Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ Becomes India’s ‘Most Expensive’ Film Yet with $100 MILLION Budget

Over the past year and a half, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has been one of the most talked-about projects in Indian cinema. This ambitious film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is set to redefine Bollywood with its staggering budget of $100 million (Rs. 835 crores), making it the costliest Indian film ever. Media reports, including those from Bollywood Hungama, said on Tuesday that sources close to the project have confirmed that Ramayana: Part One has been allotted this enormous budget. “Ramayana is not just a film but an emotion. The makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a global spectacle.”

Is Ranbir’s Ramayana India’s Costliest Film In The Making?

Namit Malhotra, who is known for his global experience in the film industry, is heavily involved in ensuring that Ramayana meets the highest standards of visual excellence. “The $100 million [Rs. 835 crore] budget is only for Ramayana: Part One. The plan is to expand further as the franchise grows,” the source added. “The goal is to provide audiences with a visual treat, with Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram.”

First Human Kidney Transplant Patient From Pig Dies: What is the Purpose of Using Pigs in Xenotransplantation?

Ranbir Kapoor previous high-budget film, Brahmastra, was made on a budget of Rs. 450 crores and was the most expensive Hindi film at the time of its release in 2022. With Ramayana, Kapoor is set to surpass not only his own record but also set new benchmarks for the entire Hindi film industry. “The film requires 600 days of post-production work, which speaks volumes about the investment needed to create some of the most original visuals ever seen. The aim is to elevate Indian cinema to a global level,” the source explained.

Ramayana will also feature KGF star Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita, adding to the film’s star-studded cast.

The news of Ramayana’s massive budget and grand scale has sparked a variety of reactions on social media.

On Reddit, one user commented, “It is risk management. Ramayana is one of those stories that is guaranteed to work even if the movie is average. Adipurush is arguably the worst rendition of Ramayana and it made 354 crores at the box office. If it was any other story, it would have made less than 100 crores. Indians are very religious.”

Another user expressed a desire for more diverse adaptations: “Let’s wait and see what comes out. And yes, I also think we need to see adaptations of other stories too—perhaps this Ramayana will inspire a whole franchise based on Hindu scriptures.”

The trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, was just released. The movie is scheduled to open on May 31. Director Sharan Sharma has, however, released a pair of images showing Janhvi’s cricket learning experience ahead of the film’s release. He wrote a lengthy note as well. It also shows the actress responding to it.

Taking to his Instagram handle, Sharan Sharma shared photos in which we can see Janhvi wearing casuals and holding a cricket bat. In the second she is seen batting like a cricketer. He wrote, “2021 vs 2024 … the first image was clicked in June 2021. Moments after I narrated the script of Mr & Mrs Mahi to JK I asked her to pick up a bat and take stance. As I clicked this picture I was proper scared … her stance was terrible … she knew nothing about the sport … how were we going to pull this off? … I then met 2 magicians @abhisheknayar and @vikrant_yeligeti who turned this impossible dream into reality. Extremely grateful that they came on board and took up this challenge! Super proud of JK’s cricketing skills we have managed to achieve in the film! Will post some more during the next few days about what all it took to get from Image 1 to Image 2!”

Janhvi reacted, “2 yrs 9 kilos 2 dislocations and many fights later. Wouldn’t have done it any other way. Still the most special journey.”

The heartwarming trailer showcases Rajkummar Rao as Mahendra (Mahi), a former aspiring cricketer who now sees potential in Janhvi’s character, also named Mahi, a doctor. Encouraging her to pursue cricket, the trailer provides a captivating look into a story filled with dreams, ambitions, and the imperfectly perfect love story of Mahendra and Mahima that is sure to captivate audiences.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Janhvi had earlier revealed that she underwent a gruelling six months of intensive training in order to adapt to the mannerisms of a cricketer. The actress had said, “It was an exhaustive process of six months to get into the skin of the character and sync into the role.”

First Human Kidney Transplant Patient From Pig Dies: What is the Purpose of Using Pigs in Xenotransplantation?

