‘UP Ke 2 Ladke’ Akhilesh, Rahul Gandhi Come Together For Nyay Yatra In Agra After Finalising Seat-sharing!

On Wednesday, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and SP chief announced to unitedly contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls under the banner of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc in Uttar Pradesh!

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday joined Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra days after the two parties of the INDIA bloc finalised seat-sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra welcomed the former chief minister for joining the yatra. Yadav had earlier said that he would not join the yatra until an understanding for seat-sharing is reached between the two parties.

According to the agreement, Congress will contest 17 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, which sends the maximum number of lawmakers from any state to the Lower House of Parliament.

POOR FACING INJUSTICE: RAHUL GANDHI

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the public at Agra amidst the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. He said, “If you are poor then you will face injustice in this country 24 hours… The reason for hatred is injustice, so we have added the word justice in our journey.”

Talking about the alliance’s objective for the country, Gandhi said, “It’s been a year since we completed the Bharat Jodo Yatra and walked 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. During that yatra, a person told me that ‘you are trying to open a Mohabbat Ki Dukan in Nafrat Ka Bazaar. Now, this is what we, along with Akhilesh Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are trying to do again.”

INDIA BLOC’S UP DEAL AHEAD OF LS POLLS

As per the deal, Congress will field its candidates in Rai Bareily, Amethi, Kanpur Nagar, Fatehpur Sikri, Bansgaon, Saharanpur, Prayagraj, Maharajganj, Varanasi, Amroha, Jhanshi, Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Sitapur, Barabanki and Deoria Lok Sabha seats.

Rai Bareli and Amethi used to be Congress strongholds for decades. The grand old party, however, lost the Amethi seat to the BJP in the 2019 elections and Sonia Gandhi, who represented Rai Bareli four times in Lok Sabha, will not be seeking re-election from the constituency after she was elected to Rajya Sabha recently.

PM Modi’s jibe at Rahul Gandhi for ‘nashedi yuva’ remark: ‘I was shocked!

In a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi said, “Jinke aapne hosh thhikane nahi hai, wo UP ke, mere kashi ke bachcho ko nashedi keh rahe hai”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he was shocked when he heard the ‘nashedi’ word used to describe the youth of Uttar Pradesh. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi said the prince of the Congress family said UP’s youth are ‘nashedi’. “They spent the decade abusing Modi. But now they are talking out their frustration on the people. Jinke aapne hosh thhikane nahi hai, wo UP ke, mere kashi ke bachcho ko nashedi keh rahe hai (those who are not in their senses are calling UP’s youth addicts)” PM Modi said strongly condemning the comment which Rahul Gandhi recently made during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

Now that Uttar Pradesh is progressing, the ‘yuvraj’ of the Congress family said that the youth of Uttar Pradesh are addicts. What is this language,” PM Modi said adding that no one will forget this insult of the youth by the INDI alliance. “A person who belongs to a dynasty is always threatened by the common youth force. They only like those who always praise them. And now they have another reason to not like Uttar Pradesh after Ram Mandir’s inauguration. They do not like the new face of Kashi and Ayodhya. I did not know Congress had so much hatred towards Lord Ram. They can’t see or think beyond their family and vote bank,” PM Modi said.

On the INDIA bloc, PM Modi said they come together before every election and then abuse each other after they get ‘nil battey sannata’. “But they do not know that this time they will have to struggle to save even their deposits. UP has also decided to give all seats to NDA. The third term of Modi will be the strongest one in which India will see a new horizon in all aspects. India will become the third largest economy in the next five years,” PM Modi said.

Why Rahul Gandhi said UP youth are ‘drunk, addict’

When Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally in Amethi when his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was passing through his former constituency, he raised the issue of unemployment. “You (the youth of the country) have no work. You are only waving posters seeking employment (he showed one such poster held by a worker standing beside him). I saw in Varanasi that young men were lying on the road drunk. This is UP’s future — drinking and dancing on the road at night. On the other hand, there is Ram Mandir. You will see Ambani, Adani there but not a backward, not a Dalit. Why? Because that is not your place. Your place is on the street begging for jobs. Their work is to count money.”

It was the same speech in which Rahul Gandhi asked a media person whether the owner of his company was an OBC or a Dalit. Then Rahul Gandhi called the media person near him and said, “His owner is a billionaire and will never publish news about Dalit, unemployment. Paper leak, price rise, unemployment are your future.”

