SRH vs RR

TRAVISHEK vs BOULT: The “Travishek Express” has been stalled recently due to Travis Head’s consecutive ducks. Left-arm pacers have rattled his off-stump twice in a row—first Arshdeep Singh from PBKS and then Mitchell Starc from KKR. Head’s poor shot selection has been to blame. Powerplay specialist Trent Boult will be eager to exploit this weakness. SRH openers have been impressive, boasting a season strike rate of 11.48 runs per over in the first six overs. Boult, with an economy rate of 6.71 in the powerplay and nine wickets this season, will be a key threat.

IPL Qualifier 2: Chennai Pitch and weather conditions

The MA Chidambaram Stadium pitch is known to favor bowlers, especially spinners, due to its significant grip and turn. This spin-friendly surface poses a challenge for batters, limiting scoring opportunities and likely leading to a match dominated by bowlers. Teams may prefer to bowl first if they win the toss. Recent records support this strategy, as chasing teams have won five of the seven games this season.

Cricket fans in Chennai can expect favorable weather for the upcoming match. Though cloudy, there’s no chance of rain. Temperatures may reach 32°C, testing players’ endurance, but winds at 19 km/hr should provide some relief. Humidity will be around 76%, impacting both batters and bowlers.

IPL Qualifier 2- SRH vs RR: Team News

SRH can bring in Aiden Markram or Glenn Phillips for Vijayakanth Viyaskanth to strengthen their batting, with Mayank Markande replacing Sanvir Singh as the leg-spinner. If batting first, SRH can start with Head, Klaasen, and captain Pat Cummins, adding Phillips or Markram as needed.

IPL Qualifier 2- SRH vs RR: Who Will Win?

The Qualifier 2 is expected to be a high-octane tense clash with both RR and SRH vying for a berth in the final and their second IPL title. However, Chepauk’s slow pitch might give Rajasthan a slight edge because of their superior spin attack.

China Military Drills Taiwan Scrambles jets and Puts Missiles on Alert.

The island Defence Ministry stated that China military drills Taiwan unreasonable aggression has put regional peace and stability in jeopardy. Taiwan will not actively seek out conflicts, but it will not avoid them either.

Taiwan, an island democracy with a new president taking office this week, saw Chinese military drills around it on Thursday, prompting Taiwan to scramble jets and place missile, naval, and ground troops on alert.
The military of China said that the two-day drills around Taiwan were a form of retaliation against separatist groups vying for independence. The People’s Liberation Army routinely sends navy ships and warplanes into the Taiwan Strait and other areas surrounding the island in an effort to weaken Taiwan’s defences and intimidate its people, who firmly support their de facto independence. Beijing claims the island is part of its national territory.

The island’s Defence Ministry stated that China’s unreasonable aggression has put regional peace and stability in jeopardy. Taiwan will not actively seek out conflicts, but it will also not avoid them.
According to the ministry’s statement, “this pretext for conducting military exercises not only does not contribute to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, but it also shows its hegemonic nature at heart.”
Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te urged Beijing to cease its military intimidation in his inaugural speech on Monday. He also promised not to back down or anger the leadership of the Communist Party on the mainland.

According to Lai, he wants to have talks with Beijing while preserving Taiwan’s current standing and averting confrontations that can entice Taiwan’s biggest supporter, the United States, as well as other regional allies like Japan and Australia.

The Eastern Theatre Command of the People’s Liberation Army stated on its official Weibo account that the purpose of the land, navy, and air exercises near Taiwan is to evaluate the PLA units’ naval and aviation capabilities as well as their ability to launch coordinated strikes that will take control of the battlefield.

This is also a powerful punishment for the separatist forces seeking independence’ and a serious warning to external forces for interference and provocation, the statement said.

The PLA also released a map of the intended exercise area, which surrounds Taiwan’s main island at five different points, as well as places like Matsu and Kinmen, outlying islands that are closer to the Chinese mainland than Taiwan.

While China has termed the exercises as punishment for Taiwan’s election result, the Democratic Progressive Party has now run the island’s government for more than a decade, although the pro-China Nationalist Party took a one-seat majority in the parliament.

Speaking in Australia, Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Stephen Sklenka, the deputy commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, called on Asia-Pacific nations to condemn the Chinese military exercises.

