With an estimated 15% gain, international brokerage Nomura raised its rating for Balkrishna Industries to buy, with a target price of Rs 3,230 per share.

According to the brokerage, the company is about to embark on a demand upcycle, given that rivals globally are also expected to witness a recovery in H2FY25. Nomura predicted that price increases will sustain margins in the future and that Balkrishna Industries’ robust growth momentum will likely continue.

Although Motilal Oswal reported that the company’s results for the quarter ending in March considerably above its projections, the brokerage maintained its neutral rating and raised its price target to Rs 2,535.

There is currently a surge in retail demand in important international markets, and demand in India is still strong. The management did not, however, provide any volume growth guidance for FY25 because of the ongoing geopolitical concerns, which continue to cast doubt on the demand picture in important markets.

IPL 2024 Playoffs: KKR vs SRH in Qualifier 1, RCB-RR clash in Eliminator.

Can KKR vs SRH keep the flavour of their season without Salt? How much of a loss Buttler will be to RR? Is this the RCB’s year at last?

The IPL 2024 playoffs are almost here. Which Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) or Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team would finish the KKR vs SRH playoff lineup was decided in a thrilling match on Saturday. It wasn’t until the very last league game, a washout in Guwahati last night, that we found out who would play who, but we now know. Additionally, none of the top four seeds from 2023 make the cut, making this a totally different playoff lineup than it was the previous year.

Qualifier 1: KKR vs SRH, May 21, Ahmedabad

For the first time, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have concluded the league phase as the top team heading into the first qualifying round. Despite losing their last two games, they ended up with three more points than any other team. Will they be rusted or renewed? If SRH is any indication, taking a vacation from cricket can be beneficial. They returned after a 10-day break, which they attributed to both the weather and the schedule, and they successfully chased 215 against Punjab Kings on Sunday. In IPL 2024, this was SRH’s only other victory in a game they chased.

  • Previous meeting: They’ve played each other only once this season, both team’s first game of IPL 2024. It was a high-scoring thriller that ended in a last-ball four-run win for KKR at Eden Gardens.
  • Player availability: The England players who will be going to the upcoming T20 World Cup have withdrawn early from the IPL, and among them is one of KKR’s lynchpins this season: Sunil Narine’s big-hitting opening partner, Phil Salt.
  • Weather forecast: “Very hot with plenty of sunshine” – that’s the forecast for Ahmedabad on May 21, and the heat will hardly relent as the lights come on for the evening match: it’s a minimum of 31C on the day. The forecast says there’s a 0% chance of rain.

Eliminator: RR vs RCB, May 22, Ahmedabad

RR had won seven of their opening eight games, and on April 22 they were flying high at the top of the table. Conversely, RCB was struggling at the other end of the table, having lost as many games as RR had won, including six straight losses. When we fast-forward to May 20, we see an astounding turnaround: prior to Sunday’s washout, RR had won one out of the previous six games and lost four. With six straight victories under their belt, RCB enters this knockout match with the upper hand.

  • Previous meeting: They’ve played each other once this year, a convincing win for RR in Jaipur, where Virat Kohli hit a century only to be outdone by Jos Buttler.
  • Player availability: This time, RR will be without Buttler, who’s part of the English T20 World Cup contingent that’s left the tournament. RCB will be without Will Jacks and Reece Topley for the same reasons.
  • Weather forecast: The forecast doesn’t change much from Qualifier 1. Ahmedabad should remain hot and dry for the Eliminator.
KKR vs SRH

Qualifier 2: Loser of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of the Eliminator, May 24, Chennai

  • Weather forecast: Some clouds are forecast during the day, but only a 5% chance of rain. A low of 29C, so another hot, sweaty evening in store for the players.

Final: Winner of Qualifier 1 vs Winner of Qualifier 2, May 26, Chennai

There’s a possibility of a first-time winner: RCB, ending a 16-year drought in the same season that their women’s team knocked off the Women’s Premier League title in its second edition.

KKR vs SRH

Or RR could win their first title since the inaugural season when Shane Warne’s relatively unfancied team saw off MS Dhoni’s Super Kings in the final.

For KKR it would be a first title since 2014, and their third overall. Quite the homecoming for Gautam Gambhir, that would be – he had captained KKR to both their previous titles, and played for them till 2017. This season, he shifted from Lucknow Super Giants back to KKR as team mentor.

SRH’s only title (not to confuse them with the other franchise from Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers, who won it in 2009) came in 2016 – can they add to that?

