CDS Exam Pattern for INA, AFA, IMA

CDS Exam Pattern OTA

OTA (Officers Training Academy) has a different exam pattern as compared to the IMA, INA, and AFA exams. The exam pattern for the UPSC CDS OTA exam has been given below for the candidates to know the intricate pattern of the exam easily:

  • The written exam for OTA comprises two sections: English and General Knowledge
  • The total exam duration for OTA is four hours (each section is for two hours)

CDS Negative Marking

  • For the incorrect answer, 1/3 mark is deducted

CDS Exam Pattern 2024 for SSB Interview

The SSB Interview for IMA, INA, and AFA is for 300 marks each while for OTA, it is 200. The SSB Interview procedure consists of two stages: I and II. Only those candidates who qualify the stage I are permitted to appear in stage II. The details of both stages are given below:

Instructions to fill CDS Answer Sheet

The candidates appearing for the CDS  exam must know the instructions to fill out the CDS exam answer sheet so that they do not make any mistakes while filling out the OMR answer sheet. The instructions to fill out the answer sheet are given below.

  • As soon as the candidate receives the answer sheet, they should check that it is numbered at the bottom. If it is found un-numbered they should at once get it replaced by a numbered one
  • Candidates should write with a black ball pen the name of the centre and subject in English or Hindi
  • The test booklet series is indicated by Alphabets A, B, C, or D at the top right-hand corner of the booklet
  • Write roll numbers exactly as it is in your e-Admission Certificate with a black ball pen in the boxes provided for this purpose. Do not omit any zero(s) which may be there
    The next step is to find out the appropriate subject code from the Time Table
  • Encode the Test Booklet Series, Subject Code, and Roll Number in the circles provided for this purpose. Do the encoding with a black ball pen. The name of the Centre need not be encoded

CDS Syllabus 2024

The standard of the papers in Elementary Mathematics is of Matriculation level. The standard of papers in other subjects is approximately such as may be expected of a graduate of an Indian University. The question paper is designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. General Knowledge includes knowledge of current events and such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. What is CDS Exam?

The Indian Military Academy (IMA)

  • An officer-training academy of the Indian Army in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
  • It was established in 1932 following a recommendation by a military committee set up under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Philip Chetwode.
  • Cadets undergo a training course varying between 3 and 16 months depending on entry criteria.

The Air Force Academy (AFA)

  • Located in Medchal-Malkajgiri district 43 km from Hyderabad, in Telangana.
  • It imparts training to the flying, technical and ground duty branches of IAF as well as officers of the Indian Navy & the Indian Coast Guard.
  • Period of training: 1 year.
  • Women cadets are being inducted since June 1993.
  • Motto: “Shram se Siddhi” “श्रम से सिद्धि”
  • Mission of AFA: To inspire and transform outstanding young men and women into courageous, dynamic, intellectual and cultured young Air Warriors; motivated to lead one of the leading aerospace forces of the world in service to the nation.

The Officers’ Training Academy (OTA)

  • Training establishment of the Indian Army that train officers for the Short Service Commission (SSC).
  • Course duration: 49 weeks course
  • OTA prepares graduates for all branches of the Army, except for the Army Medical Corps (AMC).
  • Motto of OTA: “Serve With Honour”
  • The SSC Short Service commission officer’s tenure is 10+4 years (i.e. a compulsory 10 years of service and 4 years as extension).
  • After the completion of this tenure the officers can either opt for a Permanent commission (which will be given only based upon the performance seen by confidential reports, etc.) or can opt out of the Indian Army.
  • The ex NDA and CTW officers have a slight edge over their SSC counterparts in courses owing to the fact that they have trained three years more than the SSC entries.
  • You can convert from a short service commission to a permanent commission, however the vice versa is not possible.

NDA Exam Pattern 2024 for Written Exam

The exam paper of NDA written exam is divided into two parts, GAT and Mathematics. All the questions in the exam will be objective type. NDA Qualifying Marks

To qualify NDA exam, candidates need to secure the overall and section-wise qualifying marks or cutoff marks in the exam. Candidates need to secure 25 per cent in each section. The overall qualifying marks of the written exam is calculated out of 900 marks. Candidates need to secure separate qualifying marks in the written exam and SSB interview.

NDA Exam Date 2024: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released NDA 2 notification 2024 on May 15, 2024. The application form is available from May 15 to June 4, 2024. NDA 2 2024 exam will be conducted on September 1, 2024.

The admit card is released three weeks before the exam. NDA admit card is released online which candidates need to download either by entering registration number or roll number. The steps to download NDA admit card are given below:

NDA Exam Timing

NDA exam is conducted in two shifts-morning and afternoon shifts. The exam for the morning shift is conducted from 10 am to 12.30 pm whereas the exam for the afternoon shift is conducted from 2 pm to 4.30 pm. NDA shift timings are given below.

