One of the most thrilling IPL tournaments to date is expected to be the 17th edition. The favorites, MS Dhoni and CSK will still be in the running, but Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Titans will still be contenders.
With Hardik Pandya as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians, it will be interesting to watch how Rohit Sharma acclimates to his new position without the extra responsibilities. Virat Kohli, who took a long hiatus to be with his wife for the birth of his second kid, will be back in action in Bengaluru. Ahmedabad now has a new leader as Gujarat Titans’ manager, Shubman Gill, has taken on the role.
In the meantime, Rishabh Pant, the nation’s favorite son, returns to the capital city following an incredible comeback from a potentially fatal injury. Will this be MS Dhoni’s final season? That is still the major issue.
IPL 2024 Points Table
In the Indian Premier League 2024, a win earns two points for each team. Two groups of five players each are formed from the teams. In the league stages, each team plays one match against the other five teams and two against the opponents in their group.
After the league phase, the top four clubs in the IPL 2024 points standings will advance to the playoffs. The top-seeded team in the IPL 2024 standings and the second-placed club will square off in Qualifier 1, with the winner advancing straight to the championship match.
The two teams that place first and second in the points chart are rewarded by the IPL. The third and fourth-placed teams in the points table will square off in the Eliminator, which will determine who advances to the final. The loser of Qualifier 1 will have an additional chance to advance to the championship match.
Over the years, the T20 league has been more competitive due to the additional incentive given to clubs that finish in the top two slots in the IPL Standings.
Chennai and Gujarat faced each other in the final of 2023 after finishing 1-2 on the points table. Chennai defeated Gujarat in Ahmedabad to win the title.
