Punjab Excise Commissioner’s residence raided in Delhi liquor policy case

The Enforcement Directorate is probing 20 locations in Chandigarh, including the Punjab Excise Commissioner’s residence, in connection with the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.

In Short

  • Enforcement Directorate conducts raids at 20 locations in Chandigarh
  • Punjab Excise Commissioner’s residence raided
  • Raids connected to scrapped Delhi excise policy

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on Wednesday at 20 locations in Chandigarh, including the residence of the Punjab Excise Commissioner, in connection to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

The residence of Punjab Excise Commissioner Varun Roojam is located in Chandigarh’s Sector 20.

The house of the IAS officer was also raised by the probe agency in September 2023 as well.

There was no additional information on the ongoing raids.

The latest ED raids come as the Delhi High Court is hearing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest by the probe agency in connection with the liquor policy scam.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 from his Civil Lines residence, hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him interim relief from any coercive action by the probe agency.

The Aam Aadmi Party national convenor’s petition called his arrest and the subsequent remand to the ED “illegal”.

The plea also sought his immediate release from ED custody.

Game Changer Song Jaragandi: Ram Charan And Kiara Advani Rule The Dance Floor And How!

The film will hit theatres in September 2024

On March 27, Ram Charan celebrated his birthday. The producers of Game Changer released the first song, Jaragandi, as a special birthday present for the actor’s followers. Daler Mehndi’s dynamic dance song is sure to get people moving with its loud tempo and eye-catching graphics of Ram Charan and Kiara Advani dressed in bright colors. Apart from the celebration of Ram Charan’s birthday, the popular movie Magadheera was re-released in theaters. The action-packed thriller, which was directed by SS Rajamouli, debuted in 2009 and made Ram Charan a major celebrity in the business. Now, after fifteen years, MagadheeraTheaters screened the Game Changer song Jaragandi in tandem with the re-release of Magadheera, offering viewers a preview of the eagerly awaited movie.

While audiences are excitedly awaiting Game Changer, the movie has seen its series of difficulties, forcing its release date to be pushed back to September 2024. Starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, the film is directed by S Shankar and is the first to feature the duo together since Vinaya Vidheya Rama in 2019.

Recent sources suggest that Game Changer will have a thrilling plot. Ram Charan plays an IAS officer named Ram Nandan, who is matched against three strong opponents played by Srikanth, SJ Surya, and Naveen Chandra. Ram Charan will also be seen playing two roles: that of the younger Ram Nandan and that of his father Appanna, a man of wealth who wants to start a political party to better serve his society.

If reports are to be believed, the film’s delay can be attributed to director S. Shankar’s commitment to another project, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, a political thriller set for release on April 14, coinciding with Tamil New Year.

RR vs LSG Live Score, IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs!

IPL 2024: RR vs LSG Live Score: With a dominating victory at home, the Rajasthan Royals kick off the new IPL season; Avesh Khan successfully defends 25 runs in the final over.

Lucknow Super Giants vs. Rajasthan Royals and RR vs. LSG Real-time score: The early departures of their top-order batsmen in quick succession left the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a depressing start to their chase. Trent Boult’s skillful bowling demonstrated its strength as he took the vital wickets of Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal, undermining LSG’s early lead. Burger’s dismissal of Badoni compounded the loss and increased the strain on the Lucknow team in the power-play period.

The responsibility fell mostly on the experienced shoulders of LSG captain KL Rahul due to the loss of important wickets. And he did not let us down. Rahul amassed 58 runs from 44 deliveries. For a while, the hopes of the visitors were sustained by Nicholas Pooran in the center. However, RR ultimately outperformed LSG by 20 runs and won the match. In the final over, Avesh Khan successfully defended 25 runs. Pooran’s valiant inning was for nothing.

RR vs LSG: Rajasthan Royals Innings

Earlier in the day, we saw Sanju Samson timing the ball well as Rajasthan Royals posted a good score on the board at Tata IPL 2024 match number 4 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Samson won the toss and opted to bat against Lucknow Super Giants. After Jos Buttler and Yashaswi Jaiswal fell early, it was skipper Samson’s responsibility to avoid any batting collapse. Along with him, young Riyan Parag was giving an able partnership. Their gritty third-wicket partnership got Rajasthan back in the game. Just when Parag was getting charged up, Naveen-ul-Haq removed him at 43. Parag had survived earlier when Mohsin Khan dropped his catch.

On J-Hope’s birthday, BTS fans in India collect more than ₹3 lakhs for medical relief in Palestine

In 2024, BTS followers from India defy the stigma of “Crazy Fan Girl” by contributing a significant amount to the Palestinian cause as a group.

