Kate Middleton ‘working from home’, says Kensington Palace amid rumours: Report

Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has been working from home on a special children’s project, and easing back to normal life, Kensington Palace has confirmed to The Telegraph.

In Short

  • Kate Middleton busy with ‘Shaping Us’ project while working from home
  • Kensington Palace said she is easing back to normal life after surgery
  • Princess of Wales has been absent from public life since December

Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has been working from home post her abdominal surgery, as she eases back to normal life, Kensington Palace confirmed to The Telegraph. She has been busy with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood’s (RFCEC) ‘Shaping Us’ project aimed at improving the lives of babies.

The palace said that the Princess of Wales had been kept up to date with her campaign, which has led to “overwhelming results” of the study she inspired. She launched the project in January, with the objective of highlighting the importance of early years’ development in children.

This development came after the staff of a hospital in central London where Kate Middleton had surgery reportedly tried to illegally access her private medical records. The UK’s information watchdog launched an investigation into the alleged incident.

The incident reportedly happened at The London Clinic, a private medical facility, where the 42-year-old Princess of Wales underwent surgery in January. Three workers have reportedly been placed under investigation by the London Clinic.

Kate Middleton’s long absence from public life has been marred by speculation and conspiracy theories. It was fuelled after the palace posted a picture of the princess with her three children, which was later pulled by several media agencies as it was digitally altered. The Princess of Wales later apologised for the confusion over the doctored photo, citing her love for “experimenting” as the reason behind the alteration.

Recently, footage surfaced showing Kate Middleton shopping with her husband, Prince William, at a local farm shop near Windsor. Though many claimed it was the princess’s lookalike, Heidi Agan, she dismissed speculation, telling The Mirror in an interview that she was working as a teacher at a dance and musical theatre group elsewhere.

Kensington Palace has assured the public that the Princess of Wales is recovering from the abdominal surgery, and won’t be resuming royal duties until after the Easter school break.

Latest report claims only 7% Indian colleges achieve full campus placement; strong preference by recruiters on skills!

The report says placement 88 percent of HR practitioners expressed a strong preference for skill-based hiring over other factors such as experience, academics and more.

Only 7 percent of Indian colleges achieve full campus placement, as the top challenges for a significant percentage of recruiters are skill gaps and the inability to discover the right talent, according to a report.

According to the annual Unstop Talent Report 2024, as many as 91 percent of students believe their college curricula offer an adequate level of preparedness for a job, whereas 66 percent of recruiters and 42 percent of university partners feel the skill gap and lack of preparation are major challenges in campus recruitment.

The report found that 88 percent of HR practitioners expressed a strong preference for skill-based hiring, prioritizing candidates’ abilities over other factors such as experience, academics, references, internships, and projects.

The findings are based on responses gathered from an extensive survey involving over 11,000 students, university partners, and human resource practitioners across the country.Additional insights were also gathered through conversations with HR leaders which divulged their views on employee desires, the role of mentorship, competition, and more.

“By highlighting the preferences and concerns of students and HR professionals, we aim to bridge the gap between talent supply and demand, enabling more informed decision-making and fostering a more efficient and effective hiring process,” Unstop Founder and CEO Ankit Aggarwal said.

The report further noted that the looming fear of layoffs has prompted three out of five (60 percent) students to prioritize job security overpay hikes. For most of them, in-hand salary remained the most valuable salary component, followed by perks and benefits.

Moreover, a significant percentage of B-school students prefer established and legacy firms, and working for startups has lost its charm.

Further, marketing emerged as the top preferred domain for B-school students, while Finance and Analytics topped the list for Arts and Science students.

In Arts, Science & Commerce, the most common offer for men was ₹6-10 LPA and for women was 2-5 LPA.

In B-School, 55 percent of men received an offer of over ₹16 LPA, but only 45 percent of women received an offer above ₹16 LPA, the report said.

China’s “Wrestles,” JF-17 With a fighter deal with Nigeria, India’s LCA Tejas is fully engaged in backchannel diplomacy!

India’s Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, was in Nigeria recently Tejas to put diplomatic force behind the Indian offer of the indigenous fighter jet as it faces stiff competition from the Chinese warplane.

China is pushing its JF-17 to counter India’s offer of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas to the African country. India, looking to strike its maiden deal, is marketing the indigenous fighter jet aggressively.

An official privy to the development confirmed to the EurAsian Times that the topic was indeed addressed during the recently concluded visit of the Indian Foreign Minister to Nigeria.

“The JF-17s representatives are already there,” the official added.

Nigeria is looking to procure 15 fighter jets to replace its obsolete fleet of Chengdu F-7NI. The existing fleet of Chinese fighter jets gives an unsaid advantage to the Chinese offer. Both LCA ‘Tejas’ (Brilliance) and JF-17 ‘Thunder’ are single-engine multi-role combat aircraft.

