Check out the entire program for PM Modi’s massive event in the UAE prior to the opening of the country’s first Hindu temple!

 PM Modi mega event

The much awaited ‘Ahlan Modi’ community event, which was scheduled to feature Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, has been significantly scaled back due to unfavourable weather in the UAE, according to a news agency PTI report quoting an official involved in the preparations. The decision to postpone the ‘Ahlan Modi’ (Welcome Modi in Arabic) event was made due to unfavourable weather conditions that included heavy rain and lightning strikes throughout the UAE overnight.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13–14, 2024. As of this Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs announced that PM Modi will have made seven trips to the UAE since 2015, including three in the last eight months.

On February 14, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi during his two-day visit. “One of the most important aspects of PM Modi’s visit to the UAE is the inauguration ceremony of the BAPS temple,” Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated on Monday. In addition, at a gathering in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City, the Prime Minister will speak to the Indian community living there.

PM Modi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, will meet one-on-one. The two leaders will talk about how to further develop, broaden, and fortify their strategic alliance and share their opinions on regional and global matters of shared concern. Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE’s vice president, prime minister, and minister of defence, will meet with PM Modi.

In 2024, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the World Government Summit. He is scheduled to give a special keynote address as the Guest of Honour.

On February 13, he is also expected to speak to the Indian community in the United Arab Emirates at an event held at Zayed Sports City. Over 65,000 people have registered for the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event in Abu Dhabi, according to news agency ANI, indicating an unprecedented level of interest. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled because of the bad weather. Presently, the event is expected to draw between 35,000 and 40,000 people, including those who are presenting cultural programmes.

Later, on February 14, he will officially open the BAPS Mandir, Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple. The BAPS Hindu Mandir is expected to be the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East. The leadership of the UAE kindly donated the 27 acres of land on which the temple is located. In 2015, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, donated 13.5 acres of land for the construction of the mandir.

On February 14, PM Narendra Modi will depart from his two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates and head to the capital city of Doha, Qatar. The news of PM Modi’s trip to Qatar was made public one day after the Gulf state freed eight Indian naval personnel who had been imprisoned. On Monday morning, seven of them left for India.

Ashok Chavan likely to join BJP, day after quitting Congress!

Ashok Chavan is likely to join the BJP today in Mumbai, his office said, as reported by news agency ANI.

Ashok Chavan join bjp

Former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan is likely to join the BJP today in Mumbai, a day after he resigned from the Congress delivering a major blow to the party in the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election which Congress will be fighting as part of INDIA bloc with Uddhav Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. On Monday, Chavan did not specify his future plan and asserted that he was not in talks with any political party but said that he would announce his next step within 48 hours. Speculations were rife that he would join the BJP, but Chavan denied a specific BJP link on Monday and said he did not decide anything.

While Maharashtra Congress has been witnessing big-ticket exits, this is the first that would help BJP directly as Milind Deora and Baba Siddique chose BJP’s allies in Maharashtra — Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP — but not BJP itself.

Rajya Sabha seat for Ashok Chavan?

After Ashok Chavan’s resignation, it was speculated that he might get a Rajya Sabha berth from the BJP. Uddhav Thackeray said it would be disrespectful to martyred soldiers if Chavan is sent to the Rajya Sabha. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier gone to Nanded (Chavan’s home district) and spoken about corruption committed by Ashok Chavan. They had said Chavan disrespected families of the martyred soldiers…But if the prime minister sends him (Chavan) to Rajya Sabha, it will amount to disrespecting our soldiers,” Uddhav said.

“I have resigned from the Assembly membership as an MLA. I have given my resignation to the Speaker. I have resigned from the Congress Working Committee and the Congress primary membership. I have not decided to join any party. I will clear my stand on joining a party after two days,” Chavan told reporters after resigning from Congress.

Congress in a huddle after Ashok Chavan’s resignation

Ashok Chavan’s resignation caught the Congress unawares and now many MLAs are likely to follow Chavan. Maharashtra Congress in-charge Ramesh Chenniyhala has called for a key meeting of the party leaders in Mumbai. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam said Ashok Chavan was not happy with the working style of one of the Congress leaders. The Congress leader in question is Nana Patole.

Jacqueline Fernandez files complaint against Sukesh Chandrashekhar: ‘He is threatening with intimidating tactics’

In her letter, Jacqueline Fernandez urged the police commissioner to intervene immediately in the matter. She said that it threatens her safety.