Richard Slayman got the First Human Kidney Transplant Patient in March this year. Why are xenotransplantations done, and what complications can arise due to them? We explain.

About two months after the procedure, on Saturday, May 11, the first recipient of a modified pig kidney transplant passed away. The transplant operation was not connected to the death of 62-year-old Richard “Rick” Slayman, according to his family or the Massachusetts General Hospital, where the treatment was carried out.

The hospital released a statement saying, “We have no indication that it (Slayman’s death) was the result of his recent transplant.” Noting that “their enormous efforts leading the xenotransplant gave our family seven more weeks with Rick,” his family also expressed gratitude to the doctors for their work.

We explain what the procedure is, the promise it holds, and the complications associated with it.

Zomato Q4 Results: Blinkit Section “Turned Adjusted EBITDA Positive”; Profit at Rs 175 Crore.

What is xenotransplantation?

According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “Xenotransplantation is any procedure that involves the transplantation, implantation or infusion into a human recipient of either (a) live cells, tissues, or organs from a nonhuman animal source, or (b) human body fluids, cells, tissues or organs that have had ex vivo contact with live nonhuman animal cells, tissues or organs.”

Essentially, it is the use of animal cells and organs to heal humans. Xenotransplantation involving the heart was first tried in humans in the 1980s. The need for such a procedure was felt because of the significant gap between the number of transplantations needed by patients and the availability of donor organs.

A 2024 article in Nature notes: “In the United States alone, there are nearly 90,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant, and more than 3,000 people die every year while still waiting.”

The website of Columbia University’s Department of Surgery also points to evidence of neurodegenerative disorders and diabetes being treated with the help of animal cells and tissues.

Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar Former Deputy Chief Minister, Passes Away at 72

How does xenotransplantation happen?

In 2023, Dr. Robert Montgomery, the chief of New York University Langone’s Transplant Institute, told Associated Press that sewing a pig kidney into a donated body isn’t much different than a regular transplant, and “post-surgery immune-suppressing drugs are standard, too.”

But there are several crucial additional steps. For one, the animal organ selected has to undergo genetic modifications, so that the human body does not reject it.

A report from the Harvard Medical School, whose physicians were involved in Slayman’s operation, said 69 genomic edits were made to the pig kidney in his case. The gene editing technology CRISPR-Cas9 was employed to “Remove certain pig genes that produce sugars with antibodies our immune systems react to” and “Add certain human genes to improve the kidney’s compatibility with humans.”

Even after the operation, constant monitoring needs to be done to check the body’s response to the organ.

Has Rahul Dravid Quit? ‘Growing a World Class Indian Cricket Team’ is the BCCI Established Objective for a New Coach.

Why are pigs often used for xenotransplantation?

Pig heart valves have been used for replacing damaged valves in humans for over 50 years now. The pig’s anatomical and physiological parameters are similar to that of humans, and the breeding of pigs in farms is widespread and cost-effective.

Also, many varieties of pig breeds are farmed, which provides an opportunity for the size of the harvested organs to be matched with the specific needs of the human recipient.

In January 2022, the first xenotransplantation of a genetically-modified pig heart was done. However, the patient passed away after two months due to a range of factors, including being tainted with a latent virus in the pig heart, which may have contributed to the dysfunction of the transplant.

In Mumbai, a Hoarding Collapse Incident Resulted in 9 Deaths and 70 Injuries.

What are the complications in xenotransplantation?

First, it has to be ensured that the body does not reject the organ. According to the NYU Langone website, one method of doing this is embedding the pig’s thymus gland, responsible for “educating” the immune system, underneath the outer layer of the kidney. This helps keep away any new or delayed immune responses.

The FDA also notes concerns of potential infection of recipients with both “recognised and unrecognised infectious agents and the possible subsequent transmission to their close contacts and into the general human population.”

Another public health concern is the possibility of cross-species infection by retroviruses, “which may be latent and lead to disease years after infection.”

Indian Army Officer Killed in Strike on UN Vehicle in Rafah.