US to impose sanctions on 500 targets in Russia to mark Ukraine war anniversary

The United States will impose sanctions on over 500 targets on Friday in action marking the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Deputy US Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo told Reuters in an interview on Thursday.

The action, taken in partnership with other countries, will target Russia’s military industrial complex and companies in third countries that facilitate Russia’s access to goods it wants, Adeyemo said, as Washington seeks to hold Russia to account over the war and the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Alexei Navalny

“Tomorrow we’ll release hundreds of sanctions just here in the United States, but it’s important to step back and remember that it’s not just America taking these actions,” Adeyemo said.

The package will be the latest of thousands of sanctions targeting Moscow announced by the United States and its allies following Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which has killed tens of thousands and destroyed cities.

The new penalties come as the US and its allies look to maintain pressure on Russia, despite doubts over whether the US Congress will approve additional security assistance for Kyiv.

President Joe Biden’s administration has exhausted money previously approved for Ukraine, and a request for additional funds is languishing in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

“Sanctions and export controls are geared towards slowing Russia down, making it harder for them to fight their war of choice in Ukraine,” Adeyemo said.

“But ultimately, in order to speed Ukraine up, to give them the ability to defend themselves, Congress needs to act to give Ukraine the resources that they need and the weapons they need.”

Experts have warned that the sanctions are not enough to stop Moscow’s attacks.

“What Congress does to pass additional military assistance to Ukraine is going to matter far, far more than anything else they could do on the sanctions front,” Peter Harrell, a former National Security Council official, said.

The Treasury Department in December said Russia’s economy had been hit by the sanctions, contracting by 2.1% in 2022.

Russia’s economy is over 5% smaller than had been predicted prior, Rachel Lyngaas, the Chief Sanctions Economist, said on Treasury’s website, opens new tab.

Still, Russia’s economy has performed above expectations, with the International Monetary Fund in January forecasting, opens new tab 2.6% GDP growth for 2024 – a 1.5 percentage point upgrade from an October estimate – after solid 3.0% growth in 2023.

But IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack said on Thursday it was “clear that Russia is now in a war economy,” with military expenditures boosting weapons production, government social transfers propping up consumption and inflation that is rising, despite declines elsewhere.

What is Popcorn lung, a rare condition caused by vaping? Know signs and symptoms

Vaping can expose one to a mix of harmful chemicals and flavouring which can seriously damage lung health. All you want to know about popcorn lung.

harmful chemicals

Vaping may seem like a less harmful substitute to traditional smoking, but it can cause serious damage to the lungs. Unfortunately, e-cigarettes are gaining popularity with each passing year among youth, a disturbing trend which can wreak havoc with people’s lungs. Vaping can expose one to nicotine, ultrafine particles, flavourings such as diacetyl, cancer-causing chemicals, heavy metals such as nickel, tin, and lead, which can be harmful to respiratory health. Popcorn lung, or bronchiolitis obliterans, is a rare lung disease, which can cause damage to the tiny airways in lungs and can lead to scar tissue formation, blocking airways. People with this condition have symptoms like coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. There is no cure to popcorn lung as the damage done to lungs cannot be reversed but the symptoms can be managed, and further damage can be prevented.

What is popcorn lung?

“Popcorn lung, or bronchiolitis obliterans, is a rare lung disease that harms the small air sacs and passages in the lungs, known as bronchioles. This damage causes the formation of scar tissue, which can block the airways and make it hard to breathe. This condition gained attention when it was associated with workers in a microwave popcorn plant, particularly those involved in flavouring the popcorn. Also vaping is another important cause along with other conditions like connective tissue diseases. important component linked to the development of bronchiolitis obliterans has been found as the inhalation of diacetyl, a chemical used to provide a buttery flavour,” says Dr Arunesh Kumar, Sr Consultant & Head – Respiratory Medicine, Paras Health, Gurugram.

As e-cigarette usage continues to rise, it can cause various lung diseases, including bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) or popcorn lung. You will be shocked to know that diacetyl found in e-cigarettes can lead to inflammation and permanent scarring in the airways, resulting in breathing difficulties related to popcorn lung. This is how vaping can further impact your lungs. Lipoid pneumonia caused by vaping is different from typical pneumonia and happens when fatty acids enter the lungs instead of an infection. Inhaling oily substances from e-liquid triggers inflammation in the lungs, and one may experience symptoms such as persistent cough, difficulty breathing, and coughing up blood or blood-tinged mucus. Primary spontaneous pneumothorax, or collapsed lung, occurs when there is a hole in the lung that allows oxygen to leak out. Smoking and vaping have been linked to an increased risk of rupturing these blisters, leading to lung collapse,” says Dr Samir Garde, Director of Dept of Pulmonology and Lung Transplant, Global Hospitals, Parel.

