Sanjay Leela Bhansali BREAKS Silence on Audience Reactions to Heeramandi: ‘What Stood Out for Me Was…’

Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, debuted earlier this month. Among the most anticipated television programmes of the year was the series.

For the first time, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali talked about the responses to Heeramandi from the crowd. Bhansali spoke making his OTT debut with the highly anticipated series in a recent interview and said he is amazed by the reception. He went on to say that he was pleased that viewers have binge-watched the Netflix series several times. Heeramandi, for those who are unaware, debuted earlier this month and consisted of eight episodes.

Bhansali noted in an interview with Variety that “the reactions were overwhelming and heart-warming.” The fact that viewers have binge-watched “Heeramandi” and have even seen it twice or three times at once definitely caught my attention. The kind of feedback we have gotten on social media and the variety of content individuals from around the globe are producing in relation to the event was nice to observe.

The Bajirao Mastani director also noted that he is happy the music of the series has caught everyone’s attention. “The music of the series has struck a cord with audiences which is very rare for an OTT show. It’s also reassuring to see how people connected with the story, the life of these courtesans and the emotional journeys of the characters, regardless of their cultural background,” he said.

Released on May 1, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut. The show premiered on Netflix also also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal Mehta, Farida Jalal, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman in key roles. It explores the various aspects of a woman’s trials and tribulations.

News18 gave Showsha 4.5 stars and wrote, “Bhansali pens a near-perfect screenplay, and it is this rich writing that already forms an impressive foundation for the show. Each character is written with a lot of courage, empathy, and sensitivity. Here, each female character is so well-fleshed out, including those in the periphery, that they all deserve a spin-off of their own.”

Although critics praised the series, fans were not on board with Sharmin’s performances. Many criticised her acting. While her co-stars have defended her, Bhansali remained tight-lipped about it.

As audiences become more visually sophisticated, the demand for high-quality effects and innovative storytelling methods is likely to increase, paving the way for a new era in Bollywood cinema focused on technological excellence and creative storytelling.

While they look to win their first championship in Eliminator 1 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have taken the crowd by surprise by winning six straight games. However, RR has fallen short of them after dropping their latest game and losing four in a row. The team will rely on performances from its batting aces, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel, as they attempt to recapture their previous momentum.

Player Statistics (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

1. Virat Kohli

Leading from the front as the highest run-scorer of the tournament so far, Virat Kohli has been a crucial driving force in RCB campaign. The Indian batter has scored a mind-boggling 708 runs from 14 matches at an average of 64.36 which included 5 fifties and a solitary hundred.

2. Faf Du Plessis

RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis has kept the momentum high in the opening unit alongside Virat Kohli. The Protean cricketer has given a rock-solid start to the team while setting and chasing totals. Du Plessis has scored 421 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 163.81 which includes four fifties to his name.

Players who can make a difference

1. Yash Dayal

Yash Dayal has bowled comprehensively this season, leading as the highest wicket-taker for RCB. One of the most proficient players at the death, the left-arm pacer bowled the decisive last over against CSK in the last match which turned the fortunes of RCB as they qualified for the playoffs.

2. Dinesh Karthik

Veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik’s contribution in the lower-middle order have been very crucial for the RCB. Karthik can shift the momentum rapidly down the order by providing 20-30 extra runs to the scoreline. In 14 matches, the RCB batter has scored 315 runs at a soaring strike rate of 195.65 with 2 fifties to his name.

Player Statistics (Rajasthan Royals)

1. Riyan Parag

Left-hand batter Riyan Parag has been impressive in the middle-order for the Royals. The young gun scored 531 runs from 14 matches with four fifties to his name and the highest score for him being an unbeaten 84.

2. Sanju Samson

Skipper Sanju Samson has kept the hopes alive for RR in crucial junctures of the match, even when the other players have faltered in the batting unit. Being the second highest run scorer in the team, Samson has scored 504 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 156.52 with 5 fifties to his name.