The officer, who attended the National Defence Academy, was commissioned in the army in 2000 and chose a few years ago to retire early.

The first international UN staff member to die since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas conflict was an Indian Army officer who had worked for the UN Department of Safety and Security (DSS). He was murdered when his vehicle was targeted in Rafah, Gaza.

The UN confirmed on Tuesday that a staff member of the DSS was killed and another was injured when their UN vehicle was “struck” as they travelled to the European Hospital in Rafah on Monday. Condemning all attacks on UN personnel, Secretary-General António Guterres called for a full investigation.

Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar Former Deputy Chief Minister, Passes Away at 72

The identity of the deceased DSS staff member was not revealed but people familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity that he was a former infantry officer of the Indian Army.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the officer was commissioned in the army in 2000 and had opted for premature retirement a few years ago, the people said. He had begun working for the DSS a short while ago, they said.

Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said the UN was gathering information on the incident. He confirmed that the security personnel killed was an international staff member, marking the first such UN death in the Gaza conflict. “Of UN staff, I believe I’ve not been previously aware of an international casualty,” he said.

There was no immediate word from Indian officials on the development. The Indian side has called for an immediate end to the fighting, release of hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 terror attacks last year, resumption of humanitarian aid, and a return to dialogue aimed at a two-state solution.

Guterres said in a post on X that a UN vehicle “was struck in Gaza, killing one of our colleagues & injuring another”. More than 190 UN staff members have been killed in Gaza, he added.

“Humanitarian workers must be protected. I condemn all attacks on UN personnel and reiterate my urgent appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire & the release of all hostages,” Guterres said.

Haq said Guterres had called for a full investigation. “He sends his condolences to the family of the fallen staff member,” he added.

In Mumbai, a Hoarding Collapse Incident Resulted in 9 Deaths and 70 Injuries.

He said the UN vehicle was headed to the European Hospital in Rafah as part of the “regular work” of DSS staff going to different locations to assess security conditions.

Separately, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA, reported another of its staff members was killed in the war, taking the total number to 188. The senior projects officer was killed on Sunday in an Israeli strike in the central town of Deir Al Balah, after leaving Rafah.

In April, seven volunteers of the World Central Kitchen were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza. Among the dead was Zomi Frankcom, who was of Indian origin.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that between October 7, 2023 and May 12, 2024, at least 35,091 Palestinians have been killed and 78,827 injured in Gaza.

The October 7 terror attacks by Hamas killed some 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals.

Has Rahul Dravid Quit? ‘Growing a World Class Indian Cricket Team’ is the BCCI Established Objective for a New Coach.

For a position that will last until December 2027 as Team India’s head coach, the BCCI is accepting candidates. Age restriction, playing experience, and coaching experience are requirements for eligibility. In every format, the coach is supposed to be the team’s leader.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially invited applications for the next head coach of the men’s national team. Notably, current head coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure came to an end after last year’s ODI World Cup, but was later extended until June in view of the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

According to BCCI, the new head coach will have a three-and-a-half-year tenure, starting immediately after the T20 World Cup and ending in December 2027, just after the conclusion of the next ODI World Cup.

Announcing the update in a release, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated, “The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the position of Head Coach of the Senior Men’s Team. Applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.”

What is the eligibility for applying to be India’s next head coach?

The BCCI has stated that to be eligible for the post of Team India head coach, candidates should be under the age of 60, have played a minimum of 30 Tests or 50 ODIs and have held a similar position with a full member Test nation for a minimum of two years. The Indian Cricket Board has also made it clear that it is looking for one coach to lead Team India in all three formats, meaning that the BCCI isn’t in favour of a split coaching system like the one adopted by the English and Pakistan cricket boards.

Explaining the responsibilities of the new head coach in a release, BCCI stated, “The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a world-class Indian cricket team which delivers sustained success in all conditions and formats, inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”

Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Jhon Duran two late goals put Unai Emery’s side on brink of Champions League

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Two goals from Colombian substitute Jhon Duran saw Aston Villa salvage a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Villa Park. Unai Emery’s side are now five points clear of Tottenham in the race for fourth as Jurgen Klopp is denied victory in penultimate Liverpool game

hon Duran came off the bench to score twice and earn Aston Villa a 3-3 draw with Liverpool that all but ensures they will play Champions League football next season.

