DC vs. PBKS,(4-wicket win): IPL, Second Match, Mohali, Mar. 23, 2024!

At the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Punjab Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by four wickets in Match 2 to open TATA IPL 2024 on a positive note. Sam Curran (63 off 47) and Liam Livingstone (38* off 21) made significant hits to help PBKS chase down 175 in the opening IPL encounter at the new location. Earlier, a combined bowling effort had reduced DC to 174/9. Chasing 175, PBKS lost openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow during the Powerplay despite getting off to a quick start. Within the first three overs, Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow combined 34 runs.

They got off to a fast start, hitting four fours in Khaleel Ahmed’s opening over. The breakthrough came then from Ishant Sharma, who cleaned up Dhawan. After Sharma got fingertip length off a straight drive from Prabhsimran Singh, DC had another opportunity in the over when Bairstow was run out at the non-striker’s end. Bairstow was shown to be short on the video.

IPL 2024: Liam Livingstone hit a maximum to get the Punjab Kings over the line at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali. Sam Curran also played his part in the game with a crucial half-century. (PBKS vs DC Live Score)

DC’s standout performers were Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone, while Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling performance was excellent. Nevertheless, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran put together another partnership to help the Punjab Kings advance in this match after Prabhsimran and Shashank Singh were removed from the game quickly.

In between, Delhi’s standout bowlers were Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel, who combined to give up about six runs per over and claim two wickets apiece to help Delhi stay in the game.

CSK vs RCB, IPL 2024: Mustafizur dents Bengaluru batting as Chennai triumphs in season opener

Chennai Super Kings did ‘CSK things’ and Royal Challengers Bengaluru did ‘RCB things’ as the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicked off in grand fashion at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Friday.

  • MARCH 23, 2024 00:04- CSK gets first points on board

It was the early onslaught from Rachin Ravindra that really made the difference between the two sides. While RCB too had a quick start, it was not able to sustain it. CSK could do that courtesy of 37 off 15 from Rachin and Ajinkya Rahane’s 19-ball 28. There was a brief period where two wickets gave some hope to Faf & Co but Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja got together to end that.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:52 – CSK 176/4 in 18.4 overs

Joseph to Dube, SIX! Way too short and Dube gets the invitation to pull it over mid-wicket. FOUR leg byes down to fine leg to win the match by six wickets.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:47- CSK 164/4 in 18 overs

Siraj to Dube, FOUR! On the leg-stump line, Dube pulls it behind the square. FOUR more! Swats it down the ground right back over the bowler’s head.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:38 – CSK 156/4 in 17 overs

Joseph to continue. Sloppy work from Anuj Rawat. An overthrow from him allows Jadeja to pick a second run. FOUR! Dube cuts this uppish delivery behind the square to pull his side closer to the target. FOUR byes in the over bring the required equation to run a ball. 19 needed off 19. Rawat looks like he’s hurt his hand trying to prevent those byes. Gets some treatment. 16 runs from the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:31 – CSK 140/4 in 16 overs

Green again. Jadeja taps to the on side with soft hands, hoping to pick two runs but some sharp work in the field allows only a single. FOUR! On his body, Dube hooks it off his back foot. A wide to follow from Green. Dube uppercuts to collect three more. Four more runs from the over make it 12 off it.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:25 – CSK 128/4 in 15 overs

Siraj is back for his third over. Jadeja is swift in pulling the ball on the on side but cannot quite breach the fence. Another seven-run over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:20 – CSK 121/4 in 14 overs

Glenn Maxwell to Jadeja. SIX! Jadeja takes a long stride on his front foot to get to the pitch and lofts it over the bowler’s head. A single too long on the next ball. Four dots on the trot for Dube.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:13 – CSK 114/4 in 13 overs

Green to Dube, a bouncer for the batter which he fails to pull away. RCB is up in appeal, claiming a faint edge. A DRS check shows nothing and Faf and his team are one review down. WICKET! Green strikes again, and Mitchell holes out at long-on.

Daryl Mitchell c Patidar b Green 22 (18)

Ravindra Jadeja is on a mission now. Five runs from the over.