2. Take short strolls during breaks:

It can be physically and mentally exhausting to sit still for extended periods of time. Candidates can take quick walks in their backyard or at a local park to relieve some of their stress. Experts advise that interacting with people and taking in the fresh air both reduce stress and emit positive energy. Retired academic Dr. Leena Dutta stated, “It is usually suggested for applicants to partake in hobbies like short walks or fun-talking with family members or close friends for brief spells as such activities serve as stress busters during an exam as crucial as the UPSC. They also greatly aid in preserving a healthy mental equilibrium.

3. Light activities to keep the mind under control:

Preparations for such exams should ideally be interspersed with some light exercise and short recourse to fun breaks like watching a hilarious show on the TV or listening to soft music, but certainly not very loud. “Such short breaks in between the preparations go a long way in keeping the mind under a healthy emotional control,” says Barsha Das, who cracked the APSC examinations in 2022 and is now placed as DSP with the Government of Assam.

4. Light board games to keep the mind relaxed:

Board games, while not seen as a major form of entertainment, can be a very useful tool for maintaining mental clarity and relaxation during the tense test periods. According to Dr. Amal Kumar Sarma, a retired chief medical and health officer, “humble as these games may appear on the surface, they have a great potential for keeping the mind balanced and composed without any aggressive postures.”

Rathore proved her persistent determination in 2016 when she passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination on her second attempt. She attained an amazing All India Rank of 93, which is a monument to the power of self-belief and unrelenting commitment. She is even more remarkable for having done this without official guidance, which enhances her standing as a national role model for aspirational people.

IFS officer: Her first attempt in 2013 ended in disappointment, followed by another failed attempt in 2016, despite reaching the interview stage

Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Pujya Priyadarshini faced numerous setbacks in her pursuit of success in the UPSC exams. Despite failing thrice and contemplating quitting, the unwavering support of her family encouraged her to give it another try. Her journey embodies the adage that every success story is also a tale of great adversity.

Initially, Priyadarshini’s dreams of becoming an IAS officer seemed out of reach as she struggled through failures. After completing her B.Com in Delhi, she pursued a post-graduation in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York. During this time, she juggled her studies with work commitments, all the while preparing diligently for the UPSC exams.

Her first attempt in 2013 ended in disappointment, followed by another failed attempt in 2016, despite reaching the interview stage. Undeterred by these setbacks, she resolved to persevere. However, 2017 brought further disappointment when she narrowly missed success in the preliminary examination, leading her to consider giving up on her UPSC aspirations altogether.

Yet, it was the unwavering support and encouragement from her family that reignited her determination. Bolstered by their belief in her abilities, Priyadarshini summoned the courage to make one final attempt.

Her persistence paid off when she secured an impressive All India Rank 11 in the 2018 UPSC exam, finally realizing her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

Reflecting on her journey, Priyadarshini offers valuable advice to fellow aspirants. She emphasizes the importance of hard work, patience, and resilience in the face of failure. A man of many talents, Shrikant Jichkar was an accomplished individual. He was a civil servant, philanthropist, lawyer, researcher, doctor, and politician!

Shrikant Jichkar was an accomplished man with a wealth of skills. He was a politician as well as a civil servant, a researcher, physician, lawyer, journalist, and a philanthropist. He died in a tragic car accident in 2004, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and service, but he also left behind his name permanently etched in the annals of Indian history. 

Shrikant Jichkar belongs to a Marathi family. He was born on September 14, 1954, and is widely regarded by many as India’s most educated person. IAS officer Shrikant Jichkar entered politics after leaving the service. At just 26, he became the youngest member of the Legislative Assembly in India. Notably, Jichkar had earned graduate degree from 20 universities. 

After receiving his MBBS and MD degrees from Nagpur, Shrikant Jichkar went on to earn degrees in public administration, sociology, economics, Sanskrit, history, English literature, philosophy, political science, and ancient Indian history, culture, and archaeology. He also earned degrees in a master’s degree in international law, a master’s degree in business administration, a doctor of business management, a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and doctor of literature in Sanskrit. Shrikant Jichkar was a very bright student and he was awared multiple gold medals for his brilliant academic performances.

Reports state that between 1973 and 1990, Shrikant Jichkar took part in 42 university examinations. He took these exams every summer and winter. Shrikant Jichkar passed the UPSC exam in 1978 and was appointed as a central civil servant in the Indian Police Service cadre. Jichkar resigned from the cadre in 1980 before retaking the UPSC exam to become an IAS officer. Just a few weeks after joining the IAS, Jichkar fought the election and won as MLA. He decided to quit his job as IAS officer and was named a minister.

On June 2, 2004, near Kondhali, approximately 50 kilometres from Nagpur, Shrikant Jichkar, then 49-year-old, lost his life in a car accident. Serving as the Minister of State in the Maharashtra government, Shrikanth was a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985 and the Maharashtra Legislative Council from 1986 to 1992. In 1992–1998 he served as a Rajya Sabha MP too. Shrikant Jichkar established Sàndipani School in Nagpur in 1992.
