Except for users in Europe and Korea, the Memory feature, which was first announced in February, is now accessible to all OpenAI ChatGPT Plus paying users worldwide.

All ChatGPT Plus users can now access OpenAI’s Memory feature, following a restricted deployment in February. OpenAI said that “Memory is now available to all ChatGPT Plus users except those in Europe or Korea” in an update to the “Memory for ChatGPT” blog.
Memory in ChatGPT enables the AI chatbot to either retain or lose important commands and information that the user provides in prompts. According to OpenAI, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to personalize their interactions with the chatbot and do away with the need to repeat information thanks to this functionality.

In February, OpenAI said that the user will get full control over what the AI chatbot should remember from their conversation. Additionally, the company said that users will get the ability to delete a specific memory under the new “Manage Memory” section in settings alongside an option to disable the feature completely.

The user can then hover over the “Memory updated” message and select the “Manage Memory” option to review and change the saved details.

What is Memory for ChatGPT

While using ChatGPT for conversation or assistance, users can ask the chatbot to remember specific details or provide it with instructions that it needs to follow when performing specific tasks in the future. With the Memory feature enabled, ChatGPT will be able to pick up details itself and improve accordingly over time. For example, if you ask ChatGPT to summarise texts in limited words and provide bullet points at the end, it will provide a summary in the requested format every time you ask it to do so in the future.

It should be noted that memories stored with ChatGPT are not restricted to a single conversation and deleting a chat does not erase the memory. If the user wishes to have a conversation without using memories and does not want to disable the feature or erase memories, it can be done on a temporary chat, which is accessible through a drop-down menu from the top of the screen.

The Chinese state broadcaster also reported that Tesla is likely to continue teaming up with tech company Baidu, which licenses mapping data and its lane-level navigation service for FSD. Tesla has been using Baidu for in-car mapping and navigation since 2020.

Data security and compliance were the biggest reasons why the US electric car company did not roll out the FSD in China yet despite launching its most advanced autopilot software four years ago.

Also, Chinese new energy car manufacturers such as BYD, Lotus, Nezha, Li Auto, and Nio have already met the country’s stringent data security policy, which posed tough competition to Tesla.

Tesla’s global vehicle deliveries experienced a decline in the first quarter, marking the first decrease in nearly four years.

According to a New York Times report, “Musk’s fortune is tied to Tesla’s Shanghai factory. The Shanghai factory has replaced Tesla’s plant in Fremont, California, as its largest and most productive, accounting for over half of the company’s global deliveries and the bulk of its profits”.

Meanwhile, a Wall Street Journal report said, “Musk’s response to the pressure has been to become a high-profile cheerleader of China’s ruling Communist Party, in sharp contrast to his renegade persona in the US, where he has clashed with the Securities and Exchange Commission and mocked President Biden in tweets, once calling him a labor union sock puppet”.

WHAT IS FSD TECHNOLOGY?

FSD is the most autonomous version of Autopilot software and was rolled out in 2020. Its features include self-parking, auto lane changes, and traffic navigation. But Tesla says FSD or Autopilot does not make its vehicles autonomous and they require active driver supervision.

Each Tesla vehicle is equipped with multiple external cameras and vision processing software, which the company uses to deliver Autopilot features – an advanced driver assistance system or ADAS.

Autopilot includes what Tesla calls ‘Traffic-Aware Cruise Control’, which matches the speed of the vehicle to that of the surrounding traffic, and ‘Autosteer’, a function that assists in steering within a marked lane, and uses traffic-aware cruise control. FSD, however, is a further upgrade to Autopilot that was launched in 2020 and aims at a driving experience involving minimal driver intervention.

In 2023, Musk said the price of FSD, then at $15,000, was very low, saying the value of the car would increase dramatically if it became autonomous. Last month, Tesla slashed the price of FSD to $8,000 from $12,000 in the US.

DISADVANTAGES OF FSD

Problems range from jumping red lights, and not recognizing pedestrians to situational problems like identifying a cyclist who briefly disappears behind a parked vehicle. Tesla began beta testing its full self-driving system only in 2020.

Tesla relies primarily on car cameras, while humans make predictions based on road situations, which can present a complex problem for computers, such as when someone at the side of the road steps off the pavement and disappears behind a parked bus for a minute or distinguishing between a red signage on a wall versus an actual stop sign, as mentioned in The Indian Express.

India’s EV push is still at a nascent stage

A global shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to EVs presents a massive opportunity for new entrants like India, vying to be a part of the global supply chain. However, India has historically relied on imports of batteries from elsewhere and currently has a fragmented EV supply chain.

According to a Niti Ayog report, the biggest demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) comes from consumer electronics such as laptops, mobile phones, and tablets. The LIB market through EV sales in India was only about 1 GWh (compared to 4.5 GWh for consumer electronics). Taking note of the booming demand for batteries, India is pushing for battery production through the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery storage. ACC is a crucial component of lithium-ion batteries. Niti Ayog says that India is well-positioned to capture a large share of the growing global market and could represent up to 13% of global battery demand by 2030.

Regulatory flip-flops on India’s EV policy

India’s EV policy was released last month after years of flip-flops. In 2018, the then Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that there was no need for an electric vehicle policy and that technology should not be trapped by rules and regulations. In 2018-19, the Centre increased customs duty on CKD (completely knocked down) imports of motor vehicles, motor cars, and motorcycles from 10% to 15%, much to the ire of global automakers. Last month when India finally released its EV policy, it eased duty on completely built-up (CBU) cars with a minimum investment limit for manufacturers of Rs 4,150 crore.

But, there is still opportunity for India

Despite China’s dominance over the EV supply chain, its exports are increasingly coming under scrutiny in Europe and the US, presenting an opportunity for India.

The European Commission in October last year launched an anti-subsidy investigation into the imports of battery electric vehicles (BEV) from China. As per the EC, the investigation will first determine whether BEV value chains in China benefit from illegal subsidization and whether this subsidization causes or threatens to cause economic injury to EV manufacturers in the EU. “Based on the investigation’s findings, the Commission will establish whether it is in the EU’s interest to remedy the effects of the unfair trade practices found by imposing anti-subsidy duties on imports of battery electric vehicles from China,” the EC said.

Occasionally during the 2024 season, MS Dhoni was criticized for what he did in the last over of an IPL match. It was comical as Daryl Mitchell ran all the way to the striker’s end before he was sent back by MS Dhoni. There was ample time for the two batters to take two runs, but Dhoni looked adamant about not giving the strike away in the final over. Much to the delight of the Punjab bowlers, Dhoni failed to connect after Arshdeep bowled a slower one.

However, Dhoni made amends by hitting a huge six into the stands in the cover region in the penultimate delivery of the over to take the score past 160. He was run-out in the final delivery, getting dismissed for the first time in the IPL 2024 season.

Despite Dhoni getting 14 off 11 in a cameo, the former CSK captain was questioned for denying strike to Daryl Mitchell, who is part of New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad.

It was a strange evening for Super Kings and their think tank as Daryl Mitchell, whom they bought for Rs 14 crore, was sent into bat at No. 8 on a pitch that could have helped his style of play.

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings opened the batting with Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad, continuing the pattern they had established throughout the season. In the powerplay, the right-handed duo scored 55 runs in the first six overs, getting their side off to a strong start. Ajinkya Rahane was under added pressure due to the decline in scoring during the powerplay, though, and CSK ultimately lost their first wicket when Harpreet Brar removed the veteran batsman for 29 (24).
