts with a WIDE. The plan looks fairly clear. Tushar wants to target yorker-length deliveries outside off stump and in that process bowls two wides while RCB loses two reviews reviewing two calls for wide. FOUR! Dinesh gets an outside edge which runs away at third man. Karthik misses to get a connection in the final delivery and Dhoni nails the direct hit to run out Anuj Rawat who was just shy of making his ground. Anyhow a brilliant comeback from the wicket-keeper duo which added 95 off 50 for the sixth wicket and took RCB to 173.

Mustafizur with his final over. Dinesh Karthik lofts it over infield and runs two as RCB gets to 150. Mustafizur to Rawat, SIX! This young man can bat! He walks down the track and hits Mustafizur for a straight six. FOUR! This time Karthik plays fine and it runs away at the boundary. 16 off this over.

Tushar Deshpande to bowl the 18th over. Karthik changes his stance and tries to play the reverse sweep, Tushar follows him but bowls way outside offside and it is a WIDE. Tushar to Dinesh, SIX! Brilliant shot! A flat-batted straight six. Tushar to Rawat, SIX! This time full and in the batter’s slot as Rawat smokes it over deep mid-wicket for a gigantic six. Tushar to Rawat, SIX! Full toss and easy pickings for Rawat, who clears the long-on boundary. FOUR! Slower one from Tushar and Rawat plays fine to get 25 from this over.

Dangerman Mustafizur comes back into the attack. FOUR! Rawat shuffles and pulls the short ball for a boundary. Another excellent over from Mustafizur who gives only seven from this over after going for a boundary and bowling a wide.

Mahesh Theekshana with his fourth over. FOUR! Karthik sweeps with authority and and ball races away for a boundary at deep square leg. SIX! Full toss on offer for Karthik and he rocks back and lofts it over deep long-on to end the over with a maximum.

Deepak Chahar to bowl his final over. FOUR! Full toss for Rawat and he placed it over extra-cover for a boundary. Four singles in the next four deliveries before Rawat plays an uppercut for a boundary to finish the over which also takes RCB over 100.

Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik are looking to rebuild from hereon as there are still six overs left and the duo are not looking for any risky boundary shots. Just seven from Jadeja’s over.

Another quiet over with just four singles coming from Tushar Deshpande’s over.

Mustafizur comes back into the attack. Mustafizur to Kohli, OUT! Ajinkya Rahane covers good ground to take the catch and throws it to boundary rider Rachin Ravindra before sliding over the boundary line. A brilliant presence of mind from Rahane helps CSK get a big fish in Kohli who departs after scoring 21. Anuj Rawat gets off the mark straight away with a single. Mustafizur to Green, OUT! A classic off-cutter from Mustafizur uproots the stumps after Green failed to make the most of the room. Dinesh Karthik is the new batter in at no. seven. Deepak to Maxwell, OUT! An enticing line from Deepak and Maxwell fell for it. He opened the face of the bat and edged to Dhoni behind the stumps. CSK is back and how? Alzarri Joseph comes in tonight, got a few spinners in the middle. And since we are batting first, we’ll see how it goes. Ruturaj Gaikwad: I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes. I got to know last week, Sadly we are missing Conway and Pathirana. We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in. Looks like a good pitch, a hard surface that should hold up well for the second innings. X is also aiming to turn into a job search platform and as per latest reports, the company just added a new feature that takes it a step closer to LinkedIn.

A post by web developer Nima Owji revealed X’s new feature in job search that lets users filter the results as per experience level. Not only this, people can also look up jobs from specific companies. These two features are already a part of LinkedIn.

“#X keeps working on the search filters for the job search! You’ll also be able to choose the seniority and also search for jobs from specific companies,” Owji wrote in his post.

The post was re-shared by Doge Designer and eventually by X boss, Elon Musk himself.

Last month, X had revealed that more than 1 million companies on the platform were looking to hire candidates.

Over a million job postings have already been posted on X across various industries, a post by X Hiring said. Elon Musk had also reshared the post on the platform.

The post read, “There are more than 1 million job postings live on X right now! Companies across AI, financial services, SaaS, and more are finding qualified candidates using X Hiring every day.”

Apart from turning into a job search platform, X is also finding multiple ways to help users connect with each other. Recently, X allowed users without a premium subscription to make audio and video calls. Earlier, this feature was only limited to Premium subscribers.

Enrique Barragan, an engineer at X, recently announced the update on the platform, signalling a notable expansion in the accessibility of the app’s calling capabilities.

X had introduced audio and video calling for iOS users last year, initially offering it as a premium feature before opening it up to a broader audience.

Earlier this year, the feature of making calls was made available for Android users. However, it remained limited to premium subscribers. Elon Musk had previously hinted at a broader rollout by the end of January, talking about the company’s commitment to ensure the feature’s robustness before opening it up to all users.

And that is not all. In addition to letting all users make audio and video calls, X introduced a brand new option – to select how they receive calls from people in the app. X users can adjust their settings, and choose to receive calls only from people they are following, or to receive calls from anyone on the platform.

Today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, officially opened the Start-up Mahakumbh. He also had a tour of the exhibition that was on display during the event.

In his speech, the prime minister highlighted the significance of Start-up Mahakumbh and the nation’s plan to work toward establishing Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Prime Minister highlighted how India has emerged as a leader in the software and technology sectors over the past three decades as well as the new trends in creativity and start-up culture. The Prime Minister focused on the innovation factor that supports the development of start-ups in the nation. According to the annual Unstop Talent Report 2024, as many as 91 percent of students believe their college curricula offer an adequate level of preparedness for a job, whereas 66 percent of recruiters and 42 percent of university partners feel the skill gap and lack of preparation are major challenges in campus recruitment.

The report found that 88 percent of HR practitioners expressed a strong preference for skill-based hiring, prioritizing candidates’ abilities over other factors such as experience, academics, references, internships, and projects.

The findings are based on responses gathered from an extensive survey involving over 11,000 students, university partners, and human resource practitioners across the country.Additional insights were also gathered through conversations with HR leaders which divulged their views on employee desires, the role of mentorship, competition, and more.

“By highlighting the preferences and concerns of students and HR professionals, we aim to bridge the gap between talent supply and demand, enabling more informed decision-making and fostering a more efficient and effective hiring process,” Unstop Founder and CEO Ankit Aggarwal said.

The report further noted that the looming fear of layoffs has prompted three out of five (60 percent) students to prioritize job security overpay hikes. For most of them, in-hand salary remained the most valuable salary component, followed by perks and benefits.

Moreover, a significant percentage of B-school students prefer established and legacy firms, and working for startups has lost its charm.

Further, marketing emerged as the top preferred domain for B-school students, while Finance and Analytics topped the list for Arts and Science students.

In Arts, Science & Commerce, the most common offer for men was ₹6-10 LPA and for women was 2-5 LPA.

In B-School, 55 percent of men received an offer of over ₹16 LPA, but only 45 percent of women received an offer above ₹16 LPA, the report said.

The cut-off date for NEET PG 2024 remains unchanged at August 15. Candidates are required to register online and submit their application forms for the exam. The National Board of Examinations (NBE), the exam conducting body, will announce the results by July 15, 2024.