Joseph back into the attack. He manages to trouble the batters with his hit-the-deck deliveries, but Mitchell and Dube are able to pick up seven runs from the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 23:02- CSK 102/3 in 11 overs

Cameron Green for his first over. SIX! A juicy half-volley for Rahane packs it behind square. WICKET! Tries to pull the bowler on again but is caught at the fence. Could not get the full swing of the bat.Ajinkya Rahane c Maxwell b Green 27 (19)Shivam Dube off the mark off the first delivery. 72 needed off 54

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:59 – CSK 92/2 in 10 overs

Dagar to continue. Another tidy over which gives away four runs. Dagar sticking to the stumps line and firing in flat deliveries.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:56- CSK 88/2 in 9 overs

Karn to Mitchell, SIX! Overpitched and gets the treatment, parks it right into the sight screen. SIX more! This delivery is more on the off side but still at a length good enough to loft it over the boundary. 15 runs from the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:53- CSK 73/2 in 8 overs

Daryl Mitchell in at No. 4, Mayank Dagar for his first over. Just two runs from the over, a single each for the two batters. CSK needs 101 off 72 balls.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:46- CSK 71/2 in 7 overs

RCB brings on spin. Karn Sharma to bowl. SIX! Rachin is given the time to go back on his back foot, and he uses it to pick a maximum over mid-wicket. OUT! One shot too many for Rachin. He tries to slog sweep but hands it to deep square leg. Rachin Ravindra c Patidar b Sharma 37 (15)

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:42- CSK 62/1 in 6 overs

Dayal to Rahane, SIX! In the slot Rahane frees his levers to launch it over mid-off. Two runs, Rahane tries to chip it over mid-off again. He does not middle it but gets enough bat on it to beat the fielder. An overthrow on the final delivery allows three runs to Rahane.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:37- CSK 49/1 in 5 overs

Alzarri Joseph for the first time. SIX! Way too short first up and Rachin pummels it behind square. Ajinkya Rahane gets off the mark with a single to third man. Rachin tries to swipe at a delivery outside off; it is in the direction of mid-off but falls short. Eleven runs from the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:31- CSK 38/1 in 4 overs

Dayal to Ruturaj, one run with a tap to third man. FOUR! Angling down leg to Rachin who nudges it wide of short fine leg. FOUR again! This time it’s on the pads of Ruturaj who glides it to the fence through fine leg. WICKET! Ruturaj nicks to Cameron Green at first slip while chasing a wide delivery.Ruturaj Gaikwad c Green b Dayal 15 (15)

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:25- CSK 28/0 in 3 overs

Siraj starts his second over with a wide. BOUNDARY! Siraj strays on the pads and Rachin clips it past the square leg. CHANCE! Rachin’s attempted flick takes a leading edge but thankfully flies over the bowler. SIX to finish the over! A top edge off a pull shot, and the ball lands over the fine leg rope.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:20- CSK 13/0 in 2 overs

Yash Dayal from the other end, Rachin on strike. FOUR! Streaky but Rachin will take it. He slashes hard outside off, and gets an inside edge which runs to the right of the keeper. The boundary and a single from the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:16- CSK 8/0 in 1 over

Mohammed Siraj to Ruturaj, FOUR! A boundary off the first delivery. It is pitched short and the CSK skipper latches onto it with a pull shot. FOUR more, this one through point. Ruturaj drives this delivery outside off. It hangs in the air but flies between the fielders and runs away to the fence.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:14- CSK needs 174 runs to win

Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad walk out for the home team.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:14- IMPACT SUB FOR RCB

IN – Yash Dayal | OUT – Dinesh Karthik

  • MARCH 22, 2024 22:09- Did RCB get enough?

The final total looked a distant dream when RCB was struggling at 42 for three at the end of the PowerPlay. Faf du Plessis gave the side a strong start which withered away with three quick wickets. Virat Kohli and Cameron Green arrested the slide for a bit before Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik added 95 runs for the sixth wicket, taking the side to a respectable 173. But Karthik admitted this is a batting pitch and that the RCB bowlers need to bowl “out of their skins” to win.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:53

Rawat, Karthik take RCB to competitive total

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:40- RCB 173/6 in 20 over

Tushar to bowl the final over of the innings. He starts with a WIDE. The plan looks fairly clear. Tushar wants to target yorker-length deliveries outside off stump and in that process bowls two wides while RCB loses two reviews reviewing two calls for wide. FOUR! Dinesh gets an outside edge which runs away at third man. Karthik misses to get a connection in the final delivery and Dhoni nails the direct hit to run out Anuj Rawat who was just shy of making his ground. Anyhow a brilliant comeback from the wicket-keeper duo which added 95 off 50 for the sixth wicket and took RCB to 173.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:37- RCB 163/5 in 19 overs

Mustafizur with his final over. Dinesh Karthik lofts it over infield and runs two as RCB gets to 150. Mustafizur to Rawat, SIX! This young man can bat! He walks down the track and hits Mustafizur for a straight six. FOUR! This time Karthik plays fine and it runs away at the boundary. 16 off this over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:30- RCB 148/5 in 18 overs

