Today’s stock market: An explanation of the 13% increase in SpiceJet’s share price!

Today's stock market

Today’s stock market: SpiceJet share price today opened upside and went on to touch an intraday high of ₹71.90 apiece on NSE

Stock market today: Amid the bull trend in the Indian stock market, SpiceJet shares witnessed strong buying interest during Friday deals. SpiceJet share price today opened upside and went on to touch an intraday high of ₹71.90 apiece, logging around 13 percent intraday rise against its Thursday close of ₹63.63 apiece on NSE. While climbing to the intraday high, the aviation company’s stock came close to its existing 52-week high of ₹77.50 that it had achieved on 5th February 2024.

According to stock market experts, the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has released the January 2024 data in which it has reported that the low-cost carrier has managed to hold on to its market share in January 2024.

The DGCA data shows that SpiceJet has managed to hold on to its market share at 5.6 percent in January 2024. The DGCA data also reported that passenger traffic surged by 4.7 percent in January 2024.

DGCA data in focus

Speaking on the reason for the rise in SpiceJet shares, Avinash Gorakshkar, Head of Research at Profitmart Securities said, “The aviation stock is rising after the release of DGCA January data. In this data, SpiceJet has been reported holding on to its market share of 5.6 percent and the market is expecting benefits for the listing aviation company after DGCA reports a 4.7 percent rise in the number of flight passengers in January 2024.”

Gorakshkar said that the trigger is for the short term, and profit-booking on higher levels may trigger if there is no rebound after the current retracement from intraday’s high.

SpiceJet share price target

On the outlook of SpiceJet shares, Sumeet Bagadia, Executive Director at Choice Broking said, “SpiceJet shares are currently trading in the ₹60 to ₹75 per share range. the aviation stock may become highly bullish on breaching the upper hurdle of the current range whereas it may go further down if it breaches the lower support of its current range. So, a bullish or bearish trend can be assumed on the breakage of either side of the current range. SpiceJet shareholders are advised to hold the scrip maintaining stop loss below ₹60.”

Just two weeks before elections, when the Opposition’s accounts are frozen, it is equivalent to freezing the democracy,” Maken said

Recently, The State Bank of India has been ordered to cease issuing electoral bonds “immediately” after the Supreme Court declared them to be “unconstitutional.” The supreme court’s decision was made months before the Lok Sabha elections. As part of efforts to increase transparency in political funding, the government announced the scheme on January 2, 2018, and it was positioned as an alternative to cash donations made to political parties. Using electoral bonds, the Congress made ₹171 crore as opposed to ₹236 crore in 2021–2022.

Ishan Kishan misses another round of Ranji Trophy despite BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s ‘red ball cricket’ directive

Ranji Trophy 2024: Days after BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that centrally-contracted players need to play domestic red-ball cricket, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan missed a home game for Jharkhand against Rajasthan.

In Short

  • Ishan Kishan has not played a single Ranji Trophy match this season
  • Ishan has not played competitive cricket since November 2023
  • BCCI secretary Jay Shah said red-ball domestic cricket is mandatory for contracted players

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan missed the last round of Ranji Trophy 2024 as he was not named in the playing XI for Jharkhand in their Elite Group A match against Rajasthan at the Keenan Stadium in Jharkhand. Ishan’s decision to not play the Ranji Trophy match comes days after Indian cricket board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed the board’s directive to contracted players.

Ishan Kishan did not play a single match for Jharkhand in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season after he sought a break from a Test series in South Africa reportedly due to mental fatigue. Ishan was not considered for selection in the home T20I series agianst Afghanistan and the ongoing Test series against England.

Notably, head coach Rahul Dravid said earlier in the month that Ishan Kishan needs to make himself available first and then play domestic cricket before thinking of being selected for the senior national team.

Jharkhand continued with Kumar Kushagra as their wicketkeeper-batter for the final round of group stages in Ranji Trophy against Rajasthan.

Ishan Kishan has begun training again after the long break and was even spotted training with his Mumbai Indians teammate and captain Hardik Pandya in Mumbai ahead of the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Only on Wednesday, BCCI secretary, speaking to the press during the unveiling of the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, said that the board and the selectors will not tolerate “any tantrums” from centrally-contracted players.

“They have been informed on phone already and I’m going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket,” Shah said.

“(It applies to) whoever is fit and young – we are not going to tolerate any other tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players. Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his own calls freely,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Deepak Chahar also missed the match for Rajasthan in Jamshedpur.

Shreyas Iyer, who was not picked for the last three Tests against England, also missed the Ranji Trophy outing for Mumbai on Friday. It is unclear whether Iyer picked up a back injury that led to his axing from the Test squad.

Israel raids largest Gaza hospital over hostage concerns, Hamas denies allegations

Israeli forces conducted a precise and limited raid on Nasser Hospital in Gaza, alleging Hamas terrorists’ presence and hostage-keeping.