Players who can make a difference

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

RR’s spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal has been the highest wicket-taker for the Royals so far. The Indian wrist spinner has picked timely wickets and stopped the flow of runs in the testing phases of the game. Chahal has picked 17 wickets from 13 matches at an economy of 9.38.

2. Sandeep Sharma

Medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma has been one of the trickiest players to deal with in the Royals line-up. The Indian bowler has played a vital role in restraining the run-flow in the middle and death overs. In 9 matches, Sandeep has picked 10 wickets at an excellent economy of 7.93.

Head-to-head

As the two teams contest for the 32nd time in the history of IPL, their head-to-head has been in favour of the Royal Challengers who won 15 meetings. The inaugural edition champions follow them with 13 wins with 4 matches ending in no result.

Pitch Report

The Narendra Modi Stadium has been a batting paradise that offers a lot of scoring opportunities for the batsmen. The due factor in the second innings acts as an icing on the cake for the team batting second. And evidently so, out of the 33 matches played here at this venue, 18 matches have been won by teams batting second. Thus, the teams winning the toss must bowl first at this venue and restrict the team to a chasable total.

Match Prediction

As resurgent RCB come from six consecutive wins, the momentum will be convincingly in their favour against a struggling RR who have lost four consecutive encounters. With Virat Kohli and co. looking in fiery hot form, the RCB stand as the favourites to win the clash. As per the Google Win Predictor, Bangalore have a 55% chance of winning the match against the former champions.

Elections to the Lok Sabha in 2024: Prashant Kishor Highlights, “If BJP Wins, But Less Than 370, Market May…

The BJP’s goal of 370 seats, according to Prashant Kishor, is a “smart” strategy that has helped them alter the conversation surrounding the election.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor believes that had the opposition not blown many opportunities to come back while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was in the minority, it would have been in a stronger position going into the Lok Sabha Elections of 2024.

Kishor stated that the BJP’s repeated defeats in state assembly elections in 2015 and 2016 was the first instance of this kind of thing.

“The Aam Aadmi Party won the Delhi assembly elections in January 2015.” That following November, the BJP was defeated in the Bihar elections. Assembly elections were held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam the next year till May. Only Assam would be won by the BJP, and only then in coalition. Since PM Modi’s popularity had only started to climb (post-2014), those 15–18 months presented a chance for the Congress-led opposition to mount a comeback,” Kishor said in an interview with NDTV.

Also Read India and China Relations: Back to Basics.

Another opportunity that the opposition had, according to Kishor, was after 2016 demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1,000 banknotes by the PM Modi-led government.

“There was a kind of turbulence in the country. You can call it economic or rural distress. The BJP won the UP assembly elections in 2017 but if you remember there was protest by Patels ahead of Gujarat elections. There were protests in Maharashtra too,” Kishor said.

That was not a good time for the BJP and PM Modi, he said. “In November 2017 Gujarat polls, the Congress, though lost, but performed well. The BJP could somehow manage to win by 15 odd seats. In the coming months, the BJP lost Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh elections. So this was another 15-17 month period from mid 2017 till end of 2018 when the BJP was on the back foot but the opposition missed the chance,” Kishor said.

Kishor said the opposition missed another opportunity in June 2021 post second Covid-19 wave when there was a dip in the Prime Minister’s approval ratings. The BJP had just lost the West Bengal state elections, then, he said.

“The last chance for the opposition was when many parties came together and former INDIA bloc in June 2023. And there was a murmur across the country that at least, we have a challenge coming up against the BJP which could have ended with 220-240 seats in 2024 elections. But for months there was no movement forward,” Kishor told NDTV.

Also Read Sambit Patra ‘Slip of Tongue’ on Lord Jagannath by BJP causes Controversy, says PM Modi.

Kishor has predicted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP will return to power in Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

And I am told that the Congress predicted victory in five assembly elections in November-December 2023, which it didn’t. They though INDIA bloc would start the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from a position of strength. And in this thought they lost the crucial 4-5 months while the BJP had already started campaigning under PM Modi. In fact, for two months after the Ram Mandir event, the opposition had almost given up. And by the time they woke up in February, it was too late,” he said.