J-Hope’s birthday : Like one of the most famous pop groups of the twenty-first century, BTS fans’ loving compassion once again showed itself in acts of humanitarian assistance. A tremendous devastating blow could be dealt to the over a million Palestinians seeking sanctuary in the southern Gaza city of Rafah under Israel’s continuous bombardment on Gaza, as reports suggest that Israel is preparing yet another invasion sometime soon. Nonetheless, the outpouring of solidarity for every Palestinian observing the “bloodbath” and devastation of war never stops.

Team ARMY Projects India, an Indian fan base of BTS, defied the cliched and unimaginative notion that frequently uses the term “fangirl” in an offensive manner. But this isn’t the first time the conscientiously sensitive and mindful fandom has accomplished an achievement of this nature. Supporters of the K-pop group from around the world launched boycott campaigns and an online petition earlier this month called #HYBEDivestFromZionism, calling for BTS’s label to cut all relations with Scooter Braun, the CEO of the agency’s American division. (Click here to read more.)

On February 18, the band member J-hope’s birthday, the Indian side of the fandom mirrored the emotion by contributing a noteworthy amount of over INR 3 lakhs for medical relief in Palestine. In addition to giving back to the environment, Team ARMY Projects India has previously organized fundraisers for mental health and other social causes, raised money for stray animals, donated to girl child education, and more. Reaching a new high, the group spoke with HT and revealed how the K-pop septet’s activities motivate them to take on such important duties while they’re on the go.

Despite the fact that contributions have come in from all directions, Admins P and T have always kept the meter running. Thanks to BTS, the two met in school and immediately started their endearing connection. Their shared interest in the club eventually strengthened their relationship, which persisted long after school.

During her bachelor’s degree in Mumbai, Admin P had prior experience co-ordinating campus fests and other K-pop-related events. Since Kim Namjoon is well-known for being a major admirer of the outdoors, Admin T wanted to plan an event for his birthday in 2021 to honor nature. Admin A felt the same way, so they decided to collaborate on the project, they informed HT.

The BTS ARMY fandom has always been distinct in that it has charitable endeavors. In actuality, Team ARMY Projects India got underway a little later than usual in India. Indian BTS fans started their benefaction chain after taking inspiration from the global BTS ARMYs who had started a number of birthday initiatives, adopted and protected endangered animals, contributed to reforestation, and hosted other fundraisers for humanitarian reasons.

However, BTS’s activities ultimately had a beneficial impact on them, particularly considering that the members have been transparent about their donations to numerous causes in Korea and around the world. The group members paved the way as unmatched role models and contributed to ingraining these beneficial chain reactions into their mutually beneficial partnership with the fandom. The “famous example” of BTS giving was also cited by Team ARMY Projects India.

$1 million was donated to the BLM movement. Here, too, in less than a day, ARMYs effectively returned the favor with their #MatchAMillion, as donations exceeding $1 million followed BTS’s model lead.

Baltimore Bridge Collapse: After a cargo ship crash, six people are believed to be dead and the search is paused |

Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapses: Rebuilding the Baltimore bridge would be fully funded by public funds, according to US President Joe Biden.

Officials stated that six persons who had vanished when a cargo ship in the US city of Baltimore lost power and collided with a significant bridge early on Tuesday were thought to be dead. The Maryland State Police superintendent, Colonel Roland L. Butler Jr., said on Tuesday night that search efforts for the six individuals had been put on hold until the following day.

Maersk, a shipping corporation, has confirmed that the entire crew of the Singapore-flagged container ship “Dali,” which crashed into the Baltimore bridge and nearly collapsed, sending cars and people falling into the river below, was Indian.

Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath of the Coast Guard told the news agency AP, “We do not believe that we are going to find any of these individuals still alive at this point based on the length of time that we have gone in this search… (and) the water temperature.”

One of the busiest roads in the country, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, will be fully rebuilt at no expense to the government, according to US President Joe Biden.