In Short

  • Israeli forces raid Gaza’s largest hospital, Nasser Hospital, alleging the presence of Hamas terrorists
  • Chaos, gunfire reported as health staff, patients, and individuals forced to evacuate
  • Hamas denies allegations, accusing Israel of spreading lies and displacing medical personnel and patients

Israeli forces said on Thursday they had raided the biggest functioning hospital in Gaza as footage showed chaos, shouting and gunfire in dark corridors filled with dust and smoke.

Israel’s military called the raid on Nasser Hospital “precise and limited” and said it was based on information that Hamas militants were hiding and had kept hostages in the facility, with some bodies of captives possibly there.

Hamas called that lies.

Health authorities in the Hamas-run Palestinian enclave said Israel had forced out dozens of staff, patients, displaced people and families of medical staff sheltering in the hospital. Some 2,000 Palestinians arrived in the southern border city of Rafah overnight while others pushed north to Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza, they said.

The war began on October 7 when Hamas sent fighters into Israel, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and seizing 253 hostages according to Israeli tallies.

Israel’s air and ground offensive has since devastated tiny, crowded Gaza, killing 28,663 people, also mostly civilian, according to health authorities, and forcing nearly all of its more than 2 million inhabitants from their homes.

In a new operation, the Israeli military said it carried out an air strike that killed a Hamas commander who had participated in the October 7 attack. He had also held captive a female Israeli soldier who was executed by Hamas, the military said.

Separately, medical officials said an Israeli strike killed three Palestinians in a car in Gaza City. Their identities were not immediately clear.

The Israeli military said a soldier was killed in fighting in southern Gaza, bringing its total losses since ground incursions began on October 20 to 235.

The medical charity Medicins San Frontieres said Israel shelled Nasser Hospital in the early hours, despite having told medical staff and patients they could remain.

“Our medical staff have had to flee the hospital, leaving patients behind,” it said on social media platform X, adding a member of its staff was detained at an Israeli checkpoint set up to screen those leaving the compound.

Fighting at the hospital comes as Israel faces growing international pressure to show restraint, after vowing to press its offensive into Rafah, the last relatively safe place in Gaza.

Attacks that have destroyed the majority of Gaza’s medical facilities have caused particular concern, including Israeli raids on hospitals in other cities, shelling in the vicinity of hospitals and the targeting of ambulances.

As massive bombardment destroyed swathes of residential districts and forced most people from their homes, hospitals quickly became the focus for displaced people seeking shelter around buildings they thought more likely to be safe.

Israel accuses Hamas of regularly using hospitals, ambulances and other medical facilities for military purposes, and has aired footage taken by its troops that it says shows tunnels containing weapons below some hospitals.

The Israeli military said it apprehended various suspects at Nasser Hospital and that its operations there were continuing.

Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said Israel was lying about Nasser as it had about other hospitals.

VIDEO SHOWS HOSPITAL CHAOS

Speaking about the hospital raid, Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said “This sensitive operation was prepared with precision and is being conducted by IDF special forces who underwent specified training”.

One objective of the operation was to ensure the hospital could continue treating Gazan patients and “we communicated this in a number of conversations we had with the hospital staff,” he said, adding there was no obligation to evacuate.

Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qidra said the hospital would run out of fuel within the next 24 hours, threatening the lives of patients, including six in intensive care and three infants in the neonatal ward.

Hagari said Israel had arranged the transfer of medical supplies and fuel to the hospital in coordination with international organisations.

Videos that Reuters verified on Thursday as having been filmed inside Nasser Hospital – though it could not check when – showed chaos and terror.

Men walked through corridors using phone lights, with plaster dust swirling around and debris lying about, at one point wheeling a bed through a damaged area.

In one video, gunshots rang out and a doctor shouted: “Is there anyone still inside? There is gunfire, there is gunfire – heads down”.

Another man in a video said the Israeli army had surrounded the hospital and nobody could get out.

Mohammad al Moghrabi, who had been sheltering in the compound, said some people who attempted to leave on Wednesday were shot at and so returned to the hospital.

“This morning they said there was a safe passage, so we left, but it wasn’t safe. They approached us with a bulldozer and a tank, they insulted us and left us for four hours under the sun.”

Performing her own stunts in Crakk, Amy Jackson looks forward to Andreas, her son, seeing “mom do action on screen” | Exclusive!

Amy Jackson

British actress Amy Jackson was a regular face in Indian cinema, from down south to even Bollywood, before she took a break for maternity, which got stretched longer due to Covid. Now, the actress is returning after years in a supporting role in the Vidyut Jammwal and Arjun Rampal-starrer action thriller Crakk. In an exclusive chat with DNA, Amy talks about her comeback and doing her own stunts.

Far from being a damsel in distress, in Crakk, Amy plays a Polish Europol agent, who kicks butt. “I definitely had to amp up the action to keep up with Vidyut,” she says laughing, “He is the inspiration behind Crakk. My research involved watching his Commando films to kind of set the tone for what to expect on the set. Luckily enough, I do incorporate boxing and muay thai in my fitness regimen on a day-to-day basis. I have done that since 2019 when I had my little boy. I also follow the sport closely too. I think because I am into martial arts, I can translate that well on screen.

