The PR firm for Poonam Pandey issues an apology for the fake death, claiming that Sitharaman’s reference to cervical cancer “made no change!

Poonam Pandey’s PR agency Schbang have apologized for faking her death as part of a cervical cancer awareness campaign, sparking controversy and questioning the ethics of such tactics!

Poonam Pandey fake death

Poonam Pandey had kicked up a controversial storm inviting backlash on Saturday after revealing she had faked her death in an Instagram post as part of a cervical cancer awareness campaign. Now, Pandey’s PR agency, Schbang, has issued a statement apologising for their actions.

The actions by Poonam Pandey and her agency Schbang has questioned the ethics of using these tactics for raising awareness for a health campaign.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Schbang apologised for their actions, particularly to those who have faced or witnessed the challenges of cancer.

“Yes, we were involved in the initiative for Poonam Pandey to spread awareness about Cervical Cancer in collaboration with Hauterfly. To start off, we would like to extend a heartfelt apology – especially towards those who have been triggered as a result of having faced/having a loved one face the hardships of any kind of Cancer,” a statement read.

The PR agency of Poonam Pandey, Schbang, also claimed that that there was no “curiosity regarding cervical cancer” when Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned it during the Union Budget Session 2024 on 1 February.

“Our actions were driven by a singular mission – to elevate awareness about Cervical Cancer. In 2022, India registered 123,907 Cervical Cancer cases and 77,348 deaths. After Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer is the second-most frequent malignancy affecting middle aged women in India,” the PR agency’s statement added.

Justifying Poonam Pandey’s actions that triggered a furore across the nation, the agency claimed her mother battled cancer.

“Many of you may be unaware but Poonam’s own mother has bravely battled Cancer. Having been through the challenges of battling a disease like this at such close personal quarters, she understands the importance of prevention and the criticality of awareness, especially when a vaccine is available,” it added.

Poonam Pandey “bravely fought the disease” and died, on Friday Schbang posted on Poonam Pandey’s Instagram handle, but the fake announcement was soon met with online criticism that included accusations it was a “deceptive stunt”.

A flurry of obituaries from media outlets followed the original announcement and Poonam Pandey’s Wikipedia page was also updated to reflect her apparent death, while Bollywood stars posted mournful tributes.

But others had expressed scepticism after noticing that footage of Pandey aboard a boat in Goa, apparently in good health, had been posted to her account four days before the announcement.

The 32-year-old conceded to her 1.3 million followers in another video posted on Instagram that her death had been a hoax.

“Yes, I faked my demise, extreme I know. But suddenly we all are talking about cervical cancer, aren’t we?” Poonam Pandey said. “I am proud of what my death news has been able to achieve.”

India vs England Live Score 2nd Test, Day 1: Yashasvi Jaiswal got to his century with a six. Follow live updates of IND vs ENG here!

India vs England Live Score 2nd Test, Day 1: Yashasvi Jaiswal has made the most of the start he got in Visakhapatnam by scoring his second Test century. Jaiswal was far more measured in the early part of his innings than in the first Test, biding his time and waiting for the bad balls with opening partner and captain Rohit Sharma at the other end. Rohit had won the toss and chosen to bat first. He ended up becoming spinner Shoaib Bashir’s maiden Test wicket after which Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal and continued on the watchful approach. Eventually, though, the former switched gears and was looking primed for a for a big score when he was undone by the genius of James Anderson. England were then pegged back by a 90-run stand between Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer, with the pair seeing India through to Lunch and then keeping them steady for much of the first half of the second session. Iyer couldn’t convert his start though, falling for 27 off 59 to Tom Hartley. This brought debutant Rajat Patidar to the crease.

Rohit earlier confirmed at the toss that Patidar will be making his debut as a replacement for the injured KL Rahul. Additionally, India have also decided to play Kuldeep Yadav as opposed to going for the all-round option of Washington Sundar in place of Ravindra Jadeja while pacer Mohammed Siraj has been rested and Mukesh Kumar takes his place. Patidar was handed his maiden Test cap minutes before the toss, thus ending speculation about whether it would be him or Sarfaraz Khan who will get to play.

After the first Test ended in four days, the action moves to Visakhapatnam – Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA stadium being the venue – where the second game of the five-match series starts today. India were dealt a shock in Hyderabad by England and then were handed a couple more blows in the days since that first Test ended. However, coming back from 1-0 down in a home series is not something they haven’t done before, even in the recent past in which they have been so dominant at home. India had lost the first of the four-Test series the last time they hosted England and then went on to win it 3-1.

However, India have a couple of complications to deal with in the form of the in-form KL Rahul being ruled out along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The latter’s absence could particularly sting the host with Jadeja being crucial to the team’s cause in Test cricket with ball, bat and in the field in recent years. Kuldeep Yadav could get a chance to feature in the squad. He has missed 56 of India’s 64 Tests since making his debut in 2017. He has been patient to wait for his opportunity which are hard to come by. But the second Test could give him a window that he has been eagerly waiting for. Another frontrunner to replace Jadeja could be Washington Sundar. While Kuldeep may have more experience, Sundar is arguably a better fit as Jadeja’s replacement because of the fact that he is a genuine all-rounder. And of course, there is no Virat Kohli either.