Baltimore bridge collapse: Latest updates

  • The crew of the ship, according to Maryland Governor Wes Moore, sent out a mayday call just before the collision destroyed the Francis Scott Key Bridge, allowing authorities to restrict traffic on the span. Moore declared, “These people are heroes.” “They prevented deaths last night.”
  • The objective was changed from search and rescue to search and recovery, according to Colonel Roland L. Butler Jr. He said that the search was on pause and that divers would visit the location again on Wednesday at six in the morning, when the difficult conditions from the previous night should clear up.
  • According to the state’s transportation secretary, Paul Wiedefeld, the six persons who are still missing were working as part of a construction group that was patching potholes on the bridge.
  • Given the depth of the water and the amount of time that had passed since the collapse, Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, the firm that employed the workers, stated on Tuesday afternoon that they were assumed to be dead.
  • Two people have been retrieved from the water by the rescuers. A patient received hospital treatment and was released a few hours later. Authorities didn’t think anyone was inside the several cars that ended up in the river.
  • When the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrived on the site, they declared that there was no solid evidence pointing to terrorism.
  • Flying from Baltimore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, was the Dali. under a Singaporean flag, according per Marine Traffic information. The website states that the cargo ship is roughly 48 meters wide and 300 meters long.
  • Although a June inspection revealed a fault with Dali’s machinery, a more recent review turned up no flaws, according to the maritime information system Equasis.
  • According to Bloomberg, the Baltimore bridge is expected to halt the port’s coal exports for up to six weeks and prevent the transportation of up to 2.5 million tons of coal, according to Ernie Thrasher, CEO of Xcoal Energy & Resources LLC. Baltimore is the second-largest coal terminal in the United States, with around 74 million tons shipped by the country last year.
  • Synergy Maritime Group, a shipping company, had earlier claimed in a statement

What is the highest score in IPL ever made?

We’re used to big shots in IPL. The highest-ever score for a team in one innings is a stunning 263/5 from 20 over by Royal Challengers Bangalore. They achieved that when playing Pune Warriors India back in 2013. Lucknow Super Giants fell just short of breaking the record that same year, scoring 257/5 against Punjab Kings.

West Indian batter Chris Gayle holds the individual record. He blasted a ridiculous 175 not out from 66 deliveries in the above game when playing for RCB. Current England coach Brendon McCullum is next on the list. He put his “Baseball” philosophy into practice in 2008 when he hit 158 not out from 73 balls playing for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Pakistan’s second-largest naval air base, PNS Siddique, in Balochistan province’s Turbat city has come under an armed terrorist attack. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army’s (BLA) Majeed Brigade had claimed responsibility for the attack on the base, where Chinese drones are stationed.

According to The Balochistan Post newspaper, the Majeed Brigade sent a statement to the media, saying that “we have entered the Pakistani Naval Airbase in Turbat”.

It also claimed to have killed “over a dozen” security personnel at the naval base.

Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper said the attack on Monday night came after a series of explosions and firing in the city, which, according to local residents, began at about 10 pm and continued for several hours.

A high-ranking official told the newspaper that the attackers “came from three sides of the airport boundary, but security forces responded immediately and foiled their attempt to infiltrate the premises”.

However, he did not provide any further details, including if there were any casualties or injuries amongst the forces.

Citing security officials, the Dawn newspaper also said that “six militants were killed outside the Turbat airport boundary, ensuring the safety of the base”.

The officials also said that there were no reports of any loss of “sensitive naval installations” at the station, while the Frontier Corps and the navy’s special group “successfully isolated the terrorists”.

The Pakistan Army is yet to make an official statement on the attack.

The Balochistan Post said that this was the BLA’s third attack of this year.

On January 29, the separatist group launched an assault in Mach city and on March 20, they attacked the Gwadar port, leading to the deaths of two Pakistani soldiers and eight assailants.

The BLA has been actively seeking independence for Balochistan and has been involved in various violent acts against the state.

Congress digs out Kangana Ranaut’s ‘soft porn star’ remark, hits back

Congress has hit back at Kangana Ranaut for her derogatory remarks about Urmila Matondkar, questioning her failure to condemn her own comments, following Supriya Shrinate’s clarification of an objectionable post related to Ranaut on her Instagram.

In Short

  • Congress slams Kangana Ranaut for derogatory remarks
  • Ranaut called Urmila Matondkar a ‘soft porn star’ in earlier video
  • Supriya Shrinate clarifies objectionable post on Ranaut

Hours after Congress lawmaker Supriya Shrinate clarified an offensive tweet about Kangana Ranaut on her Instagram account, the party attacked the actor for referring to actor Urmila Matondkar, who had previously joined and left Congress, as a “soft porn star”.

Srinivas BV, president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on X, shared an older video of Ranaut raving about Urmila Matondkar, saying, “What was posted from Supriya Ji’s account was utterly disrespectful. She has not only erased it, but also clarified and condemned it in the strongest possible terms.” (sic).

“How about you?” Calling Urmila Matondkar a’soft porn star’ on live television? “Have you condemned it?” he tweeted.

THE KANGANA-URMILA CONTROVERSY

Urmila Matondkar, who made her political debut as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency, resigned from the party soon after. Later, in 2020, she joined Shiv Sena.

Urmila had slammed Kangana for disrespecting veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, who, in a 2020 speech in Parliament, had objected to the entire film industry being ‘tarnished’.

In an interview, Urmila said, “When Kangana was not even born, Jaya ji was in the film industry. We’re talking about a lady here (Jaya Bachchan) who has herself been an icon. Which part of Indian culture tells you to lash out at people like this?”