  • Weather forecast: Not much change from Qualifier 2, but slightly hotter even (min. 30 C) and even less chance of rain (4%).

Is Covid back? Singapore sees Surge in Cases; Minister Advises Wearing of Masks | Details

Singapore ministry said the estimated number of Covid-19 cases nearly doubled from 13,700 in previous week to 25,900 in the week of May 5 to 11.

The Singapore government is closely monitoring a new surge in Covid-19 infections, as the estimated weekly case count almost doubled in the week ending May 11. Health minister Ong Ye Kung on Saturday advised the wearing of masks again.

Singapore’s ministry of health stated that the government was closely tracking the trajectory of the new wave. According to the ministry, the estimated number of the Covid-19 cases nearly doubled from 13,700 in the previous week to 25,900 in the week of May 5 to 11.

The ministry reported that average daily Covid-19 hospitalisations increased from 181 to approximately 250 during the same period. To preserve hospital bed capacity, public hospitals have been instructed to reduce non-urgent elective surgeries and transfer appropriate patients to care facilities.

“We are at the beginning part of the wave where it is steadily rising,” health minister Ong Ye Kung said, according to a Straits Times report.

He added, “The wave should peak in the next two to four weeks, which means between mid- and end-June.”

Ong also encouraged those at highest risk of disease—including individuals aged 60 and above, medically vulnerable individuals, and residents of aged care facilities—to get an additional dose of the Covid-19 vaccine if they have not been vaccinated in the past 12 months.

Speaking about social restrictions Ong said there were no plans for any form of social restrictions as of now, as Covid-19 is treated as an endemic disease in Singapore. The minister added that imposing additional measures would be a last resort.

Ong, however, accepted the fact that Singapore, being a transport and communications hub, will be one of the cities that experience a wave of Covid-19 earlier than others.

“So Covid-19 is just something that we have to live with. Every year, we should expect one or two waves,” he said.

Pune Porsche Deaths: Teen Who Killed 2 With Porsche Got Bail In 15 Hours.

The 17-year-old boy at the wheel of the speeding Porsche that hit a bike in Pune Saturday night, killing a man and a woman, was out on bail 15 hours after he was arrested. His lawyer Prashant Patil said a court granted bail to the minor on conditions — he has to work with traffic police in Yerwada for 15 days, write an essay on accidents, undergo treatment for his drinking habit and take counselling sessions. The accused is the son of a prominent Pune realtor.

Twenty-four-year-olds Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both engineers from Madhya Pradesh working in Pune, were returning on a bike after attending a get-together with friends. The Porsche, which eyewitnesses have said was driving at over 200 km per hour and had no number plates, hit the bike. Ashwini was thrown about 20 feet in the air and landed hard, said an eyewitness. Aneesh was thrown at a parked car and suffered serious injuries. Both died on the spot.

“The accident took place around 2.15 am. The car was in full speed. The driver was fleeing after the car hit the bike, but the airbags deployed. He could not see the road and parked the car. And locals caught them. Besides the driver, there were two occupants in the car. One of them escaped. The crowd beat up the other two,” said an eyewitness, an auto-rickshaw operator waiting for a ride.

The eyewitness said police reached the spot in 15 minutes.

The minor, it is learnt, was returning with his friends from a pub where they were partying to celebrate clearing their Class 12 exams.

Following a complaint by a friend of one of the victims, an FIR was registered under sections relating to death by negligence and rash driving. The teenager’s father and the pub that served him alcohol are also likely to be charged, police have said.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said police had urged the court to treat the accused as an adult because this is a “heinous crime” and sought his custody. Police will approach the sessions court against the bail order, he said. “The father of the juvenile accused who handed over this car without a number plate to him to drive and allowed him to go to a pub has also been proceeded against. The establishment that served alcohol has also been proceeded against,” he said.

The case is now being investigated by an Assistant Commissioner of Police-level officer and a “watertight case is being made out”, he said. The police commissioner said it is clear that the boy was driving under the influence of alcohol. Several eyewitnesses have said the teenager and his friends were heavily drunk.

The incident has sparked massive outrage, with many blaming lax laws for deaths due to rash driving and minors on the wheels.

Anurag Kulshrestha, president of an NGO that works for road safety, told NDTV, “There is no fear of law. In Pune, when authorities tried to enforce the helmet rule, all political parties came out to protest. We are living in an indisciplined society.”
