After a gambling investigation, the NBA bans Jontay Porter.

Jontay Porter, a two-way player for the Toronto Raptors, is the second player that Commissioner Adam Silver has suspended from the league due to rule violations.

Following a league investigation, which revealed that Jontay Porter had given sensitive information to sports bettors and placed wagers on games, the NBA suspended Porter for life.

Porter, a two-way player for the Toronto Raptors, is the second player that Commissioner Adam Silver has suspended from the league due to rule violations. In 2014, Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, was the other.

Jontay Porter Net Worth: $410,000

When the league became aware of odd betting patterns about Porter’s play in a game on March 20, the inquiry got underway. The NBA was informed by the league that Porter had provided a betting with information about his health before that game, and another person, who was reportedly an NBA bettor, wagered $80,000 on the possibility that Porter would miss the points that were assigned to him in parlays via an online sports book. $1.1 million would have been gained on the wager.

Porter took himself out of that game after only a few minutes, claiming illness, none of his stats meeting the totals set in the parlay. The bet was frozen and not paid out, and the NBA started an investigation.

“There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams, and everyone associated with our sport, which is why Jontay Porter’s blatant violations of our gaming rules are being met with the most severe punishment,” Silver said.

Silver cautioned last week that this move was possible, saying what Porter was accused of represented a “cardinal sin” in the NBA. Porter has not commented since the investigation began, and never played for the Raptors again — he was listed as out for all of Toronto’s games for the remainder of the season citing personal reasons.

In addition, the league found that Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr., wagered on NBA games with a minimum of thirteen different betting accounts. The bets were placed in increments of $15 to $22,000; a total of $54,094 was staked, yielding a payment of $76,059, or net gains of $21,965.

According to the NBA, Porter was not involved in any of those bets. However, three of the bets involved several game parlays, one of which saw Porter place a bet on the Raptors to lose. Those three bets were all lost.

“This matter also raises important questions about the sufficiency of the regulatory framework currently in place, including the types of bets offered on our games and players,” Silver stated. “Legal sports betting creates transparency that helps identify suspicious or abnormal activity.” “We will continue to work diligently to safeguard our league and game, working closely with all relevant stakeholders across the industry.”

Gabe Vincent injury update: The Lakers star guard’s likely timeline for a comeback is discussed ahead of the 2024 NBA playoffs!

LA Lakers guard Gabe Vincent has only played in five games this season before being shut down permanently after requiring arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The last time he suited up was back on Dec. 20, but fans could see him return to action very soon.

Per Marc Stein, the Laker guard could return soon, although an actual timeline hasn’t been announced. However, he could be back in time before the playoffs kick off, which should help the team’s depth.

There was some excitement regarding Vincent’s acquisition during the offseason’s free agency period. However, fans of the LA-based franchise have barely seen the guard in action. He played the first four games of the season before being sidelined from the beginning of November to Dec. 18.

On Dec. 20, Vincent suited up for one more game before being permanently shut down after requiring arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. In the five games that he played, he averaged 5.4 points on 37.5 shooting from the field.

Gabe Vincent’s absence led to some depth issues for LA, especially at the PG position which they addressed by adding Spencer Dinwiddie.

Where does Gabe Vincent fit in the LA Lakers’ rotation?

Gabe Vincent was key in spreading Erik Spoelstra’s offense last season as he displayed some very sweet shooting. Vincent had some big games, which helped the Miami Heat upset the Boston Celtics. He also had a strong contribution against the Denver Nuggets in the Heat’s only win in the Finals.

There was a lot of hope that he would bring the same energy and continue in his development to help the Lakers become legitimate contenders. However, none of this has worked out.

Vincent was supposed to be a backup to D’Angelo Russell, but his knee issues have prevented that. With Spencer Dinwiddie filling the backup point guard role, how does Vincent fit in the Lakers’ rotation?

With him most likely being on a minutes restriction when he returns, Vincent probably won’t take over the backup spot immediately. He will also have to battle it out against Dinwiddie to earn that spot permanently.

Vincent can also be an effective floor spacer and can play off the ball. As such, he could sometimes be asked to come in at the two-guard spot.

Gabe Vincent’s spot on the roster will of course depend on how well he bounces back after being sidelined for a long time. However, if he is given enough opportunities and is allowed to recover, he can still carve a role for himself in the team’s lineup.