There’s no surprise whenever there’s an action that highlights Taiwan in the international sphere the Chinese feel compelled to make some kind of form of statement, Sklenka told the National Press Club of Australia in the capital Canberra, in a reference to Monday’s presidential inauguration.

Just because we expect that behavior doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t condemn it, and we need to condemn it publicly. And it needs to come from us, but it also needs to come, I believe, from nations in the region. It’s one thing when the United States condemns the Chinese, but it has a far more powerful effect, I believe, when it comes from nations within this region, Sklenka added.

  • Fishermen have been warned not to venture into sea till May 27

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated on Thursday that a strong cyclone is predicted to strike the shores of West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh on May 26 (Saturday), as a cyclonic storm that is currently forming in the Bay of Bengal. On Saturday, the state will hold its sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, with voting for eight seats expected to take place around the time of Cyclonic Storm Remal.

Cyclone Remal

Remal is predicted to strike Bangladesh’s and West Bengal’s coasts early on May 26 at a speed of 110–120 km/h, with gusts as high as 135 mph, according to the Met Department. It further stated that the severity would last for about twenty-four hours, until May 27 morning, at which point it will lessen.

The storm is likely to turn into a deep depression on May 25 (Friday) and as a severe cyclonic storm on May 26, the weather office said.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for light to moderate rainfall in Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia, Jhargram, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts.

“A well-marked low-pressure area over west-central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards during the past 12 hours, concentrated into a depression and lay centred at 5:30 am on May 24 over central Bay of Bengal, about 800 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 810 km south of Canning (West Bengal),” the IMD said in its bulletin.

“It is very likely to continue to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the evening of May 25,” it added.

“Continuing to move nearly northward, it is very likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around the midnight of May 26 as a severe cyclonic storm,” the IMD said.

The weather office has warned fishermen at sea to return to the coast and not venture into the Bay of Bengal until May 27.

ELECTION COMMISSION ON ALERT

The cyclone is expected to coincide with polling in eight Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal on Saturday — Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura and Bishnupur.

The Election Commission has alerted the district administrations to take all precautionary measures at polling stations in view of the brewing storm, an official said.

West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab reviewed the situation in a meeting with superintendents of police and state disaster management officials and directed them to take necessary steps to prevent any untoward situation.

“The SPs have been asked to take adequate measures,” Aftab told news agency PTI.

According to sources in the state disaster management department, all necessary measures are in place and additional personnel have been sent to coastal districts.

RCB Skipped Practice due to Ahmedabad Heat, no Terror Threat.

IPL 2024 Eliminator: Because of Ahmedabad’s intense heat and humidity, Virat Kohli and the Royal Bengal took a break from practicing. In contrast to what the media has reported, sources told India Today that the star batsman for the RCB wasn’t in danger from terrorism.

  • RCB face RR in the Eliminator of IPL 2024
  • RCB skipped their training session ahead of the match
  • Reports speculated that RCB cancelled their practice due to terrot threat

In the Indian Premier League 2024 Eliminator, RCB and RR are scheduled to play. There were a lot of media headlines just hours before the match claiming that Virat Kohli’s terror threat forced to call off their practise session. Nevertheless, IndiaToday.in has discovered that the called off their practise session because of extreme heat, not a danger from terrorism.

Due to the intense midday heat, decided to postpone their practise session, according to sources who spoke with Inditoday.in. On Wednesday, May 22, the team was informed that the floodlights would only be accessible until 6:30 p.m., at which point their session was cancelled.

“Originally, it was scheduled for 2 p.m., but they rescheduled it to 5 p.m. Then, between 4 and 6 p.m., they inquired. We informed the team that after 6:30 p.m. is when the floodlights are available. That wasn’t a problem; it was acceptable. But it was forty-five degrees Celsius outside. In order to protect the players’ health, they made the decision to forgo practice. IndiaToday.in has been informed by a reliable source within the Ahmedabad stadium that there was no security threat.

We also gave them the option of giving indoor practice arena but they said they will skip the session due to heat,” he further added.

Important lessons from the Mavericks and Timberwolves’ first game

The Dallas Mavericks won Game 1 of their dramatic opening series against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Minneapolis on Wednesday, setting up a thrilling start to the NBA’s Western Conference playoffs.