Jacqueline Fernandez files complaint against Sukesh Chandrashekhar

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez has filed a complaint against alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar for harassing and threatening her from inside a jail. As reported by Indian Express, she filed the case with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. Jacqueline also sent the letter to the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch). A specialised unit has been asked to initiate a preliminary inquiry on the complaint.

What Jacqueline wrote in the letter

In her letter sent a few days ago to the police chief with the subject line: systemic failure in prosecution witness protection, Jacqueline said, “I am responsible citizen, who has found herself inadvertently embroiled in a case that has far-reaching implications for the rule of law and the sanctity of our judicial system. As a prosecution witness in a case registered by the special cell, I write to you amidst a harrowing ordeal of psychological pressure and targeted intimidation campaigns. A man identifying himself as Sukesh is an accused, sitting behind bars in Mandoli Jail, and threatening her with intimidating tactics in open public domain. (sic)”

Jacqueline urged immediate intervention

In her letter, Jacqueline urged the police commissioner to intervene immediately in the matter. She said that it threatens her safety and jeopardises the integrity of the legal processes. She urged that an FIR under IPC sections should be registered against Sukesh to ensure her protection as a prosecution witness in a case under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

These actions do not merely impinge upon my individual rights; they strike at the heart of our justice system. The principle of witness protection, which is fundamental to the administration of justice, has been compromised, undermining the credibility and efficacy of our legal institutions. It is imperative that all communication channels available to the accused be scrutinised and stringent measures be implemented to prevent further abuse, (sic)” she also said.

About the case

In December last year, Jacqueline moved a Delhi court to seek directions to restrain Sukesh from sending letters, messages, or statements to her. Jacqueline is a witness in the FIR being investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) concerning the ₹200 crore money laundering and extortion case linked to Sukesh.

Massive traffic jam at Delhi-Gurugram border ahead of farmers’ protest!

More than 200 farmer unions will be marching to the Capital after the last round of talks with the government remained inconclusive.

Massive traffic jam at Delhi

Vehicular traffic was disrupted in the national capital on Tuesday ahead of the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest march day after their meeting with two Union ministers over their demands remained inconclusive.

Videos shared by news agencies showed vehicles stuck in jam at Delhi-Gurugram border due to the restriction of traffic movement along the borders. The authorities have also restricted traffic movement at Singhu, Ghazipur and Shambhu borders in the capital.

Multi-layered barricading has been enforced at these borders to restrict the protesting farmers from entering the national capital.

“Section 144 is in place. Bringing in tractor trolleys and assemblies is restricted. The Delhi Police and the CAPF are here. We have prepared to seal the border. We will ensure that no one breaks this border. If there is any untoward incident we will seal it completely,” Ankit Singh, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), north east district, told ANI.

On Tuesday, more than 200 farmer unions will be heading to the capital after the last round of talks with the government remained inconclusive.

“We do not think the government is serious on any of our demands. We do not think they want to fulfil our demands…. Tomorrow, we will march towards Delhi at 10 am,” farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had told reporters on Monday.

Union agriculture minister Arjun Munda along with food and consumer affairs minister Piyush Goyal had attended the meeting with the farmers. Munda said that a consensus was reached on most issues and the Centre had proposed that the remaining concerns be addressed through the formation of a committee.

“The government always wants that we can resolve every issue through dialogue…. We are still hopeful and we welcome talks,” Munda was quoted by PTI as saying.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha had announced that more than 200 farmer unions will head to Delhi to press the Centre to accept their demands.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to skip western UP!

The yatra was earlier scheduled to remain in Uttar Pradesh from February 16 to February 26 before entering Rajasthan.

Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has decided to cut short his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh by skipping western part of the state and saving five days, a party leader said on Monday while citing board exams.

The decision follows indications that Samajwadi Party ally and Jayant Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) may join hands with the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson Anshu Awasthi said the duration of the yatra in UP is being reduced in view of the state board examinations for Classes 10 and 12.

The yatra was earlier scheduled to remain in Uttar Pradesh from February 16 to February 26 before entering Rajasthan. However, it will now end on February 21 and enter Madhya Pradesh by skipping western UP.

“Setting an example of sensitivity, Rahul Gandhi ji has given public interest a priority on many occasions. Keeping in mind the UP Board examinations starting from February 22, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will remain in Uttar Pradesh from February 16 to February 21,” Awasthi said in a statement issued here.

“Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had cancelled his rallies in Bengal out of concern for the people during the COVID-19 period,” the spokesperson said.

Elaborating on the schedule of the yatra in UP, Awasthi said it will enter the state through Varanasi on February 16, and then reach Amethi on February 19 via Bhadohi, Prayagraj and Pratapgarh.

On February 19, Gandhi will address a public meeting in Gauriganj in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency and the yatra will reach Rae Bareli the next day from where it will proceed for Lucknow. The participants of the march, including Gandhi, are likely to make a night halt there, he said.

The spokesperson said the yatra will reach Unnao from Lucknow on February 21. It will enter Kanpur via Unnao city and Shuklaganj. Subsequently, it will reach Jhansi via Kanpur and Hamirpur, after which it would enter Madhya Pradesh the same day.

Denying that the recent and sudden shift of the RLD (a part of INDIA bloc) towards the BJP has prompted the party to go back to the drawing board and leave the western UP region, Awasthi said, “The change in the itinerary of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is only in view of the UP Board examination.”

According to the website of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the hybrid bus and foot march was earlier scheduled to reach Bareilly from Lucknow. It would have then gone to Aligarh and Agra before entering Rajasthan.

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra

Asked when Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will be joining the yatra, Awasthi told PTI, “SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is likely to join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Rae Bareli district on February 20 and take part in a road show.

Yadav on February 6 received an invitation to join the yatra. Yadav had said he will join the yatra either in Amethi or in Raebareli.

“Akhilesh Yadav has received an invitation of (Congress president) Mallikarjun Kharge to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which enters UP on February 16. Yadav has given consent to join the yatra either in Amethi or Raebareli,” the SP said in a statement.

Yadav said he expected that the yatra would join the ‘PDA’ strategy of the SP while entering the state and take forward its agitation for “social justice and mutual harmony”.

Donald Trump says ‘Taylor Swift can’t endorse Joe Biden’ – here’s why

Former US President Donald Trump dismisses the possibility of Taylor Swift endorsing Joe Biden, claiming she owes her success to him and the Music Modernization Act!

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump Sunday said there is “no way” global pop star  Taylor Swift can endorse US President Joe Biden for re-election, saying she could not be “disloyal to the man who made her so much money”.

In a post on his social media handle Truth Social, the former US President wrote, “I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will.”

“There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money,” Trump said.

“I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!” he added on Truth Social.

The billionaire global pop star endorsed Biden in the 2020 presidential election when he first faced off against Trump. She has yet to endorse a candidate in this year’s race.

Last month, the Biden administration urged action to remove sexually explicit deep-fakes of Swift that had emerged on social media, Bloomberg reported.

An endorsement from Taylor Swift may influence voters in what’s likely to be a tight presidential race. Polling data show Donald Trump currently leading Biden by 2 percentage points nationwide in a hypothetical head-to-head match, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

Israel rescues 2 hostages from Gaza’s Rafah in overnight operation

In an overnight operation, Israeli forces rescued two hostages from Rafah in Gaza, 128 days after they were captured.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday that two Israeli hostages were rescued from Rafah city in southern Gaza in an overnight operation. More than 100 people still remain in captivity after Hamas took them hostage following the October 7, 2023 attack against Israel.

The two men were rescued from a residential building in the southern border town of Rafah in a raid that also killed at least seven people, according to Palestinian officials. Witnesses reported at least 17 airstrikes, flares and Apache helicopter fire.

The army identified the two rescued hostages as Fernando Simon Marman, 60, and Louis Har, 70, and said both were in good medical condition.

It said both men were kidnapped by Hamas militants from Kibbutz Nir Yizhak in the October 7, 2023 cross-border attack that started the Israel-Hamas war, now in its fifth month. They are just the second and third hostages to be rescued safely.

Lt. Col. Richard Hecht said the operation was based on “precise intelligence”, and that the site, located on the second floor of a building, had been watched for “some time.” He said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined Israel’s military chief and other top officials as the raid unfolded.

Hamas militants killed an estimated 1,200 people and kidnapped 250 others in the October 7 raid that triggered the war. An Israeli air and ground offensive has killed over 28,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials.

Over 100 hostages were freed during a week-long cease-fire in November. Israel says about 100 hostages remain in Hamas captivity, while Hamas is holding the remains of roughly 30 others who were either killed on October 7 or died in captivity. Israel has made the rescue of all hostages one of the main goals of the war.