Tushar Deshpande to bowl the 18th over. Karthik changes his stance and tries to play the reverse sweep, Tushar follows him but bowls way outside offside and it is a WIDE. Tushar to Dinesh, SIX! Brilliant shot! A flat-batted straight six. Tushar to Rawat, SIX! This time full and in the batter’s slot as Rawat smokes it over deep mid-wicket for a gigantic six. Tushar to Rawat, SIX! Full toss and easy pickings for Rawat, who clears the long-on boundary. FOUR! Slower one from Tushar and Rawat plays fine to get 25 from this over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:21- RCB 123/5 in 17 overs

Dangerman Mustafizur comes back into the attack. FOUR! Rawat shuffles and pulls the short ball for a boundary. Another excellent over from Mustafizur who gives only seven from this over after going for a boundary and bowling a wide.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:16- RCB 116/5 in 16 overs

Mahesh Theekshana with his fourth over. FOUR! Karthik sweeps with authority and and ball races away for a boundary at deep square leg. SIX! Full toss on offer for Karthik and he rocks back and lofts it over deep long-on to end the over with a maximum.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:09- RCB 102/5 in 15 overs

Deepak Chahar to bowl his final over. FOUR! Full toss for Rawat and he placed it over extra-cover for a boundary. Four singles in the next four deliveries before Rawat plays an uppercut for a boundary to finish the over which also takes RCB over 100.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:08- RCB 90/5 in 14 overs

Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik are looking to rebuild from hereon as there are still six overs left and the duo are not looking for any risky boundary shots. Just seven from Jadeja’s over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 21:03- RCB 83/5 in 13 overs

Another quiet over with just four singles coming from Tushar Deshpande’s over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:52- RCB 79/5 in 12 overs

Mustafizur comes back into the attack. Mustafizur to Kohli, OUT! Ajinkya Rahane covers good ground to take the catch and throws it to boundary rider Rachin Ravindra before sliding over the boundary line. A brilliant presence of mind from Rahane helps CSK get a big fish in Kohli who departs after scoring 21. Anuj Rawat gets off the mark straight away with a single. Mustafizur to Green, OUT! A classic off-cutter from Mustafizur uproots the stumps after Green failed to make the most of the room. Dinesh Karthik is the new batter in at no. seven. He keeps the strike and also gets off the mark with a single as three runs come from this over. Virat Kohli c Ravindra b Mustafizur Rahman 21 (20b 0x4 1×6); Cameron Green b Mustafizur Rahman 18 (22b 1×4 0x6)

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:50- RCB 76/3 in 11 overs

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:49- RCB 75/3 in 10 overs

Theekshana to Kohli, SIX! Virat shuffles and pulls the short ball over deep mid-wicket for the first maximum. Four singles to finish the over.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:45- Virat Kohli reaches 12000 T20 runs

CSK vs RCB, IPL 2024: Virat Kohli completes 12,000 T20 runs during match against Chennai Super KingsVirat Kohli became the first Indian to score 12,000 T20 runs during the IPL 2024 opener between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Chepauk on Friday.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:424- RCB 63/3 in 9 overs

Jadeja continues. FOUR! Green was ready for the length ball and punched it towards short third for his first boundary. Eight from this over and it is time for strategic time out.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:41- RCB 55/3 in 8 overs

Mahesh Theekshana comes back into the attack after three overbreaks. Both Virat and Cam Green watchfully play out the over, taking three singles and two doubles from this over. RCB gets to fifty.

Ruturaj introduces Ravindra Jadeja. He bowls a tidy over and gives just six from it.

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:34- RCB 42/3 in 6 overs

Change of ends for Deepak Chahar. Virat pulls the length ball for a single as the new man in, Glenn Maxwell gets the strike. Deepak to Maxwell, OUT! An enticing line from Deepak and Maxwell fell for it. He opened the face of the bat and edged to Dhoni behind the stumps. CSK is back and how? Cameron Green comes in at no. five and plays out the rest of the over as just one comes from it. RCB gets 42 from the PowerPlay. Glenn Maxwell c Dhoni b Chahar 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:22- RCB 41/2 in 5 overs

So changes from both ends. Mustafizur Rahman replaces Deepak Chahar. FOUR! Length ball on off and du Plessis smashed it over extra cover for his eighth boundary. Mustafizur to du Plessis, OUT! Mustafizur varies with the pace and du Plessis plays a lofted shot over deep point and it is Rachind Ravindra who completes a brilliant catch to give CSK its first breakthrough. Big wicket. In comes the new man, Rajat Patidar at no. three. OUT! He faces two deliveries before edging one out to MS Dhoni and the CSK fans are elated! Mustafizur strikes two in his first over.