When heated and inhaled, diethyl has been related to lung damage to the tiny airways, which can result in scar tissue formation and subsequent airway blockage. Although popcorn lung is uncommon, those who have it may experience severe symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

Who’s at risk?

People who might get popcorn lung include those around diacetyl or other harmful chemicals, those who had a lung transplant, those with serious respiratory infections, and those with autoimmune diseases, says Dr Arunesh.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Prakash, Consultant, Respiratory & Sleep Medicine, Medanta, Gurugram shares the common causes of popcorn lung:

Chemical exposure: Inhaling harmful chemicals is the primary culprit. Diacetyl, once used in buttery flavourings, was initially the main concern. However, other chemicals like acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, and acrolein, found in various settings like food processing, chemical manufacturing, and e-cigarette vaping, can also contribute.

Inflammatory response: Sometimes, lung inflammation triggered by various factors, including chemical exposure or autoimmune diseases, can damage and scar the small airways over time, leading to popcorn lung.

What are the signs and symptoms of popcorn lung?

“The symptoms of BO such as coughing, wheezing, chest pain, and shortness of breath can be managed with appropriate treatments. It is important to consult the doctor on noticing the symptoms without any delay. Smoking and vaping have been linked to an increased risk of rupturing these blisters, leading to lung collapse,” says Dr Samir.

According to Harvard Health, the common symptoms of popcorn lung include wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing that is not related to an asthma attack or cold. These sensations often get worse with time and can get worse while you’re physically active. Early detection of these symptoms is essential for an efficient diagnosis and course of care.

Diagnosis

Dr Ashish says early diagnosis is crucial for managing popcorn lung effectively.

Doctors typically consider:

Medical history and physical examination: Discussing symptoms and potential exposure to harmful substances.

Lung function tests: Measuring lung capacity and airflow to assess lung function.

Forced oscillometry (FOT) or Impulse oscillometry is also one of the new diagnostic modalities to find out the small airway disease.

Imaging tests: Chest X-rays or CT scans to visualize potential abnormalities.

Bronchoscopy: Inserting a flexible tube with a camera through the airways to examine and collect tissue samples for biopsy.

Treatment or management of popcorn lung

Dr Arunesh says popcorn lung can be managed with various methods from drugs to oxygen therapy.

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs like prednisone to reduce swelling.
  • Breathing aids through inhalers, like albuterol.
  • Oxygen therapy.
  • In very severe cases, a lung transplant might be considered, but it’s only recommended as a last resort.

“When it comes to treating vaping-related conditions such as popcorn lung, early detection and intervention are crucial. While there is no specific cure for popcorn lung, treatment options focus on managing symptoms and preventing further damage. In severe cases, lung transplantation may be considered as a last resort. One promising approach in the treatment of popcorn lung is pulmonary rehabilitation, which includes exercise, education, and emotional support to improve lung function and overall quality of life. Avoiding exposure to harmful chemicals found in e-cigarettes and other vaping products will prevent further damage to the lungs. It is important to be aware of the potential risks associated with these products and seek medical help if they experience any respiratory symptoms. By prioritizing lung health and making informed choices about vaping habits, one can reduce their risk of developing popcorn lung and other serious health complications,” says Dr Garde.

Before the festivities begin on March 1, let us tell you about the expensive gifts that Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani have given to their future daughter-in-law Radhika Merchant, so far.

Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani, who reportedly gifted Akash Ambani’s wife Shloka Mehta, a Rs 451 crore necklace, Mouawad L’Incomparable, one of the most expensive necklaces in the world, would definitely bestow the same amount of love on their future daughter-in-law, Anant Ambani’s fiance Radhika Merchant.

Mukesh Ambani who is the richest man in India with a net worth of $113 billion (approximately Rs 9,43,091 crore) is currently prepping for the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant which will be held in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Radhika Merchant was welcomed into the family by Nita Ambani with a beautiful silver Laxmi-Ganesh gift hamper. The hamper included two silver Tulsi pots with a silver incense stick stand and a Lakshmi-Ganesh idol set.