And if that’s not all, Amy has performed all her action and stunts in Crakk herself. “It’s all me. There was no stunt double,” she says, beaming, “I take a lot of pride in that. The training that has been going on in the background unknowingly over the last five years has helped. I dubbed for myself too because it adds to the character.”

Crakk will mark Amy’s return to Hindi films after almost eight years. Her last release in the language was Freaky Ali back in 2016. After that, she appeared in Rajinikanth’s Tamil blockbuster 2.0, before taking a five-year break from acting. She returned with the Tamil film Mission last month and now follows it up with Crakk. Talking about what made her choose these two titles for her comeback, she says, “We have had a lot of scripts come in and lots of narrations over the past 18 months. These are the two films that I said yes to. It was a sort of a comeback because of the gap due to Covid and having my little boy. I fell in love with these two because of the really strong female roles. It’s not a female-centric film but the character itself defies the stereotypes of women that have been seen over the past 20-30 years worldwide in cinema.”

For Amy, Crakk is also special since it is her foray into Bollywood action, and that is a genre her four-year-old son Andreas loves a lot. Talking about his reaction to the film, Amy says, “I am laughing thinking about it. I am very much looking forward to it. He actually came to the sets of Mission with me. He spent Diwali there and was on set sitting in the director’s chair. It was such an incredible experience for him because it took me 17 years for me to land up on a film set and he is seeing this world now. I am very much looking forward to seeing his response because he was impressed with what I did on Mission. Mummy definitely earned some brownie points for that.”

Crakk, which also stars Vidyut Jammwal, Arjun Rampal, and Nora Fatehi, releases in theatres on February 23. The film, described as an extreme sports film, is directed by Aditya Datt.

Surprising benefits of drinking Hing water on empty stomach every day!

From stimulating digestive enzymes, preventing sugar spikes to easing respiratory issues, a glass of hing water every morning can address many health woes.

drinking Hing water

Hing water is a superfood you must include in your daily diet for reaping a wealth of health benefits from smooth digestion to weight loss. Also known as asafoetida, hing is derived from the roots of the Ferula plant. It is a popular spice that’s used in Indian kitchen extensively. Easy to make, hing water can be prepared by adding a pinch of hing in a glass of boiling water. After giving it some time to steep, the water is strained and consumed. Alternatively, for those who prefer to incorporate it into their meals, hing can be added during tempering to enhance flavour and improve digestibility.

Hing water has a variety of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. Drinking it first thing in the morning can boost digestive enzymes which can support gut health and help with chronic constipation. The spice is also known to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as bloating and gas. Hing can also be beneficial for people with diabetes as it can prevent sugar spikes. Having hing water on empty stomach can help clear airways, making breathing easy for people with respiratory issues.

In the quest for optimal health, individuals often seek out various remedies and practices that promise to boost wellness. Among these, the consumption of hing water on an empty stomach has gained traction for its purported health benefits. Hing, also known as asafoetida, is a resin derived from the roots of the Ferula plant, commonly used as a spice in Indian cuisine. While it adds flavour to dishes, its potential health benefits extend beyond the kitchen,” says Eshanka Wahi, a nutritionist, Holistic Wellness Coach, and the founder of Eat Clean with Eshanka.

Benefits of hing water

Wahi shares many benefits of hing water consumption early in the morning be it aiding digestion to regulating blood sugar.

1. Aids digestion: Hing has been traditionally used to aid digestion due to its carminative properties. Drinking hing water on an empty stomach stimulates the production of digestive enzymes, facilitating the breakdown of food and relieving symptoms of indigestion such as bloating and gas. This makes it an excellent choice for those with sensitive stomachs or digestive issues.

2. Relieves flatulence and bloating: Hing contains compounds like umbrelliprenin and ferulic acid, which have anti-flatulent properties. Consuming hing water regularly can help alleviate bloating and discomfort caused by excessive gas accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract, promoting better digestive health and comfort throughout the day.

3. Anti-inflammatory effects: Chronic inflammation is linked to various health issues, including digestive disorders. Hing possesses anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce inflammation in the gut, potentially providing relief from conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gastritis. Drinking hing water regularly may contribute to a healthier gut environment.

4. Improves respiratory health: Hing is known for its expectorant properties, which can help alleviate respiratory issues such as asthma, bronchitis, and coughing. Drinking hing water on an empty stomach may help clear mucus from the airways, making breathing easier and promoting overall respiratory health.

5. Regulates blood sugar levels: Preliminary studies suggest that hing may have hypoglycaemic properties, meaning it can help lower blood sugar levels. By consuming hing water on an empty stomach, individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing the condition may potentially benefit from improved blood sugar control.

6. Boosts immunity: Hing contains antioxidants and antimicrobial compounds that may help strengthen the immune system and protect against infections. Starting your day with hing water can bolster your body’s defences, making you less susceptible to common illnesses such as colds and flu.

Wahi, however, warns that individual responses may vary with hing water and it should not be considered a cure-all solution. Moderation is the key, and it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or nutritionist before making significant changes to your diet.