India has been pushing for defense exports with an ambitious streak unknown earlier. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in December 2023 that the country’s defense exports would touch $2.88 billion (around Rs 24,000 crore) in the financial year 2024.

Indian Aerospace maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chairman CB Ananthkrishnan confirmed in December 2023 that negotiations were ongoing with Nigeria.

LCA’ Tejas’ has come a long way since its conception. The aircraft is becoming the backbone of the Indian Air Force (IAF), which has inducted the warplane in its inventory and will soon be deploying them on its forward bases on the western front with Pakistan.

Reports indicate that Tejas will soon be deployed in operational roles in the northern sector, where it would have to go one-on-one against Pakistan’s F-16s and China-Pakistan Joint Venture JF-17 should conflict happen between these countries.

India had deployed its full diplomatic force behind Tejas to sell it to Argentina. However, the discomfort over the possibility of a Chinese fighter jet in its backyard forced the US to offer second-hand F-16s to the South American country.

Even though the newly elected government has not made an official announcement, it is a foregone conclusion that the deal has been snatched by the US fighter jet.

The Indian representatives would not want to be outflanked by Chinese’ Thunder.’ The Nigerian Air Force, facing challenges from multiple fronts, including separatist movements, piracy, violence within communities, and the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, operates three JF-17s already. The JF-17s were inducted in 2021.

With only 150 aircraft and 15,000 troops, Nigeria’s air force is in desperate need of modernization. The majority of Nigeria’s air force inventory, according to the International Institute for Strategic Studies, is made up of antiquated or aged aircraft, including the Alpha Jet, F-7, and MiG-21.

Besides this, the Nigerian Air Force operates the Chinese Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Wing Loong II.

Advantages Tejas Has Over JF-17

The Indian side has been quick to underscore Tejas’s better serviceability over JF-17s. In the IAF squadron, the LCA has a serviceability of over 75 percent.

“Out of 100 aircraft delivered to date, at least 40 JF-17 aircraft are known to be unserviceable. The number of “incidents” in Pakistan & Myanmar show a dismal record. The LCA, on the other hand, has nil accident record and high serviceability,” an official affirmed in conversation with the EurAsian Times.

Another parameter that sets LCA one notch up the JF-17 is the fly-by-wire system. The JF-17 has a triplex redundant fly-by-wire system, and the LCA has a quadruplex redundant architecture.

Tejas

Also Read: After the US Fed’s rate announcement, the gold rate reaches a new high of ₹66,778. Is it better to buy or not? Will it rise even higher?

The LCA Tejas, claims the Indian official, has a lighter dry, empty weight than JF-17 Thunder and can carry 1000 kg more payload. The LCA has a smaller fuselage, higher sweep angle, and large lift generation area, making it highly maneuverable and more agile when compared to JF-17 Thunder.

LCA’s better thrust-to-weight ratio gives it a better climb and turn performance. The JF-17 has seven hot points for carrying weapons, while the LCA has eight hot points.

“All weapons on the JF-17 are imported, making its export variant very expensive and reliant on third parties. The LCA comes with indigenous weapons,” the official added.

Honing Tejas Brilliance

The IAF has already begun sending the existing two LCA squadrons on detachments to forward air bases along the western and northern frontiers, as was witnessed recently with a squadron in Awantipur in Jammu and Kashmir for training.

Tejas

Also Read:Google & Apollo’s Indian AI Health Initiative!

The biggest handicap the Tejas has so far has been that it is not combat-proven and has never faced a challenge, as its Indian peninsular deployment meant it is a peace-time combat jet.

But all that could change if Tejas is permanently deployed in one of India’s forward air bases facing west or north, and it would need to patrol the skies over India’s two volatile borders.

In the making since the 1980s, the LCA has now entered the services of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and will replace the aging fleet of the Soviet-vintage MiG-21s. The last unit of the MiG-21 is expected to phase out in 2025.

The order for these 90 aircraft will be in addition to the 83 LCA Mk1A that the force has already placed with the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in 2021. Once both orders are executed in the next 15 years, the IAF will have 40 LCA, over 180 LCA MK 1A, and at least 120 LCA MK-2 fighter jets.

Indian internet businesses’ interim requests to the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to stop Google from charging any commission for in-app purchases and to prevent the Play Store from delisting apps that violate its regulations were denied.

People Interactive, the company behind Shaadi.com, and Mebigo Labs, the company behind Kuku FM, filed a request for interim relief.

Gabe Vincent injury update: The Lakers star guard’s likely timeline for a comeback is discussed ahead of the 2024 NBA playoffs!

LA Lakers guard Gabe Vincent has only played in five games this season before being shut down permanently after requiring arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The last time he suited up was back on Dec. 20, but fans could see him return to action very soon.

Per Marc Stein, the Laker guard could return soon, although an actual timeline hasn’t been announced. However, he could be back in time before the playoffs kick off, which should help the team’s depth.

There was some excitement regarding Vincent’s acquisition during the offseason’s free agency period. However, fans of the LA-based franchise have barely seen the guard in action. He played the first four games of the season before being sidelined from the beginning of November to Dec. 18.

