Congress is on high alert amid a dispute over remarks made by Sam Pitroda.

“Sensationalizing” Sam Pitroda’s remarks is intended to “divert attention” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “malicious and mischievous election campaign,” according to Congressman Jairam Ramesh.

Sam Pitroda, the Congress leader, is at the center of a controversy regarding comments he made in an interview.

Delhi, New: Senior party leader Sam Pitroda today fueled the controversy over the BJP’s accusations that the Congress is planning a wealth redistribution, a startling own goal that has put the Congress on the defensive. The fire that the Congress has been attempting to put out was fueled by Mr. Pitroda’s example of an inheritance tax in the United States.
The senior leader’s comments were criticized by the Congress, which stated that they did not represent the party’s viewpoint. The goal of “sensationalizing” Mr. Pitroda’s remarks, according to Congressman Jairam Ramesh, is to “divert attention” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “malicious and mischievous election campaign.”

Additionally, Mr. Pitroda stepped out to clarify that he made the comments in his own capacity. The remarks were misrepresented, he continued, “to divert attention from what lies PM is spreading about the Congress manifesto.” This was regrettable.

“I just brought up the US inheritance tax as an example in my regular TV chat. Is it forbidden for me to state the facts? I mentioned that these are the kinds of topics that people need to talk about and argue. This is unrelated to any party’s or Congress’s policies,” he declared. “Who declared that 55% would be removed? Who declared that such a thing ought to be carried out in India? Why is the media and BJP so terrified?

The Indian Overseas Congress leader, Mr. Pitroda, stated that the prime minister believes the Indian public is easily fooled and manipulable.

“This is not how a prime minister would talk. I mistakenly believed that the video was produced by AI. PM believes that the Indian public is gullible and easily swayed. The law does not exempt him. Congress’s manifesto is incredibly well-written. to declare that they are going to take your mangalsutra and gold. You are inventing your own narratives. I believe that dread may be to blame, as panic started to set in after the first stage. The PM’s remark has infuriated India,” he declared.

He stated that the Congress has consistently prioritized the underprivileged, including OBCs, Muslims, Dalits, and tribal people. Billionaires don’t require our assistance. Our assistance is required by the impoverished. Over the past ten years, inequality has significantly worsened, he claimed.

“This does not imply that you will give away your fortune to someone. This refers to the need to develop new laws in order to stop wealth concentration. It resembles the Monopoly Act, he remarked.

He then gave an American example. “There is an inheritance tax in the United States. If a person is worth $100 million USD, the government will likely take about $55% of his money, leaving just around 45% for his offspring to inherit. What a fascinating law that is. It says that because you are leaving your generation and have amassed fortune, you must leave half of your wealth—not all of it—to the public, which seems fair to me,” he remarked.

It is important to note that there is no federal inheritance tax in the United States. Inheritable assets are subject to taxes in a few states, including Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, and New Jersey. The amount of the inheritance and the deceased person’s relationship determine how much tax is due. This tax can reach about 20% of the inheritance and is only applied beyond a specific level.

According to Mr. Pitroda, this is a matter of policy. The Congress party would present a plan that would improve wealth distribution. In India, there is no minimum wage. The distribution of wealth would occur if the nation established a minimum wage that required people to give the poor a certain amount of money. Rich people today underpay their housekeepers, peons, and servants in favor of taking vacations in Dubai and London, the speaker claimed.

BJP Steps Up Its Attack

The BJP, not one to back down in the midst of an election, took Mr. Pitroda’s comments as an opportunity to intensify their criticism of the Congress. Mr. Shah, the attack’s leader, pleaded with the public to consider Mr. Pitroda’s comments carefully. “Their long-ago schemes have been revealed. Folks ought to pay attention. Additionally, the Congress ought to remove the reference to the survey from its manifesto,” he stated. “Minorities are not our first priority. Poor people, Dalits, tribal people, and underprivileged groups are our top priorities,” he continued.

A video of the interview was tweeted by Himanta Biswa Sarma, the senior BJP leader and chief minister of Assam, with the caption, “Family Advisor is spilling the beans – their intention is ‘organised loot and legalised plunder’ of your hard-earned money.”

Former Congressman Jaiveer Shergill, a BJP spokesperson, declared that the “cat is out of the bag”. “Inheritance tax” similar to US, where government takes 50%+ of your wealth, is what Sam Pitroda, ‘hua to hua’ Fame, Rahul Gandhi’s principal advisor suggests! Losing money, property, and belongings when you vote for Congress! He wrote on X, “Voters beware, property snatchers are here.”