Radhika Merchant and Anant Ambani got engaged in January 2023 and on that day, the couple was gifted with a Bentley Continental GTC Speed worth around Rs 4.5 crore by Mukesh Ambani.

Mukesh Ambani (Indian Businessman) Biography

Bentley Continental GTC Speed is one of the most luxurious cars in the world and is owned by very few other celebrities including Virat Kohli, Aamir Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others.

Many are unaware that Radhika Merchant, like her soon-to-be mother-in-law Nita Ambani, is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer. In 2022, in Radhika’s honour, the Ambani family arranged an Arangetram ceremony at The Grand Theater, Jio World Center, in Mumbai. Radhika completed her classical dance training under the guidance of Guru Bhavana Thakar.

Radhika Merchant and Nita Ambani seem to share a close bond. This can be the reason why Nita gifted Radhika her beautiful pearl and diamond choker which she wore at the cocktail ceremony of Mukesh Ambani’s niece, Isheta Salgaocar. Nita Ambani earlier wore the same neckpiece at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding reception.

RBI has taken these Eight Steps to keep your digital payments safe!

For the promotion of safe digital transactions among the general public, RBI has reiterated that users should take care by not sharing their card details, password, PIN, OTP, CVV, UPI-PIN, etc., with anyone

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) gives the highest importance to the security controls around the digital payment systems in India. There is a lot of emphasis on the safety and security of digital transactions for their users. “In an era of digital transformation, RBI has taken significant strides to ensure the sanctity and safety of digital payments. By implementing specific OTPs for new payees, individual OTPs for high-value transactions, and limited OTP time windows, their measures, including the use of advanced encryption and authentication technologies, second channel notifications, and risk-based transaction monitoring, underscore a commitment to fostering a secure, reliable, and resilient digital payments ecosystem,” said Kunal Varma, CEO and Co-Founder, Freo.

The central bank has put in place several mechanisms to ensure customer awareness through digital, print, and audio-visual media through the flagship program “RBI Kehta Hai.”

RBI has issued master directions on digital payment security controls to all banks and regulated entities to have necessary controls to protect the confidentiality and integrity of customer data.

“For the promotion of safe digital transactions among the general public, RBI has reiterated that users should take care by not sharing their card details, password, PIN, OTP, CVV, UPI-PIN, etc., with anyone. Also, to avoid undertaking financial transactions through publicly available free Wi-Fi networks. Users are advised not to store important banking data on their mobile, e-mail, electronic wallet, or purse,” said Shikhar Aggarwal, Chairman of BLS E-Services.

Steps taken by RBI to make digital payments safe

1)For adding new payees, specific OTPs are needed from a secondary channel, making the process more secure.

2)New OTPs are required for high-value transactions, enhancing security for important financial dealings.

3)The time limit for OTPs is closely managed to reduce the chance of misuse.

4)Using digital signatures and Key-based Message Authentication Codes (KMAC) to identify and stop unauthorized transactions.

5)Educating customers about their rights as per the Consumer Protection Act and the responsibilities and risks linked with internet banking.

6)Informing customers via an alternate method for transactions exceeding a value specified by the customer

7)Teaching customers how to react to SSL or EV-SSL certificate alerts to avoid falling victim to phishing. An SSL certificate error happens when a web browser is unable to verify the installed SSL certificate on a website.

8)Introducing systems to assess transaction patterns and highlight unusual activities, ensuring that transactions align with the customer’s typical behaviour.

Unions continue to rise in protest over the farmer’s passing!

The death of a 21-year-old protester at the Punjab-Haryana border appeared to galvanise disparate farm unions on Thursday as cultivator groups upped the ante of their two-week-long protests, demanding murder charges against the police, as well as the chief minister and home minister of Haryana, and announcing a slew of new joint programmes.

All eyes are now on whether the unions decide to resume their attempted march to the national capital after a two-day pause, announced due to the death of Bathinda resident Shubh Karan Singh, ends on Friday.

Also Read: Live Updates on the Farmers’ Protest: “We don’t have any issues in,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur declares!

The call for intensified protests – including a “Jan Aakrosh” rally on Friday, a nationwide tractor rally on highways on February 26, and a mahapanchayat in Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on March 14 – was given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) which had till Thursday stayed away from the stir.