Here are some highlights around India vs England 2nd Test Day 1 here:

– India have won the toss and chosen to bat first

– Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were off to a watchful start

– Shoaib Bashir got his maiden Test wicket in the form of Rohit, who fell on 14

– India are unbeaten in Tests in Visakhapatnam with a 2-0 record following wins over England in 2016 and South Africa in 2019.

– It was at this very venue that Rohit Sharma scores twin centuries in his first Test as opener.

– With KL Rahul out, the toss up is between Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan to make Test debut.

– England have included James Anderson in their Playing XI, which means this is England’s sixth tour of India in which he will be playing a Test.

– Jasprit Bumrah needs 3 more strikes to complete 50 Test wickets against England.

– Ravichandran Ashwin is 4 away from 500 Test wickets for India.

Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann will also take part in the protest, reported claimed.

Interim Budget 2024: Nirmala Sitharaman likely to focus on women, farmers ahead of Lok Sabha polls

Budget 2024: With the economy witnessing rapid expansion and the government reaping the benefits of a tax windfall, expectations are high for targeted measures that could bolster growth and appease voters.

All eyes are set on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as she will present the Interim Budget 2024-25 shortly, setting the stage for the government’s final push before the Lok Sabha elections later this year.

Although this is an interim budget, economists and experts view this as much more than just a financial statement, with Sitharaman expected to provide a detailed economic roadmap on how the government plans to transform India into a developed economy.

With the economy witnessing rapid expansion and the government reaping the benefits of a tax windfall, expectations are high for targeted measures that could bolster growth and appease voters.

It is widely expected that Finance Minister Sithraman’s budget presentation will focus on enhancing farmers’ income, empowering women, and creating jobs.

Here’s a list of what the nation anticipates from Nirmala Sitharaman’s interim budget speech

  • Support for farmers: Amidst last year’s export bans on essential crops and poor rainfall affecting harvests, there is a strong expectation for increased financial support for farmers. This could include enhanced allocations for farm sector schemes and subsidies on essentials like fertilizers and cooking gas.
  • Job creation in focus: With unemployment being a critical concern, the budget is expected to focus on job creation. This may involve investments in sectors that have the potential to generate substantial employment opportunities.
  • Infrastructure push: Consistent with the past emphasis on infrastructure, the government is likely to continue its spending spree on roads, railways, and digital initiatives, which are pivotal for economic growth.
  • Fiscal prudence: Despite the need for spending, maintaining fiscal discipline remains a priority. The government aims to reduce the fiscal deficit to 4.5 percent of GDP by FY26, indicating a careful balance between expenditure and revenue.
  • Income Tax Relief: While chances of major changes in personal taxation remain low, some experts have called for some additional benefits under the old and new income tax regimes to provide some relief to taxpayers for the impact of high inflation.
  • Social security boost: There might be an introduction of a social security fund for informal sector workers, including those in gig jobs, reflecting the government’s focus on inclusive growth.
  • Affordable housing: To address housing needs, the budget may see a significant increase in funding for low-cost housing projects, which would also stimulate the construction industry.
  • Divestment and asset monetization: To improve fiscal health without overburdening taxpayers, the government may continue its divestment drive, aiming to raise funds through strategic asset sales.
  • Women empowerment: Special measures to empower women, such as increased subsidies for cooking gas and loans, are anticipated, recognizing their crucial role in the electorate.
  • Green Energy investments: With a global shift towards sustainable energy, the budget could allocate funds for green hydrogen and electric vehicle initiatives, positioning India at the forefront of the green revolution.

Suspended Punjab AIG Sidhu arrested in fresh extortion case!

Punjab AIG

The district police on Tuesday arrested suspended Punjab Police Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Malwinder Singh Sidhu in an alleged extortion case after some incriminating recordings were found in a recorder recovered from Sidhu when he was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) last year.

The accused AIG was produced in a court and remanded to a three-day police custody.

According to information, a fresh case was registered against Sidhu under Sections 384 (extortion), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and Section 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act at Phase-VIII police station. Sidhu was arrested after registration of the case.

DSP (city-2) Harsimran Singh Bal confirmed the arrest and said police were investigating the case. He refused to divulge details of the recordings on the basis of which the case was registered. “We are investigating it and can disclose things only after questioning him,” the DSP added.

Sources in the police told that during the forensic examination of the recorder that was recovered from Sidhu by the VB when he was arrested in a corruption case, some recordings were found which indicated that Sidhu was extorting money from people.

“The preliminary investigation had indicated that Sidhu, along with his accomplices, was making extortion calls to people and threatening to frame them,” the sources added.

AIG Sidhu was posted in the Human Rights Cell when he was arrested by the VB in November last year. It was alleged in the VB FIR that Sidhu was impersonating the IG posted in VB.

In the past, a spokesperson for the VB had said in a statement that Sidhu used to initiate complaints against government employees, only to subsequently withdraw them in order to blackmail them for illicit gains. The statement also said that during the investigation, it was found that Sidhu, serving as the AIG of the Human Rights Cell since 2017, never held the positions of AIG or IG within the VB in the past five years.