Faf du Plessis c Ravindra b Mustafizur Rahman 35 (23b 8×4 0x6); Rajat Patidar c Dhoni b Mustafizur Rahman 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)

  • MARCH 22, 2024 20:21- RCB 37/0 in 4 overs

RCB wins the toss and opts to bat. Faf du Plessis: We’ll bat first. Looks like a good wicket, conditions here are a bat-first wicket. I’m here with RCB and hopefully, we can turn over a very good CSK team. We need to turn up now. Hopefully, injuries don’t bother us too much. Alzarri Joseph comes in tonight, got a few spinners in the middle. And since we are batting first, we’ll see how it goes. Ruturaj Gaikwad: I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes. I got to know last week, Sadly we are missing Conway and Pathirana. We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in. Looks like a good pitch, a hard surface that should hold up well for the second innings. Our four overseas players are Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahesh Theekshana. Sameer Rizvi is making his debut as well.

Is Virat Kohli Missing the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL 2024)?

The inaugural match of the IPL 2024 will take place on March 22 at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai, between the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The explosive batter cleared the air over Virat Kohli’s prolonged absence from the Indian team on February 19, when he announced the birth of his second child.
Having been selected for the Indian team for the first two Test matches, Kohli withdrew, leaving himself out of the remaining three.

The BCCI also respected Kohli’s decision and asked the media to give Kohli privacy.

However, India’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar made a massive comment during a Star Sports promotional event. His comment came as a major heartbreak for the Kohli fans.

Gavaskar questioned on Monday whether the top hitter would participate in the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Shaayad ho sakta hai ke IPL ke liye bhi na khele (Will he play…), kuchh cause ke liye khel nahin rahe hain. For some reason, he’s not playing. When asked whether Kohli would be hungry for runs in the IPL as he would be making his comeback to action following a lengthy sabbatical, Gavaskar responded rather cheekily, “Perhaps he may not play in the IPL as well.”

On March 22 at M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai, the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the IPL 2024.
Notably, RCB will be trying to win the championship this year, and as usual, Kohli’s play will be essential to the team’s success.

Dinesh Karthik to Quit IPL before Announcing International Retirement: Reports

IPL 2024, which is set to begin on March 22 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on RCB in Chennai, is likely to be Dinesh Karthik’s last.

Dinesh Karthik cricketer

Veteran India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is set to end his IPL career after playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season, reported news agency PTI. The 17th season of IPL, which is set to begin on March 22 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on RCB in Chennai, is likely to be Karthik’s last. The 38-year-old is also likely to announce his retirement from international cricket soon.

“This 2024 edition will be his (Dinesh Karthik’s) last IPL. He will decide his international retirement after the IPL,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Karthik last represented India in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022 but he has been an integral part of the RCB set-up for the last two seasons after being bought for 5.5 crore at the auctions that year.

Karthik, who represented six franchises – Daredevils (2008-14), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings – 2011), Mumbai Indians (2012-13), Gujarat Lions (2016-17), Knight Riders (2018-21) and Royal Challengers (2015, 2022-present) – is one of the most capped players of IPL. With 242 appearances, he stands at No.3 in the list behind MS Dhoni (250) and Rohit Sharma (243). He has missed just two IPL games in his entire career which his franchise has been a part of.

Dinesh Karthik’s IPL journey

Karthik is also among only seven cricketers to have featured in every single edition of IPL since its inception in 2008. The others are Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey.

Karthik has had quite a journey in the IPL. He started off with Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2008 before moving to Kings XI Punjab in 2011. He spent the following two seasons with Mumbai Indians before going back to Delhi in 2014 for a price tag of a whopping ₹12.5 crore.

Royal Challengers signed him in 2015 for ₹10.5 crore and he then played for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 before spending four seasons with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

He has led the Kolkata side to IPL playoffs in 2018 and they finished fifth in the points table in 2019.

Ahead of the IPL 2022, Karthik was released by KKR and was bought by RCB for the second time for ₹5.5 crore. He had a stellar 2022 for RCB while mainly playing the role of a finisher.

Karthik made 330 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and an explosive strike-rate of 183.33 that year, a guiding force in RCB’s march to the play-offs.

That run earned Karthik a berth in the India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 held in Australia but he could not shine as expected as Virat Kohli’s side bowed out of semifinals after a defeat against eventual champions England.