Emiliano Martinez’s early own goal was the worst possible start for Villa but they equalised through Youri Tielemans only for Cody Gakpo to restore Liverpool’s advantage midway through the first half. Jarell Quansah added a third early in the second.

That came after Diego Carlos produced an extraordinary miss from near the goal-line that would have levelled it, while Ollie Watkins also had one disallowed for offside. But Duran’s spectacular intervention turned the tide late on to salvage a point for Unai Emery’s side.

The comeback means that anything less than victory for Tottenham at home to Manchester City on Tuesday evening would mean Villa are certain of fourth. It was a dramatic if unwanted finale for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his final away game in charge.

The course of the drama

The world’s top scorer, Martinez, had been introduced by the Aston Villa announcer, but it took Argentina World Cup champion 62 seconds to be humbled in front of the Holte End, as he pushed the ball into his own net to give Liverpool the lead.

Even though Pau Torres diverted Harvey Elliott’s cross, the custodian should have had an easy time stopping it. Rather, he attempted to grab the ball, failed, and let it strike his chest. He grabbed it from behind him and shoved it in out of panic. A massive mistake.

Team news

  • Aston Villa brought Youri Tielemans into their team after recovering from a knock – the only change from the defeat in Greece with Matty Cash not in the squad.
  • Jurgen Klopp made one change to the Liverpool side who beat Tottenham with Joe Gomez filling in at left-back with Andy Robertson unavailable.

Mohamed Salah went close soon after but it was brilliant play from Watkins that brought Villa level. He outwitted Quansah in the left channel, pulling the ball back for Tielemans to lash in the equaliser. It was an unusually open start but that continued throughout.

Liverpool’s comeback to take the lead was highlighted when Gakpo tapped home the cross after Luis Diaz found Joe Gomes on the overlap. The finish at the opposite end was very simple, but Diego Carlos managed to miss that opportunity for some reason.

It was one for the ages, an expected-goals value of 0.99. Leon Bailey squared the ball to leave Watkins with the simple task of stroking into the vacant net but the Brazilian arrived at speed to nick it off his toe and inexplicably divert the ball wide of the far post.

Emery could not believe it and he was just as frustrated when Moussa Diaby went clean through just before half-time only to shoot high and wide of the goal. Villa paid for that profligacy immediately after the restart when Quansah put Liverpool two up.

Elliott’s free-kick on the angle was lofted towards the far post and though Lucas Digne lost the defender too easily it was a spectacular climb by the young centre-back, angling his header perfectly to loop the ball beyond Martinez for his first senior goal.

Such was the nature of the contest, it did not feel over. Villa thought they had pulled one back within minutes only for Watkins’ goal to be ruled out because Bailey was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up. Watkins then squandered another opening.

Elliott almost found Liverpool’s fourth only to be denied by the flag and just when Villa’s supporters were beginning to doubt, Alexis Mac Allister’s slack touch presented Duran with the chance to set up a stunning finish. The mood inside Villa Park was transformed.

The equaliser seemed to owe as much to that momentum as any design by Duran. When Diaby rushed towards goal, his shovelled pass struck the substitute, the ball ricocheting off him to leave Alisson stranded and send the Holte End wild with delight.

Klopp could only smile at the end, serenaded by the away support despite the disappointment. But it was a fitting final home game of the season for Emery’s Villa. They have confounded expectations all campaign. The Champions League now looms.

Klopp: It got away from us

“It got away from us tonight, there is no doubt about that,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “We played a really good game. One team was playing for absolutely everything and one team was playing football and wants to win the game.

“I think the character and the attitude the boys showed was outstanding. I would have loved to have won the game – Dom had a chance in the box but when we gave away the 3-2 it was then really, really tricky. Then 3-3 and then they wanted to win.”