Trailing 83-82 going into the fourth quarter, Luka Doncic scored a game-high 33 points to spark a comeback that saw the Mavericks win 108-105.

Throughout the first half, neither Doncic nor Anthony Edwards of Minnesota were very consistent, which kept the game tight the entire time. But Kyrie Irving scored a game-high twenty-four points in the first half to keep Dallas in it, and Doncic steadied himself over the next two quarters.

What is your biggest takeaway from Game 1?

  • Tim MacMahon: The Mavericks are in uncharted territory, winning a Game 1 under coach Jason Kidd for the first time in six tries. Dallas’ star duo of Doncic and Irving — coming off a pretty quiet second-round series, by their standards — took turns carrying Dallas in the opener. Irving scored 24 of his 30 points in the first half to keep the Mavs within striking distance. Doncic filled the closer role, scoring 15 of his 33 in the fourth quarter and making a couple of clutch defensive stops.
  • Dave McMenamin: In what should be a long, competitive series, the Timberwolves already showed that failing to execute on the little things can make the difference. With 1:41 to go in Game 1, Towns was called for offensive goaltending; with 1:06 remaining, Mike Conley’s lob to Rudy Gobert was stolen by Doncic. Despite those critical miscues, the Wolves found a sliver of hope when, down by four points with less than two seconds remaining, Conley drew a 3-point shooting foul. To give Minnesota a chance, he had to make the first two free throws then purposely miss the third to allow for a tip-in opportunity. He missed the second, thwarting any chance at a long shot comeback. The Wolves were 11-for-18 from the line; the Mavs went 16-for-17.
  • Brian Windhorst: You could feel the big-game experience of Doncic and Irving as compared to Edwards and Towns, and that became a defining storyline in Dallas’ Game 1 win. Irving proved it early, keeping the Mavs on pace while Minnesota virtually couldn’t miss. Doncic, meanwhile, proved it late with a brilliant individual scoring effort.

What is one big adjustment we could see in Game 2?

  • MacMahon: The Mavs should adjust their tag-team centre rotation so that youngster Dereck Lively II gets more playing time. It’s tough to overlook the fact that the Mavs are minus-62 with Daniel Gafford in the starting lineup and plus-106 with Lively on the floor in the playoffs, but switching around the starting lineup would be too extreme at this stage, especially with a lead in the series.
  • McMenamin: After scoring 62 points in the opening two quarters, the Wolves slowed down in the second half, managing just 43 points. Towns and Edwards bemoaned Minnesota’s pitiful 12 fast-break points following the loss. After the Wolves made a basket, Edwards also chastised himself for allowing Irving to beat him down the court for a layup. In Game 2, Minnesota seems primed to accelerate the tempo.
  • Windhorst: The Mavs have announced their game plan: They will pack the paint and dare Minnesota to beat them with the outside shot. Dallas wants to put multiple bodies between Edwards, Towns and the rim. Edwards had to work extremely hard to create space for himself throughout Game 1, and Towns had no space when he was inside. In the first half, the Wolves were 11-of-25 on 3s. In the second half, Dallas’ strategy started to work, as Minnesota went 7-of-24 from deep, and Edwards and Towns were a combined 12-of-36 from the field. That is a winning formula.

Which role player will be the biggest X factor the rest of the series?

  • MacMahon: P.J. Washington, the Mavs’ surprise star of the second round. He struggled from 3-point range for most of the opener, but he hit a clutch corner 3 in Game 1. He also was the primary defender on Towns, who was 6-of-20 from the floor. If Towns can’t get in a groove, it will be tough for the Timberwolves to win this series.
  • McMenamin: Jaden McDaniels. It’s hard to ask for much more than what he gave in Game 1, especially through the first three quarters. Defensively, Doncic shot just 4-for-12 with McDaniels as the primary defender. Offensively, McDaniels scored 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting. But the fourth quarter was a different story: Doncic shot 4-for-7 against McDaniels, while McDaniels went 1-for-3 with two turnovers. Despite fading late, McDaniels should continue to have his fingerprints on both ends for the Wolves.
  • Windhorst: Mike Conley. Any lingering impacts following his Achilles tendon injury are hard to predict, but the Wolves badly needed offensive organization and his calming influence down the stretch. Conley’s presence wasn’t felt in crunch time of Game 1, a crucial pivot point for the Wolves moving forward.