“Haryana Police entered Punjab, fired at us and also broke our tractors. A case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code should be registered against the Haryana CM and Haryana’s home minister. A judicial inquiry should be conducted. On March 14, a mahapanchayat of farmers will be held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi,” said SKM leader Balbir Singh Rajewal after a meeting of the powerful union – which forced the roll-back of three contentious farm laws in 2021 – in Chandigarh.

The current agitation, which began on February 13, was led by a splinter group of the SKM, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political), and the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangh Committee (KSMC). But SKM’s decision to initiate protests indicated that the death of Singh – the first such casualty due to direct police action across the 2020-21 farm stir and the ongoing agitation – had brought together, at least temporarily, feuding farm unions.

KSMC head Sarwan Singh Pandher said separately that the cultivators will be open to talks with the government, but only if a legal guarantee for crop minimum support price (MSP) was on the agenda.

“We have not received any invitation for another round of talks with the Union government. If we get an invite, we will consider only if the agenda of the meeting is a legal guarantee to MSP. We are open for talks,” said Pandher.

He also accused Haryana security personnel of entering into the Punjab territory and using “force” against farmers at Khanauri border point. “We want the Punjab government to register a case under Section 302,” said Pandher.

The farmer leader added that the groups will discuss within themselves on when to resume their protest. “The protest is going on very peacefully. We – all the farmer leaders – will hold a meeting on the future course of action of the protest. Only after assessing the situation at Khanauri, where hundreds of farmers have been hurt, will we be able to take a decision on our next action in the ongoing protest,” said Pandher.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the leader of SKM (non-political), has been admitted to Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, where he demanded that the Punjab government give Singh the status of a martyr.

Thousands of farmers have been camped at the Punjab-Haryana border since last week, demanding a law on minimum support prices (MSP) for 23 crops and other pro-cultivator measures. But four rounds of talks gave way to violence on Wednesday, leading to the deadliest clashes since the stir was first announced on February 13.

The two Punjab-Haryana border points – Khanauri and Shambhu – were the epicentre of the clashes as police personnel fired tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons to scatter the farmers trying to march to Delhi, days after they rejected a government offer on prices for their produce, prompting an offer of fresh talks. The post-mortem of the 21-year-old Shubh Karan Singh — whose dead body has been kept in the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital — could not be conducted on Thursday as farmer leaders have demanded that Punjab government should give the status of a martyr to Shubhkaran.

Even as unions leading the protest were busy organising Singh’s funeral, the stir got a boost as the SKM announced a series of protests. A case of murder should be registered over the death of the farmer at Khanauri border and his family be given ₹1 crore in compensation, Rajewal told reporters.

The SKM announcement came after the meeting in Chandigarh where it also decided to burn effigies of Union home minister Amit Shah and his Haryana counterpart Anil Vij to condemn the police action.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh Ugrahan condemned the “repression” of farmers sitting at Shambhu and Khanauri. Farm leader Rakesh Tikait said a tractor march will be taken out on highways on February 26 and accused Khattar and Vij of “orchestrating” the attack on protesters.

Besides MSP, the farmers from Punjab are also demanding the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations on farm prices, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in electricity tariffs, and repealing of police cases filed during the 2021 agitation.

The government, meanwhile, cited the fresh hike in cane prices to contend it was committed to farmers’ welfare. “India is paying the highest price for sugarcane in the world,” Union minister for information and broadcasting Anurag Thakur said, briefing reporters on Thursday.

The two sides have held talks four times. During the last one, the government offered an assured, five-year purchasing contract with various cooperative societies. All of the talks ended in an impasse, with the latest prompting the cultivators to resume their stir.

Urging farmers to resume negotiations, Thakur said the government was “ready for talks earlier and (we) are ready even today and will be ready to discuss their issues even today”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, said his administration was committed to farmers, although he did not allude to the agitation on the Haryana-Punjab border directly. “Our government is committed to fulfil every resolve related to the welfare of our farmer brothers and sisters across the country,” Modi posted on X earlier on Thursday, and referred to a cabinet decision on Wednesday to raise the floor price that mills must pay for sugar cane by 8%.

Later on Thursday, while addressing a large gathering of mostly cattle-rearers and farmers at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera, Modi said listed government schemes meant to help them.

“We are giving priority to each and every aspect of villages and our focus is on improving the lives of small farmers, on improving the health of livestock and how farmers get more income through allied activities such as fishing and bee-keeping. That is why we have decided to give Kisan credit cards to fishermen and cattle-rearers, too,” he said.