Speaking in the press conference afterwards about the emotions of taking charge of Liverpool away from home for the final time, Klopp joked that he was more professional than he thought. “I was completely in the game,” he said.

“But I appreciate so much what these boys and girls are doing. The away fans are always absolutely insane. It was a wonderful relationship, is a wonderful relationship. I always try to show my appreciation. The boys showed that as well with how many they played.”

Villa players share excitement

“There are some of us who have never been close to the Champions League in our life,” John McGinn told Sky Sports. “The manager has a no-excuse mentality. People have written us off and we have floated under the radar. We will have our Man City tops on tomorrow.”

Martinez was more succinct when addressing the supporters from the pitch. “Let’s go to the Champions League, baby,” he yelled. It was a more measured response from Emery, as one might expect. He preferred to focus on the final game against Crystal Palace.

Asked whether he will be watching Tottenham’s game against Manchester City, Emery said: “I will analyse this game tonight and I will watch Palace. It is my only objective.” He added: “Inch by inch. And still another inch to fight against Palace.”

Player of the match: Jhon Duran

“Big Jhon is a bit nuts and is a nightmare to have in your team but he has got quality,” Villa captain McGinn told Sky Sports. “We need to keep his feet on the ground over the next couple of days.” When those comments were put to Emery, he elaborated.

“He is very young, 20 years old but his potential is impossible to calculate or predict,” said the Villa boss. “But I believe in him.”

Emery added: “Football is different in Colombia. Tactically, this is the most difficult league in the world. You have to be compact always. We are working with him a lot to be very demanding. When he is not [demanding of himself], I am pushing him.

“But I know he will score, I know he will create chances. Today, I am very happy with how he helped us.”

Trading strategy for Tuesday, May 14 – Should you be a buyer or seller today? Here’s what market experts recommend:

Osho Krishan, Sr. Analyst – Technical & Derivative Research at Angel One recommends to remain cautious amidst the rise in volatility, which may be deceptive and could trap traders on either side. He adds that traders should refrain from aggressive overnight bets, and maintain exclusivity with stock selection.

On the level-specific front, Osho expects support for the Nifty around 22,000 – 21,900, followed by the sacrosanct support of the 89-DEMA around 21,800 zone. At the higher end, 22,200-22,300 is likely to act as intermediate resistance, and a sustainable surpass could only trigger a fresh round of longs in the system.

What are Shares and Types of Shares?

Analysing the F&O data, Ashwin Ramani, Derivatives & Technical Analyst of SAMCO Securities, reveals that both the 21,800 & 21,900 Strikes saw strong put writing. The Nifty has formed a hammer pattern on the daily chart, which is considered to be a bullish reversal signal. If call writers (Bears) exit from the 22,000 Strike, then Nifty is likely to move higher.

Echoing similar terms, Om Mehra, Technical Analyst of SAMCO Securities, said the Nifty has formed a hammer candlestick pattern at the support of its rising trendline on the daily chart, signaling a potential reversal.

The Nifty may trade within a broader range of 21,950 to 22,250 in the coming sessions. While the Nifty closed above its 100-day Moving Average (DMA), but needs to close above the crucial level of 22,300, to confirm a bullish stance to continue, Om Mehra added.

Bank Nifty halted its eight-session losing streak, showing resilience as it formed a morning star pattern on the hourly chart and rebound from lower levels, closing the session at 47,754. Currently, Bank Nifty is positioned near a crucial rising trendline. The daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 46 levels. Immediate resistance remains at 48,000; if crossed, we expect a rally till 48,250-48,300, the analyst concluded in the note.

Similarly, Neeraj Sharma, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research at Asit C. Mehta Investment Intermediates suggested that as per the hammer candlestick pattern, as long as the Nifty holds the support of 21,820, the relief rally will continue. The 21-DEMA is placed near 22,315, which will act as an immediate hurdle for the index. Thus, for the short term, we expect a pullback towards 22,300 levels. If the index sustains above 22,315, the pullback rally might test 22,500 levels.