With voting in 49 seats being held in the phase 5 on May 20, the election to 428 of the 543 seats is over. The remaining two phases will be held on May 25 and June 1. Counting votes for all seven Lok Sabha Elections phases will occur on June 4.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), seeking a record third term under PM Narendra Modi, has set a target of winning 400 seats this election. The ruling alliance is challenged by the opposition parties led by the Congress under the banner of the INDIA bloc.

Anthony Edwards Subtly makes Fun of Karl-Anthony Towns’ Infamous “After All That” Saying During Press Conference.

Anthony Edwards jested on his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns during the post-game interview after the Timberwolves clinched the Western Conference semifinal series against the Denver Nuggets. Edwards
subtly made fun of Towns’ infamous “after all that” saying by humorously repeating the line after Towns said it during the interview.
Edwards repeating his teammate was likely a throwback to Towns’ viral moment of him saying “after all that” in a different voice over a year ago during an unofficial interview.

Also Read Sanjay Leela Bhansali On His Friendship With Salman Khan: “Even If Inshallah Didn’t Happen, He Stands By Me”

Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards combined for 39 points as the Timberwolves defeated the reigning champions 98-90 in Game 7 to advance to the Western Conference finals. Towns led the team’s winning effort, registering 23 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
The Timberwolves’ stunning comeback from a 15-point hole at halftime set an NBA playoff record for the biggest turnaround in Game 7. Edwards was instrumental in the comeback, starting with four points and three assists at halftime before finishing with 16 points, eight
rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

“Man, f**k them 9 years”: Anthony Edwards hilariously interrupts Karl-Anthony Towns during career reflection

Before the current season, the Minnesota Timberwolves were unable to win a single playoff series since 2004. The team missed the postseason for 14 consecutive years since then before ending their drought in 2018.
Drafted first overall by the Timberwolves in 2015, Karl-Anthony Towns experienced the organization’s struggles firsthand. The four-time NBA All-Star missed the playoffs in five of his first six years in the league and only won his first playoff series in his ninth year.
Towns reflected upon his nine-year Timberwolves tenure during the post-game interview after clinching the series against the Nuggets on Sunday.

Edwards was drafted first overall by the Timberwolves in 2020. The 22- year-old led the team to the playoffs for three straight seasons and
has established himself as one of the league’s premier young stars.
Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards will look to make a deeper playoff run as the Minnesota Timberwolves face the Dallas Mavericks next for the Western Conference finals.

India and China Relations: Back to Basics.

On 27 April, the defence minister of India, Rajnat Singh, met his Chinese counterpart, Li Shangfu, on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers Meeting in Delhi. The meeting was yet another attempt to find a way out of the three-year-long standoff between thousands of soldiers along the disputed border, which began in May 2020 when Indian and Chinese forces clashed in the Galwan Valley, killing 20 Indian soldiers and an undisclosed number of Chinese ones. Since then, officials from both countries have met for 18 rounds of talks to try to agree on a disengagement of troops from the area with no success. India has blamed China for unilaterally trying to move the border by sending troops beyond the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between the countries. While it is in both China’s and India’s interest to settle the dispute, Beijing seems unwilling to engage in actual negotiations about the LAC, instead expressing hope that the two sides could move on from the issue and strengthen their mutual trust.

India’s and China’s dispute along the border is illustrative of the growing rivalry between the two countries, which is shaping the security landscape and strategic environment of South Asia. China is gaining power and influence in the Indo-Pacific – where India has long been the dominant power – and using it as yet another arena for its strategic rivalry with the United States. Given Europe’s trade with the region and the complex interplay of relations between China, the US, India, Russia, and the European Union, this dynamic will have severe consequences not just for the region, but for Europe as well.

Also Read Sambit Patra ‘Slip of Tongue’ on Lord Jagannath by BJP causes Controversy, says PM Modi.