The Firefight in Congress

The moment Mr. Pitroda’s films began to circulate on social media, the Congress went into damage-control mode. “Sam Pitroda has been a mentor, friend, philosopher, and guide to many across the world, including myself,” senior leader Jairam Ramesh said. He has contributed significantly and sustainably to India’s advancements. The Indian Overseas Congress is led by him as its president.”

“Mr. Pitroda freely shares his thoughts on topics he is passionate about. A person is undoubtedly free to discuss, express, and argue his or her own beliefs in a democracy. This does not imply that the Indian National Congress agrees with Mr. Pitroda’s opinions all the time. Frequently, they don’t,” Mr. Ramesh explained.

Twenty-two individuals possess seventy percent of the nation’s wealth. so that you are aware of the policies that have been in place for the last ten years. That’s why social justice is necessary. It is critical to identify the demographic that is made up of Dalits, other castes, and economically disadvantaged groups. “This is the rationale behind the ‘ginti karo’ catchphrase,” he stated.

Congress takes ‘Modi cabinet reunion in Tihar’ dig at PM over corruption remark

PM Modi on Thursday said that strict action was being taken against the corrupt across the country, which prompted the Opposition’s alliance against him.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement that “corrupt will go to jail,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday mocked the BJP-led Central government, claiming that the latter’s cabinet would have a “lovely reunion in Tihar jail” following the Lok Sabha elections.

Will those in charge of this sanctioned corruption likewise wind up behind bars? In Tihar, the Modi Cabinet might get together in style! Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, “#ElectoralBondScam.”

“The Prime Minister has promised that the dishonest will face justice. Recall that there were four corrupt channels involved in the #PayPM Scam: Payments in advance: Chanda Do, Dhanda Lo, Post-paid Bribes: Rishvat Do, Theka Lo, Hafta Vasuli thru ED/IT Raids, Post-raid Extortion: Farzi Companies,” he asserted.

The opposition came together to oppose Prime Minister Modi after he declared on Thursday that tough measures were being taken against corruption nationwide.

Modi is on one side and says that corruption should be eliminated. Those who argue to save the corrupt are on the opposite side. Pay close attention, everyone who has come to defend the corrupt: no matter how many warnings you issue to Modi, the crooked will ultimately have to face justice. “This is Modi’s assurance,” he declared during a rally in Rajasthan.

Regarding the leaks of recruitment exam papers, PM Modi also attacked the former state government headed by the Congress, claiming that the party is “steeped in corruption” and has opportunities to plunder even in positions for young people.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Congress hours after hundreds of lawyers across the country wrote to Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, alleging that a “vested interest group” is trying to put pressure on the judiciary and defame the courts.

PM Modi said that it is a “vintage Congress culture” to browbeat and bully others.

“To browbeat and bully others is vintage Congress culture. 5 decades ago itself they had called for a “committed judiciary” – they shamelessly want commitment from others for their selfish interests but desist from any commitment towards the nation,” PM Modi said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“No wonder, 140 crore Indians are rejecting them,” he added.

“The PM’s brazenness in orchestrating and coordinating an attack on the judiciary, in the name of defending the judiciary, is the height of hypocrisy! The Supreme Court has delivered body blows to him in recent weeks. The Electoral Bonds Scheme is but one example. The Supreme Court declared them to be unconstitutional – and it is now proved beyond doubt that they were a blatant instrument of fear, blackmail, and intimidation to force companies to donate to the BJP,” senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said while retweeting PM’s post.

“Instead of giving a legal guarantee to MSP, the Prime Minister has given a legal guarantee to corruption. All that the Prime Minister has done in the last ten years is divide, distort, divert, and defame. 140 crore Indians are waiting to give him a befitting reply very soon,” he added.

PM Modi vs Congress

Earlier in the day, more than 600 lawyers, including senior advocate Harish Salve and Bar Council chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra, wrote to CJI Chandrachud alleging that a “vested interest group” is trying to put pressure on the judiciary and defame courts, especially in cases of corruption involving politicians.

The letter targeted a section of lawyers without naming them and alleged that they defend politicians by day and then try to influence judges through the media at night.

“We are writing to you expressing our deepest concern on the manner in which a vested interest group is trying to pressure the judiciary, influence judicial process and defame our courts on the basis of frivolous logic and stale political agendas. Their antics are vitiating the atmosphere of trust and harmony, which characterises the functioning of the judiciary. Their pressure tactics are most obvious in political cases, particularly those involving political figures accused of corruption. These tactics are damaging to our courts and threaten our democratic fabric,” the lawyers said in their letter.