On Dec. 20, Vincent suited up for one more game before being permanently shut down after requiring arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. In the five games that he played, he averaged 5.4 points on 37.5 shooting from the field.

Gabe Vincent’s absence led to some depth issues for LA, especially at the PG position which they addressed by adding Spencer Dinwiddie.

Where does Gabe Vincent fit in the LA Lakers’ rotation?

Gabe Vincent was key in spreading Erik Spoelstra’s offense last season as he displayed some very sweet shooting. Vincent had some big games, which helped the Miami Heat upset the Boston Celtics. He also had a strong contribution against the Denver Nuggets in the Heat’s only win in the Finals.

There was a lot of hope that he would bring the same energy and continue in his development to help the Lakers become legitimate contenders. However, none of this has worked out.

Vincent was supposed to be a backup to D’Angelo Russell, but his knee issues have prevented that. With Spencer Dinwiddie filling the backup point guard role, how does Vincent fit in the Lakers’ rotation?

With him most likely being on a minutes restriction when he returns, Vincent probably won’t take over the backup spot immediately. He will also have to battle it out against Dinwiddie to earn that spot permanently.

Vincent can also be an effective floor spacer and can play off the ball. As such, he could sometimes be asked to come in at the two-guard spot.

Gabe Vincent’s spot on the roster will of course depend on how well he bounces back after being sidelined for a long time. However, if he is given enough opportunities and is allowed to recover, he can still carve a role for himself in the team’s lineup.

Imad Wasim, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, was found smoking in the dressing room on Monday after he astonishingly claimed five wickets for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine final against Multan Sultans at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena. The impressive bowling performance and Martin Guptill’s half-century were key components of Islamabad’s two-wicket win and third PSL title.

Wasim ran riot through the Multan Sultan batting line-up after Islamabad were put to bowl first in the summit clash. He handed the team the first breakthrough, in the second over, dismissing opener Yasir Khan before combining with captain Shadab Khan to send Multan four down for 85 runs in the 12th over.On returning to attack, Wasim dismissed Khusdil and Chris Jordan in successive deliveries, but was denied a hat-trick. He eventually finished with 5 for 23, becoming the first-ever bowler to pick up a fifer in a PSL final as Multan were restricted to 159 for nine.

After the impressive show with the ball, Wasim went to the dressing room and was seen smoking, a visual of which went viral on social media.

This isn’t the first instance that a cricketer was spotted smoking in the dressing room. Back in 2022, during an international match, Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad was caught smoking and was later reprimanded by match officials. More recently, during the 2023 ODI World Cup tournament, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell was seen smoking an e-cigarette in the dressing room.

In reply, Guptill’s 32-ball 50 kept Islamabad alive in the chase despite wickets falling at regular intervals. The veteran New Zealand batter later found himself in a 47-run stand with wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan which revived the side. However, it was Naseem Shah’s cameo of 9-ball 17, laced with a maximum and two boundaries, and Hunain Shah’s title-winning boundary in the last ball that seal the victory for Islamabad.

US Senator ‘deeply concerned’ about CAA impact on Muslims in India

Voicing concern over the CAA rollout in India, US Senator Ben Cardin stated that it is vital for cooperation between Washington and New Delhi to be rooted in shared values of safeguarding human rights, regardless of religion.

CAA impact on Muslims in India

In Short

  • US lawmaker expresses concern over India’s CAA enforcement
  • Senator Ben Cardin speaks on potential impact on Muslim community
  • Senator says India-US cooperation needs to be based on shared values.

An influential US lawmaker has voiced apprehension regarding the Indian government’s issuance of rules for the enforcement of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating that it is vital for cooperation between Washington and New Delhi to be rooted in shared values of safeguarding human rights irrespective of religion.

“I am deeply concerned by the Indian government’s decision to notify its controversial Citizenship Amendment Act, particularly the law’s potential ramifications on India’s Muslim community. Making matters worse is the fact that it is being pushed during the holy month of Ramadan,” stated Senator Ben Cardin, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“As the US-India relationship deepens, it is critically important that our cooperation is based on our shared values of protecting the human rights of all persons, regardless of religion,” he continued.

The lawmaker’s remarks coincide with Hindu American groups’ endorsement of the rollout of CAA.

Last week, the US State Department voiced concerns over the notification of CAA. Spokesperson Matthew Miller said the Biden administration would be closely monitoring the implementation of the contentious law.

“Respect for religious freedom and equal treatment under the law for all communities are fundamental democratic principles,” Miller had said.

India promptly criticised the US State Department’s critique of the CAA as “misinformed and unwarranted.”

The Centre implemented the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, last week, facilitating citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

Additionally, the government issued a press statement asserting that Indian Muslims need not fear as the CAA will not affect their citizenship and is unrelated to the community, which enjoys equal rights as Hindus.