Beijing has tightened its grip over the entire Indian Ocean region in the past two decades. It has created a network of military and commercial facilities – the so-called string of pearls – and strengthened its economic relations with countries of the region. In 2022, Sri Lankan debt obligations to China rose to $7 billion, while the Maldives owes some 40 per cent of its GDP to China. These economic dependencies have eroded India’s influence in its immediate neighbourhood. New Delhi had built up strong diplomatic ties with other countries in the region through its “island diplomacy” and initiatives such as the Security and Growth for all in the Region maritime cooperation. China’s investment in the region has now pushed New Delhi into an economic competition which it may ultimately have difficulties sustaining.

New Delhi still exerts a dominant role in South Asia and, specifically, the Indian Ocean, but as China consolidates its position in the region, its attitude towards India has become more assertive. India remains resolute about preventing Chinese hegemony in Asia, repeatedly stressing that a multipolar world starts with a multipolar Asia, and seeking partnerships with a variety of countries, including the US and the EU. Beijing is concerned about India’s growing military ties with the US and tends to consider India’s intentions through the lens of its own rivalry with the US. India’s inability to push back China at the border also further diminishes New Delhi’s influence over the smaller regional states, namely Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and even the Maldives, by absorbing the financial, military, and administrative resources that could be spent on expanding India’s footprint in the region. It also poses questions about India’s relative power and its ability to protect smaller neighbouring countries from Chinese coercion. This leaves New Delhi even more isolated in the region that includes its arch-rival Pakistan.

Both India and China insist that they want to rebuild trust but they cannot agree on the process. Because it currently has the upper hand, China would like trust building to remain a strictly bilateral matter and does not want organisations such as the G20 and the SCO, the other three BRICS states – Brazil, Russia, and South Africa – or even the ASEAN-led institutions to play any role in the so far hypothetical normalisation process. In doing so, China challenges India’s multilateral aspirations and de facto reduces New Delhi’s capacity to manage collectively the consequences of China’s rise for itself and the region. The war in Ukraine makes this even easier as Russia, traditionally on India’s side in multilateral regional arrangements, seems distracted and neutralised by its new, albeit uneasy, proximity to China.

The escalating tensions and aggression since 2013 are therefore no coincidence. Beijing’s coercion on the border and naval build-up in the Indian Ocean force India into a costly arms race and warn it against what Beijing considers excessive proximity to the US. In the ongoing great power competition between China and the US, every issue becomes a zero-sum game. This makes it harder for India to solve its border conflict with China and at the same time manage China’s rise and growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region in a peaceful manner.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali On His Friendship With Salman Khan: “Even If Inshallah Didn’t Happen, He Stands By Me”

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been making headlines for the past couple of weeks courtesy his latest offering – Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the director opened up about the friendship he shares with Salman Khan, who has also starred in a number of films directed by him. During the interview, Sanjay said, “The only person that I’m still friendly with is Salman Khan. Even if Inshallah didn’t happen, he stands by me. He’ll call me; he’ll care for me. ‘Are you okay? Is there anything (you need)? You’ve goofed up, you messed up’. I enjoy his humour so much. It (phone call) comes once in three months, once in five months, but it comes because he doesn’t care about my film. He cares about me. ‘You, bro, you’ve done so many films with me, it doesn’t matter. Are you okay?’ And that is what it is all about.”

For those wondering, the two had been involved in the making of Inshallah but the project got shelved due to creative differences.

Talking about the film that didn’t go through, the director said, “On work, we may have sparred, we may have not had our moment correct, and it didn’t fall into place. But after one month, he called me, and I called him, and we talked. So that is a friend. In that sense, I’m fortunate enough to have that friend who once in six months will speak and will exactly start from where we left.”

Salman Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have worked together in films like Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Saawariya etc.

After the magnificent success of Heeramandi, the director is now gearing up for the shooting of his next film Love & War, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles. The film is slated to release in December 2025.