Who is Nikesh Arora? An Indian CEO makes more money than Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai combined.

Palo Alto Network CEO Nikesh Arora rose to prominence in the tech industry while holding positions at Softbank and Google. At Google, he received a $51 million pay package; at Softbank, he broke the Japanese record with a $135 million first-year compensation package.

The Wall Street Journal published their list of the US CEOs who will earn the highest salary in 2023 on Tuesday. Nikesh Arora, the CEO of Palo Alto Network and an Indian, landed in second place on the list with a whopping $151.43 million in remuneration. Interestingly, Nikesh Arora made a lot more money than several well-known IT leaders, such Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, who makes $24.40 million, and Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, who makes $8.8 million.

However, who is Nikesh Arora exactly? Here is all the information you require about the CEO of Palo Alto Network.

Who is Nikesh Arora?

Nikesh Arora completed his primary education at the Air Force Public School in Delhi before going on to earn a Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT-BHU. Even before his stint at Palo Alto Network, Arora had made a name for himself in the tech world through his work with major companies such as Google and Softbank.

Notably, Arora became the highest paid executive at Google in 2012 when the company hired him with a $51 million package. By the end of his time with the Silicon Valley-based company, Nikesh Arora had collected stock awards worth at least $200 million.

During his time at Softbank Group, Arora also set a new record in Japan with a mammoth first-year compensation package of $135 million. People at the company saw him as the successor to legendary investor Masayoshi Son, according to a Bloomberg report earlier this year.

Palo Alto Network has previously used the IT executive’s impressive performance to defend the CEO’s large compensation package. Palo Alto Network made the following statement about Arora’s compensation package last year: “The Board determined that a meaningful equity award would be necessary to ensure that such award retains and engages Mr. Arora because of this significant vested ownership and the amount that Mr. Arora was projected to vest in over the next several years.”

Mammootty starrer Turbo trailer:

The film Turbo, which stars Mammootty in the title character, tells the tale of Turbo Jose, a jeep driver from Idukki. This mama’s boy, who is well-known for acting impulsively and erratically, finds himself unintentionally in Chennai. But when Jose gets into a fight with the notorious kingpin Vetrivel Shanmugha Sundaram, things start to go south. Will Jose succeed in defeating them and putting an end to their problems?

Turbo is a mass action commercial film that primarily capitalises on Megastar Mammootty’s popularity. The film’s creators have been able to take use of the actor’s celebrity image from the outset, even going so far as to include a prominent “Megastar” sign in the background.

Apart from the presence of the legendary actor, the movie heavily depends on Raj B Shetty’s menacing and wicked Kannada portrayal. The actor does a fantastic job portraying a strong antagonist, which keeps the plot fascinating and captivating. The movie’s second half and climax are elevated to an exciting level of action by these gifted performers working together.

Other than them, actress Bindu Panicker truly stole the show by playing Jose’s mother, who is the only person the protagonist fears in the entirety of the film. The bond between the two actors as mother and son was the most outstanding emotional connection depicted in the movie. Additionally, Anjana Jayaprakash, Shabareesh Varma, and Sunil, among other actors, also delivered noteworthy performances, establishing both emotional connections and comedic moments.

Coming to the technical brilliance of the film, the movie’s backbone was the blaring and energetic background scores composed by Christo Xavier. Be it the Turbo Jose theme or Burnout The Engine, both tracks stood out making it a thrilling experience for the viewers. The craftsmanship executed by Xavier should be praised equally to his contemporaries in Malayalam cinema like Sushin Shyam and Rex Vijayan.

The direction by Vysakh in his third collaboration with Mammootty truly made it clear why he is well-known for executing commercial movies. Even though the movie is packed with action movie cliches, it also makes an effort to play around with meta narration, occasionally poking fun at its own cliches.

The cinematography deserves special praise for its creative shots and subtle lighting that enhances the scenes. The film maintains a similar aesthetic to Vysakh’s recent works, which are executed effectively in this instance.

Furthermore, the biggest boon for Turbo is the stunts that were included in the entire movie. Especially in the second half of the Mammootty starrer, the actions were solid and gave a sort of euphoric high with the gravity-defying punches by the Megastar.
